It was Friday night and Mike was coming over to Billie Joe's for dinner but unfortunately Gill already had plans and would not be joining them. Billie Joe really wanted to make up with her and for him, Gill and Mike to be friends but there was always next week for that.
The door bell rang and Billie jumped up excitedly, rushing to greet Mike.
"Dinner will be ready in a few minutes why don't you boys go and play till its served," Ollie said to the two friends who ran off immediately to do just that.
On the other side of town a birthday party was just getting underway and Gill was enjoying herself immensely, she and Erin were getting on great and she had met new people who would soon become new friends. She was still sad that things between her and Billie Joe still weren't patched up but if he was silly enough to let their stupid argument get in the way of their friendship then maybe it wasn't worth pursuing, she had Erin and new people she could call friends, who were there for her and made this town feel like home.
Meanwhile, back at Billie Joe's the two boys had finished their dinner and Andy had just returned home. He called Billie into the living room as there was a treat in store for him. Billie entered the room, closely followed by Mike and his eyes lit up when he saw what was waiting for him.
"Well, you've been doing really well with you're guitar lessons so I thought you deserved one of your own."
Billie Joe looked at the guitar that was leaning against the sofa, it was a magnificent blue colour and Billie loved it. He ran towards his father and hugged him tight. It was the best gift he had ever gotten in his life and he loved it. Billie rushed over to it and stroked it gently as though it was a pet dog.
"I'm going to name it blue," he announced.
A few hours later Billie Joe and blue had become well accustomed to on e another and Mike had even learned some chords. Soon it was time for him to leave and by the time Mike's dad Ryan had arrived to take him home Mike had been inspired to follow in his new best friend's footsteps and asked his dad to teach him the guitar.
"Sure, as long as your patient and stick at it," His dad replied.
"I will, I promise."
Mike smiled, he was really happy and was having so much fun. He had been so scared about starting school but now he actually looked forward to it. He had Billie Joe as his best friend and now guitar lessons to look forward to as well. Life was good and there seemed like there was nothing out there that would be able to spoil that. The world seems like a perfect place when you're a kid.
