Crazy About You!, chapter 14
Touring with Tre came to an end all too soon. Eventually the Fruitloop jokes died down, but all week we kept finding bits of fruitloops on our tour bus bed. Tre still had to tour a little while longer so it was a depressing good bye at the airport.
"Damn, so did you get your dirty on?" Maggie asks me when I return to work.
"It's none of your business what Tre and I do in the privacy of our hotel room, or back room of the bus or-"
"Jeez, you tainted every surface around you didn't you?"
"Not really." I say shrugging, "Just hotels, back rooms and one rental car. Well actually we only made out in the rental car so it isn't necessarily tainted."
"Yeah whatever, I didn't want location details." She mutters. "Oh by the way Jelly and Robbie tragically broke up, so I shifted some stuff on the schedules around so they don't have the same shifts."
"Oh okay, why'd they break up?"
"Apparently Jelly needs her space." Maggie says absent-mindedly.
"How's he taking it?"
"Worst case of broken heart I've seen in a long time."
"Oh god, he always falls hard." I mumble as I organize the menus.
Robbie walks into the restaurant looking like shit, he hadn't shaved, his hair was messed up, heck I was lucky he was dressed.
"Uhh Robbie, I think you should work in the kitchen today." I say quickly.
"Oh okay." He says pathetically, "How was your trip?"
"It was good." I say not wanting to depress him even more.
"Alright." He grumbles as he heads to the kitchen.
Robbie's moping continues for a good week, towards the end of his break one day, Robbie is no where to be found. I search throughout the restaurant and finally decide to look in the storage closet. I see him sitting there, weeping, it was pathetic.
"Oh Robbie." I say as I sit next to him, "You're always so bad at break-ups."
"This time is different, I really, really loved her." He says wiping his eyes, "You know? I mean she's the first girl I could see myself spending the rest of my life with, you know propose to her after college, get married and all that cheesy stuff." He was really serious, and I felt sorry for him. "Maybe it'll be best if I go back to Austin."
"No, I won't let you!" I say angrily.
"What?" he says in disbelief, "It would be one less thing for you to worry about."
"No, because I know if you go back home, you're going to be miserable."
"I'm already miserable."
"Well at least be miserable here, where you actually have a future that's more than what you'd have back home." I say raising my voice slightly, "at least finish your college."
"Fine, I'll finish this semester." He mutters. "I should get back to work now."
After Robbie's shift, Jelly's shift starts. I take her aside when everything is under control.
"I'm sorry if this whole thing is being unprofessional." She says before I can say anything.
"What?" I say in slight disbelief at her maturity, "Since when has this restaurant been truly professional?"
"Uhh."
"Can I know your side of the story?"
"Well, we decided to go clubbing with a whole bunch of our friends the other night and we were having a good time, a great time actually. Then I ran into an old boyfriend from high school, so naturally we started catching up on old times. Robbie being the brute he is thought we were getting our flirt on and getting all jealous and conceded."
"Do you want to hear Robbie's side?"
"No, because he'll probably just say I'm a two timing skank."
"How can you even say that?! He never even brought that up, nothing, not even about the other guy." I say angrily, "Do you want to know what he said?! He said you were the first girl he could ever see himself spending the rest of his life with! He was saying how he felt like just popping the question; he said he wanted to do the whole cheesy marriage thing! He's never, ever talked like that before!" she stares at me for a moment of two dumbfounded.
"H-he said that?"
"Yes! He's crazy about you."
"I really fucked things up didn't I?"
"No, just talk to him, work things out." I say calmly.
"I really do love him." tears build up in her eyes. "I just don't want him over-bearing."
"Keep in mind you guys were at a club, he probably had a bit to drink."
"OH man, Linds, what am I going to do?"
"After your shift, go to the apartment and talk to him." she nods then walks off.
That evening I'm the last to leave the restaurant so I have to close up. I remember Tre was supposed to return this morning. I pull out my cell phone and call him up.
"Hello darling." He says cheesily, "What's on your mind."
"Hey babe, you busy this evening."
"Yup, I promised Haagen-Dazs I'd spend the evening with him."
"Awe." I say laughing. "But I can't go back to my apartment."
"Why not?"
"Robbie and Jelly broke up and now they're making up." I say disturbed.
