Tales From Another Broken Home, chapter 10
Adi's POV
I am actually up before Billie? I do not think that has ever happened. I checked the clock, five sixteen. Damn, that is early. I heard footsteps outside my bedroom door so I got out of bed quietly and walked outside to find Joey pacing.
"Well, good morning, Joey. I never thought I would see a boy your age awake at this ungodly hour on a Saturday morning."
"Oh, sorry Adiana. Did I wake you up?"
"No, Joey. Is something wrong?"
"Uhh... I kind of wanted to ask you something... well, two things."
"Okay, shoot."
"I wasn't really sleeping last night and I heard you and Dad. Are you really pregnant?"
"Well, we were gonna tell you and Jake this morning, but yes."
"Oh, cool I hope it's a girl. I've always wanted a sister."
"I hope so too. I think another girl in the house would be nice."
"Yeah. Ummm the other thing, I kind of wanna speak to Dad alone first."
"Sure, do you want me to wake him now?"
"No, let him sleep. I am kind of hungry though."
"Sure, me too. I'll go make us some breakfast."
"You're actually gonna cook? Like for me?"
"Yeah. Why, you don't want me to?"
"No, its just Mom never cooks for us."
"Well, that's strange. My mother always said that a home cooked meal is good for the soul."
I patted Joey on the head and we walked down the stairs to the kitchen and examined the contents of the fridge.
"Wow, Billie and I should really shop for groceries today. It amazes me how he never has enough food. Oh, here are some eggs. You want an omelette?"
"Sure, sounds great."
Joey's POV
I cannot believe how nice she is. Life would be so great if Jake and I could just stay here. I wish Dad would wake up soon. I am sure I could tell Adi, but I do not know her that well. I was lost in though for a while and I did not even notice Adi place a plate of omelettes and a glass of orange juice in front of me.
"Joey, are you sure there's nothing wrong?" she asked.
"No, I'm fine. There's some stuff that I need to talk about with Dad but other than that I'm fine."
"Okay. Well, I'm gonna go wake up Jakey, alright?"
Adi ruffled my hair and walked upstairs. I started to scarf down the food. Adi is an awesome cook. A few minutes later, Dad came downstairs in his boxers and sat next to me by the bar. He wiped the sleep from his eyes.
"What's up Joe? Why you up so early?"
"I've been thinking about some stuff."
"Ya wanna talk?"
"Yeah, Dad. Mom's going crazy."
"What? What are you talking about Joey?"
"Ever since the divorce she's been bringing home these random guys. It's like every night, a new man. It's just not good for Jakob and certainly not good for me. I want you and Adi to be our parents, not just every other month but permanently. Can you take full custody?"
"Whoa, Joseph. That's a lot man."
"Daddy, please. I can't stand living with Mom. I see you and Adi and you guys are perfect. She cares for us in some ways Mom doesn't and I haven't even known her twenty-four hours yet. I mean, you guys are already gonna have a kid."
"Wait, wait, wait. You know Adi's pregnant?"
"Yeah. I wasn't actually sleeping last night. I heard you guys yelling about it."
"Oh. Joey, you know how long the custody battle would take, they almost never grant full custody to the father. What if Adrienne never let me see you guys again?"
"Dad, don't worry about it. Mom probably wouldn't fight it. She can't take care of us by herself, we're like a burden for her."
"Joey, you're too smart for your age."
"Will ya consider it, Dad?"
"I'll have to talk to Adi about it."
"Thank you."
I gave Dad a big hug as Adi came downstairs carrying a passed out Jakob.
Adi's POV
After my failed attempts at waking up Jakob, I carried him downstairs. Joey was hugging Billie. Joey grabbed his plate and threw it in the dishwasher, then ran past me to the playroom. Boys. I propped up Jake's head in one of the chairs and sat on Billie's lap.
"Good morning babe," Billie sad as he kissed my cheek.
"Morning. You decided yet?"
"Decided what?"
"The date we are going to get married."
"I thought that you were."
"Babe, I'm ready. I'm waiting for you."
Billie kissed my neck and whispered, "I'll marry you right now."
"Seriously?"
"We got everyone we need, huh?"
"Yeah, except for a priest."
"Fuck it, let's have it today."
He jumped out of his seat and ran into the office. He is really serious. Oh, I almost forgot about Jakob. I looked over at him, slumped over the table with a bit of drool coming out of his mouth. Oh Lord. I ran over and gave him a plate of eggs.
"Jakob, baby, time for breakfast."
"Uhh... five more minutes," he said drowsily.
"You're drooling over your eggs."
"Fine... yeah, yeah... okay, I'm up."
He sat up and started to eat his food. Joseph may look like Billie but Jakob has his personality. I decided to go upstairs and take a shower, especially if I am getting married today.
Jakob's POV
Man, I am so tired. Sleepy, sleepy, sleepy. This is real good. I never really liked eggs but Adi made them taste good. I finished eating and walked into the playroom. Joey was sitting in front of the television playing Xbox 360.
"Sup, Jake?"
"Hey, Joey. Why are you guys so perky? It's like six in the morning."
"Well, a lots of stuff happened last night."
"Okay, and I should care why?"
"Dude, you like Adi?"
"Yeah, she's cool. I thought she'd be a bitch like Mom said but she isn't."
"Yeah, I know. Are you happy with Mom right now? I'm not."
"Oh, I know. She's been acting all sleazy."
"I kind of asked Dad if we could stay here."
"Dude, we're here right now."
"I know jackass. I meant permanently."
"Like, not live with Mom half the time?"
"Yeah, are you cool with it?"
"Uh-huh. It will be fun. Better here anyway."
"Alright, cause Dad said he's got to talk to Adi about it but she's got to say yes."
Billie's POV
I was on the phone with the planer and she was bitching me out and saying that it was impossible to have a wedding in a day.
"What about Vegas? You can have a wedding there within fifteen minutes."
"Mr. Armstrong, I highly doubt Ms. Monroe would appreciate that. How could you even consider getting married in a rat trap like that?"
"From what I here, celebrities are married there all the time."
"That's different. They were in a drunken stupor and Adiana is the love of your life."
"Okay, you do have a point there, Naomi."
"Thank you."
"Now when is the soonest we can do this thing?"
"About a week."
"A week? For fuck's sake, Naomi."
"You waited what, twenty two years? You can wait seven more days."
"Fine, one week."
I hung up the phone and rested my head on the desk. This is ridiculous. I have to wait seven more days? So much stuff has happened this morning, Joey and Jake's issue with Adrienne, the wedding. I need a fucking drink.
