There and Back Again, chapter 1

General Information: Ashley is moving back to her childhood home. Ash (NEVER called Ashley) had grown up the bay area in California. After moving away when she was seven, leaving all she knew behind, she is returning to her first and foremost memories in her old neighborhood.

***

Ash (her real name had been Ashley, but she has always been referred to as Ash) looked out the window, squinting at the bright sunlight that shone through. She looked at her surrounding as she remembered she fell asleep in the car. It was long trip back to California. She once lived there before, but moved away when she was seven. Ash was definitely looking forward to moving back. She had not been there in nine years. It had seemed like an eternity.

"Are you awake?" her mother called from the front seat of the car.
"Yeah..." she started to mumble, still tired.
"Good. We are going to be there in a little while," her father said.
She was awake now. She began to wonder who she would see from her past. She started to remember the day she left...

(flashback)

Billie Joe stood by the side of the sidewalk, watching the moving truck pull out of his next door neighbors driveway. Ollie and Andy stood beside him. Ash was in the car that was going to be leaving soon. She turned around in the backseat as they pulled out. She began to wave frantically to Billie Joe. Billie was also waving back. She slowly slumped down into the seat, knowing that she would always miss California, and that one day she would come back.

(end of flashback)

She slowly got out of the car, dragging a duffle bag behind her. She liked her new house a lot. However, she loved the fact it was ten minutes away from her old house.

She went up into her room to unpack. She grabbed a small wooden box from the bottom of the cardboard box, noticing it was the letters Billie Joe sent her from after she moved away. She began to smile as she flipped trough the letters. A frown came upon her face. She remembered reading the last letter he ever sent. It was about his father dying. She put the letters in her desk. The last thing she unpacked was a very important possession of hers. It was the Look for Love record Billie signed, "To Ash, my best friend. From, Billie Joe. Yeah, they had been best friends in the past.

She grabbed her skateboard after telling her mom she was going out. She planned to be back by dinner.

***

She starting to remember the memories that were worth keeping in mind as she skated down her old street. Everywhere she looked, she could recall a new story about her childhood.

Then, there it was, her old house. She was sort of depressed when she seen a blonde girl with a miniskirt and tank top walk out from her house. She stopped worrying about that after she directed her attention to Billie Joe's old house. Did he still there? She suddenly began to hear blasting music come from the garage. She stood here, doing a couple tricks on the skateboard, realizing that she definitely liked this music. Then she remembered.. She had school tomorrow!

*** (switched to her point of view)

I got to homeroom late, of course. I had no idea where I was going in that school. The only seat left was next to a boy, who looked familiar. He had reddish-brown hair and emerald green eyes. He started to talk to me.

"Are you new to the area?" he said.
"Not really, I used to live around here when I was little."
"Oh, that's cool. My name is--."
We got cut off in mid sentence by the teacher.
"Oh, hello. You are the new student I see," he turned to the boy talking to me.
"Do YOU have your assignment done?"
"Actually... Yes." he answered simply.

The bell rang. Everybody got up, and we started heading to the door. Some girl, I heard the other girls calling her Olivia, cut in front of me. She gave me a dirty look as she passed in front of me too. I noticed it was the girl that lived in my old house!

"Bitch..." I mumbled as I walked by her. She didn't hear me.

"Hey!" she said to the boy, "do you wanna go to the football game with me tomorrow night?"

"Nah, I told Mike I would walk up there with him." He started to pick up pace getting out of the room. I figured I would go to the football game tomorrow too.

***

I couldn't sleep. I thought about what happened today, and what might happen tomorrow. I suddenly put those thoughts on hold as I remembered the boy that I met in homeroom. A thought kept on coming to mind. Who was the boy? Could it have been Billie Joe? I stared at the ceiling of my room. I felt my eyes getting heavy as the time dragged on. I was just looking forward to tomorrow.
