The teenies from hell and the band that saved the day!, chapter 5
Samantha and Asha grinned to each other. Krissy nervously shifted in her seat. Billie was announcing to the crowd that they were going into round two, and the rules. This was followed by a roar of delight. The second round was playing a song that the separate bands had created themselves. This time, High Strung went first. Krissy spun her black hat backwards again, and picked up the guitar. When she was twelve, she went through a three month period where she tried to play guitar, but couldn't. Then one day she thought, "Fuck, I'm learning until I'm good." And she sat for three days straight teaching herself. Grabbing the microphone, she said as loud as possible,
"This is a song called "Keeping it real" that me and a friend of ours called Natalie helped us write. If you don't catch the lyrics, it's about just relaxing."
Racha opened up with a strange and new bass line that nobody but the band and the bands close friends and family had heard. But that was the only type of friends the band had, anyways. Close.
The universe is upside down,
It's shaking in defeat,
You're running trying to get things done,
You're always on your feet.
And here I am, laying face down
Here you are hurrying around,
Just K-keep It real!
Well its like that's all you feel,
K-k-keep it real!
Well it's all you think you know,
K-k-keep it real!
The song went on, the crowd soaked it in. They loved it. When it was over, they cheered loudly. Samantha and Asha and Demi ran onstage, grabbed the instruments and hastily announced their song as "Mystery woman".
They played for a while, and unfortunately, it sounded a bit too much like Haushinka in lyrics. But the tune was different, and so the crowd bought it. They cheered just as loudly as they had for High Strung.
"Well folks, this one's a tie!" Tre shouted at the crowd. The crowd cheered. "We're gonna take a break and get round three on the go."
Krissy and Samantha were insulting each other backstage, while Racha and Jesse played cards. Asha and Demi whipped up their sweat and talked to Adie and Sarah.
"Hey, Krissy, Samantha, can I talk to you for a second?" Billie Joe asked, tapping Krissy on the shoulder just as she finished calling Samantha a walking porno.
The two girls, fiery in rage, followed Billie Joe into a separate room.
"Why are you two so against each other?" Billie Joe asked.
"Well..." Samantha started. "I guess it was because of our parents."
"Yah." Krissy said. "And the fact that we hate each other because of this guy... "
"Wait, wait wait, what?" Billie Joe asked.
So it was explained. Krissy had been a freshman outcast, and Samantha had made her life a living hell by making her boyfriend and his friends terrorize her, because Krissy's mother, a nurse, had fired Samantha's mother for mixing pills. Samantha's boyfriend, against Samantha's word, had beaten the shit out of Krissy one day after school, and in return had gotten the shit beaten out of him right back. And ever since, they hated each other.
"Well, I guess that's it." Krissy said, finishing with an evil glare at Samantha.
"Look, you two have to stop this. Make a truce. Don't hate, but just don't love either. And whoever wins this, just brush it off. You're both good."
Krissy sighed and put her head in her hands.
"It isn't that easy."
"She's right. It isn't." Samantha agreed.
"I know it isn't easy. I never said it was. But you have to, or else we might have to call off the battle. It's getting out of hand. I know that it may sound weird coming from me, but we don't want anyone getting hurt."
Krissy again sighed. Samantha scratched a mosquito bite.
"Fine."
Krissy stuck out her hand nimbly and grimaced as Samantha stared at it.
"Yah. Whatever."
They shook on it, and left the room. They seemed to avoid each other the rest of the time. After a couple of drinks and the crowd was beginning to come back from their washroom/drink/food break, Tre ran in and cried,
"Hey, you guys ready to go on?" Everybody jumped up, but Krissy's cellphone rang.
"Oh, one sec, it's my dad! I have to take this call, one minute!" She ran off.
"What's her beef?" Mike asked.
"Her dad divorced her mom when Krissy was five. And it's kind of weird for her right now, because he's going for full custody, and never told her about it. She doesn't want to live with him though." Jesse told them. "So she takes every call he gives her, incase he says something about it."
"Oh." Billie said unevenly. "That sucks."
"Yah, it does!" A new voice said in the conversation. Krissy came back into the room. "I have to call my dad back, so let's do this."
"Okay... " Racha said. "Let's do this."
