Sweet Child of Mine, chapter 13
-3 years later-
"Happy Birthday Amy!" we all yell as she and Markey enter the dining room. She's nineteen today and came home from college to celebrate.
"Jeez, you said it would be a small dinner," she says happily as she walks up to me and gives me a hug.
"We lied," I say referring to me and Adie.
"Happy Birthday," Adie says as she too hugs her step-daughter.
"BIRTHDAY GIRL!" Tre yells as he grabs Amy in a tight hug from behind.
"Tre, you're choking me," she says laughing. "Mikey!"
"Hey kid," he says as he wraps his arm around her. "Long time no see, so how's the band going?"
"Great, we just recorded a demo."
"That's awesome."
"Yeah, where's Britt?"
"She should be coming later," Mike says rolling his neck. "Stop talking to us old farts, go and hang out with your friends."
"Speak for yourself; I'm not an old fart!" Tre exclaims as Amanda walks away to join Markey and her friends.
"Hey haven't Markey and Amy been going out for like three years, that's pretty long for a high school relationship," Adie says thoughtfully.
"Well, I sort of met you when I was seventeen," I mumble as I wrap my arms around her.
"Oh, well if you want to get technical they probably went all the way by now," Tre says solely to disturb me.
"I rather not think about that," I say uncomfortably.
"How old is Ramona now-a-days, fourteen, almost fifteen," Adie says smugly, "How old were you when you traded in your V-card Tre?" Tre turns an interesting shade of red.
"I think I need to make a little trip to New York to neuter her boyfriend before she turns fifteen," Tre says nervously as he sips his beer.
"Can we please change the subject?" I pester as I watch Markey wrap his arms around my daughter.
"Sure," Mike says evilly, "But consider this, Markey and Amanda go to the same college and do you know where Ramona is at this minute?"
"How dare you!" Tre gasps. "She's a good girl."
"In her daddy's eyes," Mike teases.
"Stella is in middle school this year, Mikey; she's going to start liking the boys," I say hence ending this conversation.
The party continues for a few more hours before Amy walks up to me.
"Hey Dad, we were thinking of going to the Firefly."
"Yeah, go ahead have fun," I say happily.
"Can we go too?" Joey asks eagerly, he had his first girlfriend, Kate, with him.
"Only if it's okay with your sister and Kate's parents."
"S'okay with me," Amy says as she goes back to hang out with her friends. Kate pulls out her cell phone and calls her parents.
All of them left within minutes leaving, us "old farts" with Jakob, Stella and Frankito.
"Hey kids what are you watching?" I ask as we all join them on the sofa.
"Superman," Jakob says a little ticked off. "It really sucks."
"Hey, don't insult anyone who wears their underwear over their pants," Tre says pretending to be hurt.
"No Dad, this really does suck, it's like a million years old," Frankito says like the little smart ass he is.
"So are you saying I'm a million years old?" Mike says turning his head.
"The movie came out around when we were born you know."
"Yes you're old, very old," Frankito says evilly.
"You're not that old," Estella says thoughtfully.
"Hey Mikey, you wanna swap kids," Tre says as he shoves Frankito playfully.
"Nope, she's a keeper," Mike says as he hugs Estelle.
"I agree," Brittney says as she pokes at Tre.
"Where do you stand boy-o?" I ask as I ruffle Jakob's hair.
"Umm."
"You're taking awfully long," Adie says laughing.
"You're young and beautiful people," he says rolling his eyes.
"Perfect answer," Adie says happily.
We watch the movie with many interruptions from, as Brittney says, "The peanut gallery."
As the movie comes to an end Amy, Markey, Joey and Kate burst through the door laughing.
"Hey you guys, guess what!" Amy says going through the moon with happiness.
"You got a pet monkey!" Tre exclaims as he jumps up off the couch.
"You're really two midgets one standing on the other's shoulders?"
Frankito suggests as the rest of us burst out laughing.
"We're engaged!" Amy says putting her hand forward to reveal a silver ring, no stone though.
"You're what?" I say in disbelief, "You're a bit young to be getting married."
"No, no, we're only getting married once we finish college," Markey says nervously.
"They're just joking around," Brittney says as she looks over a ring.
"This isn't an engagement ring."
"Yeah it is, I'm not one for wearing diamonds," Amy says rolling her eyes.
"It's true, Markey proposed as we left the Firefly," Kate pipes up. "So romantic."
"Welcome to the family," Adie says as she goes to hug Markey.
"Dad, aren't you going to say something?" Amy asks looking at me.
"Yeah Dad," Joey says as he pokes my forehead.
"Congratulations," I say as I stand up and smile.
