When Daddy's A Rockstar..., chapter 1

My sister once asked me if I thought our father was high when he named us. She asked this because her whole life (or as long as I can remember) she has hated her name. Estelle Desiree. I happen to think it was a pretty normal name. I've heard a lot worse. I, on the other hand, am one of the few people who happen to like their name. Rebel Jayde. I thought it was alright. I mean what other name would you expect to be given with Mike Dirnt for a father? Yes that's right, Mike Dirnt as in Mike Dirnt the bass player in Green Day. You may think being a rockstar's daughter is great. Well it is sometimes, but just like having any other parent it has its ups and downs. Highs and lows com with any family.
Speaking of families let me fill you in on my current situation. My full name is Rebel Jayde Pritchard and I was graced unto my parents and the world on the 14th of November 1998. That would make me 14 turning 15 later in the year. My older sister Stella has just turned 16. As mentioned my father is Mike and my mother would be Ana. My sister and I are "shared" between our mother and father. Most of the times we are with mum as the band seem to take up a lot of Dad's time. But it's great when we get to spend time with him. Currently he's touring in Europe for the next three months, so when he comes back from there we get to spend two weeks at Dad's place before he heads off again.

Right now I'm lying in bed waiting for the next three months to fly by. Please God let them pass quickly. You see my Aunty and uncle are renovating their house and dear old mum was kind enough to offer them and their four children a place to stay during the renovations. My Nan also lives with us permanently. I love her to death but God she can get annoying. When she's nice and in a good mood she can be the most caring person in the world. Other times she is a right old hag. 'Betty the bitch' Stella and I once dubbed her. She's never liked Dad, never thought a punk rocker was good enough for her baby girl. That's what gets up Stella and I the most I think, hearing the way she bad mouths Dad like that. Although I must admit when she is criticising I seem to get the least of it, being the baby of the family and all.

So right now I have been forced out of my room and into share a double bed with the short, plump lady. Oh God please don't roll over Nan... Yep too late I'm squashed. Damn if I could only get free... there we go, and I'm out.
I walk to the kitchen to grab some water. I could make out a figure sitting at the table in the dark. I switch on the light and wince at the sudden contact of light in my eyes. I squint to see my company do the same thing.
"Nan squish you again Bub?" my sister asks rather scratchily from sleep.
"Yeah, I swear I cannot wait for our return to Dirnt Palace and my favourite bed"
"Don't worry it'll come soon enough," Stella encourages walking over to the sink to put her glass down.
"Well I'm off to bed", she yawns, "or should I say the floor... come to think of it I'll be pleased too to see our return to Dirnt palace." I laugh as she strolls back to her room, where her bed is being occupied at the moment by two seven year old twins by the mane of Lucy and Skye.
I look around the still kitchen, the ringing of silence filling my ears. I dread climbing back into the nest with Betty but I'm too tired now. Oh how I wish Aunty Deb and Uncle Mark weren't occupying my precious sleeping space at the moment. Even the spare room has been invaded by ten year old Justin and five year Luke. I glance at the digital clock, 2:34. Well its time I crawled back upstairs to the overly floral bedspread. I'm too tired to complain any more. As soon as my head hits the pillow I'm asleep.

I wake up the next morning and say a silent prayer that the house is quiet and I feel no presence next to me. I flatten myself like a pancake of my stomach and stretch only to be interrupted by a knock on the bedroom door.
"Come in," I mumble sleepily.
"Nan took the kids to the cinemas for the day so the house is quiet for a few hours," my sister plops down beside me.
I grumble an incomprehensible response.
"Sooo..." she continues, "You and I are going to make the most of it,"
"Watchamean?" I mumble.
"UP! Joey and Jakob are already on their way. It's a rainy day and there's no chance in hell I'm risking going to the movies and bumping into Betty the bitch and the four little Satans we call cousins, so I hired movies and the boys are going to join us."
That was all the convincing I needed. By the end of this little pep-talk I was already up and getting ready. I hadn't seen Jakob in AGES! Apart from Stella, he was my best friend.

And so at 11:00 Joey, Stella, Jakob and I were all settled and had just popped in our first movie. We laughed, ate some junk, laughed some more then ate some more. Before we knew it we had got through two movies and were halfway through the third when four bustling children and a worn out senior came rushing through the front door.
"God, those four are like wild creatures. They're crazy and full of life," my seventy-something grandmother commented. Stella and I just exchanged looks.
"Mum I told you not to give them sugar or they get a little out of hand," my Aunty Deb retaliated.
"A little out of hand." I mumbled.
Jakob seemed to catch this little comment of mine and began to giggle. This drew attention to the fact that there were indeed four teenagers sitting in the room, TRYING, to watch a movie. Stella sighed, gave up and walked over to pop out the DVD.
"Hey guys why don't we finish watching all these at our place, yeah?" Joey asked.
"Sure."
"Great," Stella and I sighed.
"Hey why don't we make a night of it?" Jakob asked.
Stella and I agreed willingly. Anything to get out of here while the kids were running around on a sugar high. Mum confirmed our little sleep over and we were off.
Great, one night out of that house, now only three more months and we'll be back at Dirnt Palace and if all goes well after that, the renos on Mark and Debs house will be finished and Stella and I can have our rooms back. I think what Stella and I wanted the most though, was to see our Dad again.