"Ohhh. Hold on let me ask Haagen-Dazs if he doesn't mind a guest." Tre says followed by a silence, "He said the more the merrier, so come on over."
"Great, I'll see you in a bit."
I drive down to Tre's house and make my way up to the house. I rang the doorbell and wait patiently for him to open the door. Tre finally opens the door with a little boy squirming in his arms.
"Hey, come in." he says stepping aside. "Linds, this is my son Frankito."
"Hey there." I say softly.
"Hi." He says as buries his face in Tre's shoulder shyly.
"Just let me put him to bed and then-"
"Nooo, five more minutes." Frankito pleads.
"It's already half an hour past your bed time and I don't want you mom ax murdering me." Tre says as he disappears down a hallway. I take off my shoes and place my purse on the floor next to them and slowly wander around the house.
"Hey!" Tre says startling me.
"Way to give me a heart attack."
"You look pretty healthy." He says leading me into the living room.
"So I'm taking it's your weekend with Frankito?" I say as we sit on the sofa. Tre looks suddenly uneasy. "Tre?"
"I have to tell you something." He says scratching the back of his neck, "My ex-wife and I still live in the same house."
"What?!" I say in disbelief, "Am I the other woman or something?"
"No, no, no."
"Well what kind of sick couple are you?"
"We're divorced, we have two separate bedrooms. Two separate love lives, we decided to stay in the same house so Frankito could grow up right. Me being on tour, or always in studio is already hectic enough."
"Well, you're not going to wake up one evening and decide to get back together of have a booty call or something?"
"What happened between us is too..... well let's just say I can never sleep with her again after what happened." I nod.
"Well where is she tonight?"
"She went out with some friends." He says casually, "I can't be the only one who parties."
"What about Frankito and you bringing home women who are not his mom, and well your ex with other men."
"Well you're the first woman I've brought home, I've only been divorced about a year. And well Claudia has her boyfriend, but Frankito doesn't seem to mind." Tre stops for a moment, "we agreed that if one of us decided to get remarried or something then one of us would move out."
"We have company." I say calmly.
"What?" Tre asks confused, I point.
"Dad, can I have a glass of water?" Frankito asks innocently.
"Aren't you supposed to be in bed buddy?" he asks getting up none the less.
"Yeah but I got thirsty."
"Is that true or are you looking for any excuse to stay up." They head towards the kitchen.
"I really am thirsty."
Tre returns to the living room a few minutes later with two pints of ice cream and spoons.
"As promised, I present Haagen-Dazs." He says proudly as he hands me one. "So would you like to watch a movie?"
"Sure." I say picking up a DVD box that was laying on the coffee table. "Sponge Bob?"
"Ha-ha, that's Frankito's. But we can watch that if you want."
"Nah."
"Well, let's see," Tre walks up to a shelf full of movies, "Monty Python, Adam Sandler, cartoons, X-rated." I can't help but burst out laughing. "Oh, you like the dirty?"
"Monty Python sounds fine."
"Which one? Holy Grail, Life of Brian, Meaning of Life or the series?"
"Holy Grail." I say finally. Tre selects the box and puts it on.
"You sure?" he picks up his pint and sits next to me. "You don't have to be ashamed if you want to watch the X-rated stuff."
"Perv." I snicker.
"Something has to get me through the lonely nights." He taunts.
"Well tonight isn't a lonely night, so we're watching Monty Python." I say as I pop the lid of my ice cream.
We watch the movie nuzzled in one corner of the couch, practically attached at the hip. Midway through the movie I take some of his ice cream.
"Hey." He says childishly.
"I was just wondering what it tasted like." I say innocently.
"Why didn't you ask?" he put his lips on mine and pushes his tongue past my lips. "Now wasn't that better?"
"It's warm." I say shrugging as I go back to watching the movie.
"You're being a tease, do you know that?"
"Nah, I'm just messing with you." I say as I place my lips against his. I fumble to put my pint down on the coffee table while I try to keep my lips intact with Tre's. I feel his hand falling upon the small of my back. Then it hits me, what if Frankito wakes up again. I part lips with Tre and rest my head on his chest.
"What's wrong?"
"Just worried Frankito will wake up again."
"He won't." Tre says kissing the top of me head.
"Still." I mumble as I cuddle closer to him to make up for the lack of 'action.'
"Damn, so did you get your dirty on?" Maggie asks me when I return to work.
