Crazy About You!, chapter 16
After Tre being on tour for what seemed like forever, he calls me up to say he got back.
"Can you come over?"
"Hmm I don't know, my schedule is busy. You realize juggling seven boyfriends isn't easy."
"Awe, but aren't I your favorite?"
"Fine I'll dump Curtis and Fred so I can have more time with you."
"You're a sweetie."
"Oh I know." I say laughing, "Listen, I get off work in twenty minutes, so I'll see you then."
"Great, because I really want you to meet someone."
"Oh okay, who?"
"Well I can't tell you."
"Fine, I'll see you and the mystery person later."
"Okay bye."
"Bye."
"Oh Linds."
"Yeah." I say cautiously.
"You were joking about the whole seven boyfriend thing, right?"
"Yeah, including you, I only have three."
"Alright, so Curt and Fred are out of the picture right?" he says laughing.
"Yup."
"That's what I wanted to hear." He chuckles, "Well I'll see you later."
"Yeah see ya." I hang up the phone and go back to tending to the costumers.
"Tsk, tsk. Personal calls during business hours." Robbie says sneaking up behind me.
"And you snogging off with Anjelica is perfectly acceptable?"
"Well, no but. I have tables to clear." He says walking away. I see Maggie strolling into the restaurant with some tall Hispanic looking guy, hand in hand. She kisses him goodbye then he reluctantly leaves.
"Oh what was that all about?" I tease as I put away a few menus. "Did Maggie find a-what did you call it? Snugglekins?"
"Shut up."
"Oh so calling me and Tre snugglekins is fine but."
"His name is Christopher, okay?"
"Oh like the sound of that, is he Cuban?"
"His family is from Equador."
"That's hot." I tease as she slaps my arm playfully. "How long have you been going out?"
"Couple of months."
"And you've kept it hidden for that long?"
"Yeah, because I keep my business and social life separate."
"Since when?"
"Since I didn't want to jinx it with this guy."
"Why? Is he big in the pants?" she snorts with laughter. "He is, isn't he?"
"Now that is none of your business." She says cracking up.
"Well I should get going."
"Where?"
"Tre's, apparently he wants me to meet someone."
"If it's Bowie, I'll flip."
"Why Bowie?"
"Dunno, just heard one of his songs on the radio." Maggie shrugs.
"Jeebus, you're random today."
"Being on tour like that, he must've come across Bowie at one time."
"Jesus Maggie, I don't know." I say laughing.
"Well get going, you don't want to keep him waiting." She teases. I grab my jacket and purse and head out the door to my car.
The drive to Tre's seems to take forever; I mean who could he possibly want to introduce me to? I pull into his driveway and step out of my car and up to the front door.
"Hey, you're here quicker than I thought." He says as he kisses my lips gently.
"So who's this mystery person." He takes my hand and leads me deeper into the house, to the living room where Frankito and a little girl are sitting.
"Linds, I'd like you to meet Ramona, my daughter."
"Nice to meet you." I say crouching to the girl's level, dear god she was the spitting image of Tre.
"Hi." She says shyly. She waves for me to go closer. I do and she cups her hands over my ear to whisper something, "My dad really likes you a lot." I smile.
"Really." She nods furiously.
"What did she say?" Tre asks glancing between us.
"Well I can't tell you that." I say as she laughs into her hands.
"Oh I get it now, girl talk."
"Yup." Ramona says in a teasing tone.
"Were you talking about me."
"I can't tell you that Dad."
"Hey Frankito." I say turning to the little boy.
"Hi." He says smiling shyly.
"How you doing?"
"Okay, I'm watching Sponge Bob." He says still a little shy.
"My dad says your were a drummer too." Ramona pipes up.
"Yeah, I was in a band called Paper Trail, same name as my restaurant."
"Can you still play?"
"It's been a while."
"Come on." She says taking my hand and leading me across the house. Tre follows behind laughing. We head down into the basement where a Tre's drums are set up. I sheepishly take my seat at the drums.
"You'll need drumsticks." Tre snickers as he takes a couple off a shelf and hands them to me. I start playing a simple drum roll and I still manage to mess up. "Is that all? No wonder your band never made it."
"Hey." I scold, "It's been a while since I've played." Ramona takes another set of drumsticks and starts pounding rhythmically on the bass and tom drums. "You're really good."
"She's going to take the Cool drummer throne one day." Tre says proudly.
"Nope, I'm going to come up with my own stage name, Cool is too cocky for me." Tre glares at her pretending to be hurt. I fiddle a bit with the drums when it all comes back to me. I start playing one of my ex-band's songs, one with a lot of drum solos.
"Now that's what I'm talking about!" Tre exclaims happily.
"Yeah see, you're pretty good." Ramona squeals. "How come your band didn't continue?"
"I don't know, we all just went our separate ways." I say thinking back, "I miss playing."
"Then play." Ramona insists.
"Can you come over?"
