All by myself., chapter 4
"The way you described Philly is sort of how I feel about this one place. It's called Christie Road. We all think of it as home, the one place we are accepted, and will be forever. The one place where I can just go to get high, without worrying about the cops. It's a place I go when I'm bored, and have got nothing better to do than get stoned," I said.
"Really? I want to see this place sometime," Jess said.
"Maybe you could come over with us next time we go," Charlie said.
"That would be fun," Jess replied.
Mike seemed eager to jump into Jess and mine conversation. So eager, he said something I never heard him say before. Everyone in our group would come to regret it. Especially Mike and I. God, why did I have to invite the beautiful girl to come walk with us.
"Hey, Jess, do you wanna come watch our band practice?"
"Yeah, what is the name?"
"We're called Sweet Children. Is that all right with you Bill?"
Billie just glanced at me. He had known about my crush for about two years. I looked down at the ground and nodded my head.
"Yeah, it's all right with me."
"Mike, what do you play in the band," Jess asked.
"Oh, I play bass."
"Really? When I lived in Philly, I was in a band and I played the bass."
"What song do you like playing the most on the bass," Mike asked.
"Should I stay or should I go," I whispered so quietly, only Charlie, who was directly to my left, could hear me."
"Oh, definitely London Calling," Jess asked.
"That's cool. That song is awesome. I fucking love the Cash."
Wow one minute he's all 'The Ramones rock.' And the next it's "I love the Clash!"
Mike and Jess just kept chattering away. I hate this fucking bitch. Stealing Mike away after knowing him for all of twenty minutes. I've known him for a long ass time and I don't think he even knows I'm a girl, let alone even LIKE me that way.
"I play the bass too," I said softly, just to see if Mike was paying attention to me at all. He wasn't. Suddenly, I ran forward. I couldn't take it anymore. I could hear Charlie yelling after me, but I didn't care. I reached the sidewalk outside of my house, and bounded up the walkway. As soon as I reached the door, my hand scrambled to open it.
"I'M HOME!" I yelled. Silence.
"Trè, where the fuck are you?" Still nothing. I walked quickly up the stairs. There was no light emitting from beneath Trè's door. Not a good sign. I opened his door a little, to see if he was in there. But, what I saw was not what I expected. Not what I expected at all. Oh, shit.
