A loss, Then A Gain. (A Billie Joe story), chapter 12
Victoria woke up the next morning, expecting Billie Joe to be next to her. But he wasn't.
"Billie Joe?" Victoria asked.
There was no answer.
"Billie!" said Victoria.
She searched the whole room, but she was all alone.
"Oh god!" said Victoria.
Victoria ran downstairs as fast as she could.
"Victoria!? Have you seen Billie!?" asked Mike.
"No! Have you?" she asked.
Mike and Tre shook their heads.
"We've been searching the whole house, and the whole neighborhood all morning." said Tre with a sigh.
"We thought he might have been in his room with you." said Mike.
"He wasn't." said Victoria, tears filling her light grey eyes.
"Should we call the cops?" asked Mike.
"No. Remember that time I got lost?" asked Tre.
"Ooooh. Right." said Mike.
Just then, Mike's cell phone rang.
"Hello?" he asked.
"PUT IT ON SPEAKER-PHONE SO THE OTHERS CAN HEAR!"
Mike put it on speaker-phone.
"OK! LISTEN! I HAVE ARMSTRONG, YOU WANT HIM? THEN LISTEN UP!"
"Actually, his name is Billie Joe." said Tre.
"ONE MORE WORD AND HE DIES!"
Tre put both of his hands over his mouth.
"ALRIGHT, DRIVE TO PARSON AVENUE, IN PORTLAND OREGON! I'LL CALL YOU AGAIN WHEN YOU ARE THERE!"
The mysterious caller hung up.
"Oh god! Billie Joe!" said Victoria, starting to cry.
Mike hugged her. Just a comforting hug, not anything else.
"We'll get him back. Vicky." he said.
"Then what are we waiting for!?" asked Tre, holding up his car keys.
Mike and Victoria smiled.
*An hour later*
Tre was driving, while Mike read him directions from Mapquest. He had brought his laptop along with him. Victoria was in the backseat, staring out the window. She missed Billie Joe so much, she was lonely without him.
"Billie..." she sighed.
Mike and Tre paid no attention.
Victoria started to hum "Redundant". Then she started to cry. Somehow, she kept seeing Billie in the clouds. She knew that her mind was playing tricks on her, but she didn't care.
"I love you Billie Joe, wherever you are..." she whispered.
She continued to cry as Tre drove on.
*An hour later*
Tre had to pee really bad, so they scoped at a rest area.
"Bathroom!" said Tre as he ran past them, holding himself.
Mike looked at Victoria. Tears were in her eyes.
"You ok Victoria?" he asked.
Victoria nodded.
"I just, I just really miss Billie Joe." she said.
"As soon as Tre gets back, we'll start driving again." said Mike.
*A few minutes later*
"Whoo... That feels better..." said Tre as he got in the car.
"I'll drive this time." said Mike.
"I call shotgun!" said Victoria, jumping in the passenger's seat.
Tre got in the backseat.
"Whee!" he said in his little-kid voice.
"Ooookay." said Mike.
"Let's get going." said Victoria.
Mike nodded and started the car, but it wouldn't start.
"Come on! Start you bastard!" said Mike.
But the car still wouldn't start.
"Shit!" said Victoria.
"How are we ever going to get to Portland?"
"I guess we'll have to walk." said Mike.
They got out of the car, and started walking.
"This must be the real Boulevard Of Broken Dreams." said Victoria, staring down the deserted highway.
*After several hours of walking*
It was starting to get dark.
"I can barely see where I'm going. Can we stop here?" asked Tre.
So they scoped, and sat at the side of the road.
"Are we gonna have to sleep here?" asked Tre.
"I guess so." said Mike.
"Well, I'm gonna go get some sticks and make a campfire. It's kinda cold out here." said Tre.
He got up, and went to get sticks.
"Tre must be pretty upset. He hasn't made a joke or said anything horny in over 4 hours." said Victoria.
Mike nodded.
"We're all upset about this." he said.
*20 minutes later*
Tre came back with a handful of sticks.
"Anyone got a match?" he asked.
Nobody had a match, so Tre had to rub two sticks together.
"If we only had a fucking match..." mumbled Tre as he rubbed the sticks together.
"Damn you! Light! Light!" he yelled.
Mike shook his head.
Victoria sighed. She looked up at the stars. There wasn't a cloud in the sky, giving them some light from the moon. Tears started filling her eyes. The twinkle of the stars, they reminded her of the twinkle in Billie Joe's eyes when he grinned. She sighed again and went back to watching Tre.
"You're sure you're okay?" Mike asked her.
Victoria nodded.
*Two hours later*
"LIGHT YOU MOTHER FUCKING STICKS! FUCKING LIGHT ALREADY!" Tre screamed.
Mike was still watching Tre, while Victoria was looking at the stars, again.
"Mother fuck!" yelled Tre.
He fell back, panting.
"Tre, we can use the stars. You need some rest." said Victoria.
"And the moon." said Mike.
Tre looked at his watch. His eyes widened.
"It's 2:30 in the morning. I should get some sleep." said Tre.
He found a place, and lied down. Mike and Victoria did the same thing. Mike and Tre fell asleep, but Victoria couldn't.
"Billie... Where are you?" she thought.
"Billie Joe?" Victoria asked.
There was no answer.
"Billie!" said Victoria.
