Am I Dreaming?, chapter 2
"Um, it was good. Are you feeling okay?" Kyle said suspiciously. "Yeah, can't a girl find out how her boyfriend's day went?" Cali answered simply. "Uh, okay but you usually don't do that." "So? I am now." Cali said. Giving Kyle said "Okay, but look, I got you THE COOLEST birthday present ever!" "Ooh what is it?" Cali said but sounded like she was imitating a 6 year old. "You'll see. We're going out to get something to eat first." "Let me go change." Cali said walking to the closet.
Kyle walked out of the room so she could change. He went ahead and walked towards the door to wait for. No more than about five minutes later, Cali walked towards the door wearing a red, dressy t-shirt and obviously brand new skinny jeans. Without a word, Kyle and Cali walked out of the house. But while passing by, the two saw their other roomate, and Cali's best friend, none other than Ashley. "Hey, where are you two going?" she said walking past them to the front door. "Oh, hey Ash. Me and Kyle are just gonna go out to eat." "Yeah, we'll be back later." Kyle added to Cali's explanation. "Ok see you guys later." Ashley said as she walked in the door and shut it.
There wasn't a word said in the car to the restaurant. The two pulled up to Red Lobster, Cali's favorite place in town. "Oh, is this my birthday present?" Cali asked. "Nope, only part of it." They went inside and Kyle said to the hostess, "Reservations for Cali Sanders." "Yes right this way." the hostess said as she led them to a private party room decorated with Cali's favorite color, red. There was red balloons, red confetti, red everything. Kyle and Cali sat down to a candle lit table with two already prepared martinis.
"Wow, baby, I'm impressed!" Cali said. She couldn't believe all the trouble Kyle went through just to do this for her. Maybe, just maybe, aside from all the abuse, Kyle really deep down did love her.
"So, what do you want to eat? You can have anything you want." "I don't know." Cali said. "I'm still stuned." "Um, you could get lobster, maybe!" he said half-jokingly. "Hmm. I think I'll get the crab legs special." Cali said to the hostess that still was standing patiently by their table. "Okay, since it takes me so long to decide, I'll have the same." Kyle said as she walked out of the room with their order.
"So-" Kyle was interuppted by what Cali said, "So, what is my birthday present?" "Well I'll show you." he said as he seemed to nod his head to the waitress passing by. "Ma'm, we're ready."
Cali almost jumped out of her seat as what seemed to be the entire staff of the restaurant walked in singing 'Happy Birthday' at the top of their lungs. She could see that one of the waiters was holding a bowl of Cali's favorite ice cream and a waitress was holding a very small, neatly wrapped present.
After they were done singing, the staff yelled," HAPPY 29th BIRTHDAY, CALI!" The waiter and waitress laid down their items and stood back. Cali picked up the present first and looked at it. "Well, open it." Kyle said urging her.
Cali unwrapped the present and opened the box. Then Cali gasped with surprise. One of Cali's wildest dreams had finally come true!
