The reality of breaking up, chapter 1
Ever realised how time flies by? Billie certainly did.
Today was the day that Billie was going to announce Green Day's break up. He didn't want to do it. He knew how much his fans trusted him. He felt like he was betraying his fans but this is one thing he had to do. For his family's sake.
Adrienne had been in critical condition for about 2 weeks now after she was diagnosed with cancer. Billie didn't want to lose her and had decided it was best to give up his carear to spend time with her. Doctors didn't know how long she had left to survive, but Billie knew she wouldn't make over a year. He had to be with her untill the end.
Billie couldn't bare to think of how he would be parted from his wife, it just wouldn't cross his mind. He hated reality.
Billie hadn't told Adrienne he was leaving the band for her sake, he just told her they were on a break. The caring woman that she is, even as she's dying she wouldn't want Billie to give up everything for her. But he had to whether she liked it or not.
Music filled the air as Billie, Tre and Mike made their way onto the stage. Billie didn't want to do this. 16 years gone in a flash. He couldn't bare to let down his fans but he had to.
He stepped up to the microphone and just stared out into the crowd. He finally managed to find his voice to speak. 'Here goes' he thought, taking a deap breath.
"Erm, hi..." Billie let out. This wasn't like him 'erm, hi' how pathetic was that? he thought to himself. He couldn't do it, he had to do it, but he just couldn't find what to say to the crowd, knowing how disappointed they would be.
Mike noticed Billie struggling and walked over to him, gave him a reassuring pat on the back and nodded for Tre to come over and join them.
This made Billie feel slightly better, knowing he had the support of Mike and Tre.
Neither Mike or Tre wanted to break up either but both understood it was best for Billie to be by his wife as her life ended.
All three stood, their hands round eachothers shoulders whilst nervous and confused faces stared back at them.
Suddenly Mike grabbed the microphone and started to speak as he noticed they needed to speak soon and Billie wasn't making any intensions of doing so.
"Yo people, we know how much you have supported us these past 16 years. We never want to let you go but..." Mike trailed off, trying to hold back tears.
Already their were some gasps in the crowd as many knew what was going to come next. Others just waited with anticipation.
Tre noticed Mike struggling and took the microphone off of Mike.
"We're breaking up guys" He said simply. The other two just stared at him. They didn't know how he could just come out with it with no expression what so ever.
More gasps and murmers of shock filled the grounds. Billie bit his lip and closed his eyes thinking of the reason they were doing this. His wife.
After a while of Tre explaining to the crowd and more and more murmers of horror, the finally managed to start playing some songs, however with difficulty. Billie kept going out of tune, noth his voice and the guitar playing. Mike would play the wrong bass line and Tre would go out of beat.
They tried to keep it together, they really did. But the shock of this being their last show overwelmed them.
Billie decided to give up after a couple of songs. He sighed, took the guitar from around his neck and just placed it down on the stage. He hung his head and took a deep breath.
He didnt know what made him fo what came next but he did it anyway.
Billie threw his head back and just screamed into the night. Screwing up his eyes, just letting his feelings out to the crowd.
The crowd stood in stunned silence as Billie finally stopped shouting.
A few minutes silence went by making the atmosphere more uncomfortable.
This wasn't how Billie wanted their last show to be, he wanted to rock ass more than he had ever done before, but he just couldn't find the right feeling inside him to kick ass. He was failing, his life was flashing infront of him, he couldn't grab a hold of it and sooner or later his wife was going to be gone from his life.
Billie noticed a pushing and shoving towards the stage, he looked down as the person stood directly infront of the stage. It was a member of security, holding what looked like a letter. Billie reached down and took it in fear of what was inside.
He opened it up as if something was about to jump out at him.
He scanned his eyes across the page, feeling sick with fear and shock as he red further and further down the page.
Mike, Tre and the crowd were looking at him with concern.
It had happened. She was gone from his life before he could even say a goodbye.
He knew she was going to leave him, but doctors had said about a year. She couldn't leave him this soon. Not now, he needed her.
Billie dropped the letter and broke down on the stage, tears escaping form his eyes. Mike rushed over to him and their were a few screams of Billie's name form the crowd.
"She's gone Mike, she's finally gone.." Billie let out clinging onto Mike's grip.
