Billie Joe arrived at school on time the next day and looked around the room for Gill but his face fell when he realised she wasn't there yet. He took his usual seat at the back and started to do a jig-saw that was lying out near-by, just for something to do to pass the time as all the other kids began to arrive.
Every time someone came in Billie Joe's head would rise, his heart racing, hoping it would be her. After a while he began to get scared that she wasn't coming but just as he was readying himself for another, lonely day by himself a friendly voice said hi and Gill sat down next to him on the floor. A huge smile spread across Billie Joe's face and relief that she was there filled his body.
"Great news" Gill told him.
"Yeah, what's that?" he inquired.
"Well, we're having a barbeque on Friday to get to knew people round here and my dad said I could invite my friends, so do you wanna come?"
"Of course I do, sounds great!" Billie Joe replied eagerly, so happy that Gill thought of him as a friend.

Billie Joe was so excited as his dad drove him to Gill's house, he couldn't stop talking about her all the way there, telling his dad everything she said and did. Andy smiled as he listened to his son. It made him happy to see his son this happy. It was an important stage in Billie Joe's little life - his first crush.
Finally they arrived and when they rang the doorbell it was a teenage boy that answered.
"Hello, I'm Andy Armstrong and this is my son Billie Joe" Andy informed him.
"Ah, this is the famous Billie Joe" The boy replied. " Gill's told us all about you, come in, everyone's in the garden."
Billie Joe darted round to the back and spotted Gill immediately, running over to her
"Billie" she cried, hugging him tight. He smiled as he hugged her back. She took him by that hand and said, " Come on, I want you to meet some people." She pulled Billie Joe round the garden where people were laughing and joking with one another, all having a good time and enjoying all the food and drink that were on offer. The boy who had answered the door was now playing the guitar to a small group of people, mainly girls who were crowded round him.
"That's my brother Jez." Billie Joe stopped and listened to the sounds made by the guitar and was instantly drawn by it. He knew right there and then that he wanted to be able to do that too.
"Cool, huh." Gill said, noticing that Billie Joe was completely engrossed in her brother's mini performance. They met a few more people before they made their way to where Gill's dad stood talking to a man called Ryan Dirnt, who spoke to them.
"You know I have a son you're age but he's not feeling well tonight, maybe you'll get to meet him some time.
"Yeah sure" Gill said, happy at the prospect of having another friend to play with but for tonight all she wanted to do was have fun with Billie Joe and so they headed off to play on the trampoline.
