Oh My God, You Like Her? But I Thought You Were Enemies!, chapter 7
Kara ran off, not caring where she was going, but hoping somewhere quiet. She needed to think. Stopping at a bridge that overlooked a pond, she hoisted herself up onto the ledge and sat there thinking. If he liked her, why did he torture her? Was it really just his own proud self, trying to keep up an image? Maybe it was his girlfriend. What about his girlfriend? Was he really lying to her?
Kara shook her head and leaned back. Suddenly she sat up straight. Why did she care? Why was she taking the time to think this through? If he liked her, couldn't she just say "no"? Why was she even considering this?
Because she liked him.
Aha.
Kara squinted her eyes. "I don't like him though... I mean, it's totally obvious that he's my worst enemy.
Her thoughts were broken by a loud, obnoxious screech of tires on the bridge. Two people on bikes sped through, one bike was out of control. The person on it attempted to jump off of the bike, got stuck in the spokes, and landed with a crash.
Kara jumped off of her seat and ran to the person who had fallen, as the other person drove towards her.
"Hey, it's Kara!" Mike called from his bike. "Tre, are you alright?"
Tre, who was laying in a ditch, looked up at Kara, raising his eyebrows.
"Well, if Kara takes off her shirt, maybe... "
Kara frowned at him, but made her way down into the steep ditch. She helped Tre up, examined him, and let him climb up the hill. She grabbed one end of his bike, and he grabbed the other, and threw it onto the road.
Once they were all on the road, they started conversation.
"So what are you doing here?" Mike asked.
"Uh, homework. Thinking of ideas for English class... you know that... uh... story we have to do." She shrugged. "And what about you, where are you guys headed?"
"We're going to see Billie. He called us and told us he had urgent news." Mike sighed. "Wanna come with us?"
"Uh... " Kara stepped back.
"Unless your still mad at him, you know he didn't mean to... " Tre started.
"Uh, guys there's something I have to... "
"He really didn't want to hurt you... "
"Guys, I have to tell you... "
"He's really sorry!" Tre finished.
"SHUT IT!"
Mike jumped back, and Tre nearly fell over trying to hide behind Mike.
"Jesus Christ... " Tre muttered. "What?"
"I have to tell you guys something... " Kara said. "It's basically what Billie wants to tell you, and I have a feeling it is... so... "
Mike and Tre braced themselves.
"He kissed me."
"But I thought he had a girlfriend?" Mike said, stating the obvious.
"Yeah but, see he was fighting with Angie and then she said she would dump him and I told her not to, and slapped some sense into her, and she said okay, and then Billie said thanks and when I tried to walk away he kissed me!" Kara rambled on. She said the word "kissed" as if it were a disease.
"So are you gonna ask him out?" Tre asked, smirking at her.
"Oh fuck, hell no!" Kara cried. "He's the biggest asshole, jerkoff, lowlife, fuck head, loser, idiotic, numb-skulled, insane son of a bitch I've met in my ENTIRE life!"
"Yah well he likes you, yeh know." Mike said.
"He does not." Kara replied.
"Does too. The only reason he teases you and stuff is to keep up an image. If he makes himself look soft then people will assume he's weak and all that crap, that or he really is just big-headed." Tre explained.
"God damnit!" Kara cried. "I'm going home."
She started to walk home, and Tre and Mike got on their bike's and rode off to Billie's house.
___
Billie heard his door-bell ring, and he jumped up to get it. When he saw it was mike and Tre, he invited them in and got them some beer.
"You guys, the most amazing thing happened! I-"
"Kissed Kara, we know." Mike said, grinning.
"Wha-? How the hell did you guys know?"
"Kara told us." Tre answered, and Mike and Tre explained the scene at the bridge.
"The thing is, Bill, I think she might really like you. The way she acts, you can tell she actually cares that you "hate" her." Mike leaned back into the couch.
"Really?" Billie asked, like a five year old.
"Yes, really, so you'd better shape up and leave her alone." Tre said, wagging his finger at Billie, as if he was Billie's mother.
"Yah, I would if I were you." Mike said, glancing around.
Billie took in everything that was going on. He took a sip of his beer, and tapped his fingers on the side of the couch. His eyes closed momentarily, and after a while he opened them again.
"I can't. I have a reputation to keep! Kara's important, but... "
"Whatever man. You want an enemy... keep going the way your going. You want a girlfriend... " Mike insisted.
___
Angie sat on her bed, reading. She glanced at the clock. Her cell phone rang, and she picked it up hurriedly.
"Hey? It's Angie speaking." She said into the receiver.
"Uh, hey, Angie... it's Bill... I uh... gotta talk to you." He said. On the other side, he was twisting the phone wire between two fingers. "I uh... "
"Oh sweetie it's you! How are you doing, hunny?"
"Uh, fine I just... "
"I can't talk for long, but is their something you need to tell me, sweetheart?"
"I just want to tell you... "
"Oh, before you say anything, the most amazing thing happened today! Maggie called me and invited me to her party, and she said you can come too. She won't invite Kara though, I asked her too but she just doesn't agree. So do you wanna go, hun?"
"Well, the thing is... "
"Jen is going, and so is Krista. But Ally isn't, she has the flu. Oh, and all the guys on the football team are going, I'm soo excited!" Angie cried.
"But, Angie... I gotta tell you... "
"Yes?"
Billie sighed.
"I... nevermind... I have to go. Bye."
"Love you!"
"Love y... "
He didn't finish before Angie hung up.
___
"Uh, bill? I don't thing you got the message through." Tre stated the obvious.
"Gee, you think?" Billie Snapped. "Now it's gonna be even harder to... dump her for Kara."
___
Kara dug her hands into her mattress. She glared at the mirror.
"Okay, Kara." She told herself. "Are you gonna admit it yet?" She took a deep breath, ready to admit it to herself, to get a load of guilt off of her shoulders...
"You like Billie Joe!" She cried. Nobody was home. Once she said it she smiled. That was a lot off of her mind.
But now what?
Kara shook her head and leaned back. Suddenly she sat up straight. Why did she care? Why was she taking the time to think this through? If he liked her, couldn't she just say "no"? Why was she even considering this?
