Road Trip, chapter 3
"That was awesome." I said as we wandered out onto the street. It surprised me when I found that it was already dark. "We spent all day in there?" Billie glanced at his watch and shrugged.
"Yeah I guess. You said that it was awesome. Why are you getting all het up about it?"
"I'm not. What about Shona, Mike and Tre?" I asked worried. What if they thought we were missing? Billie put his arm casually round my shoulders.
"It'll be okay. Don't worry so much, Edie. You're with me! What could go wrong?" He droned. I giggled slightly.
"Can we at least call Shona's cell?" I asked as we walked.
"Sure. Find a phone first." I looked around. The street was dark and deserted. No streetlights; no phoneboxes; no nothing. I huffed and started walking quickly down the street. I needed a phonebox desperately. "Edie, whats the rush?" Asked Billie from some way behind me.
"I need a phone." I stated. He ran to catch me up.
"Okay, listen: We'll go to the HollyWood Walk first, okay?" He bargained. "There will be a phone there. You can get some snaps of the goddamn walk while I call Shona. Deal?" He asked holding his hand out. I shook.
"Deal." Grinning, he gripped my hand and pulled me after him.
"This way." I followed him, tired of his upbeat approach to everything.
So we got to the walk. I look at the stars on the sidewalk, finding all of my favorite celebrities while Billie called Shona's cell.
"Hey, Sho! Yeah we're fine. Edie's just being a tourist and I'm a calling you. What hotel are you at?" Dragging my attention away from the sidewalk I looked at Billie. He was leaning against the glass, casually, the phone held between his ear and his shoulder as he examined his nails. He yawned while he listened, his crooked front teeth gleaming in the dim light of the streetlights. Despite having seen him naked that morning I only just realized how skinny he was. His stained and torn "I'm With Stupidà " T-shirt was loose against his stomach and his drainpipes hung loosly on his waist. Even the belt holding them up seemed too loose. "Hey, Edie! What's wrong?" Called Billie from the phonebox. I shook my head, breaking my gaze.
"Nothing, Billie. Just tired."
"Okay, scratch that then, Shona. Edie's tired so we're gonna skip the club and go straight to the hotel. Okay catch ya later." Billie hung up and came over to me. "Come on. The hotels only a couple minutes away." I nodded and followed him. As we walked, I couldn't help looking at his lips, wishing that they were on mine. I wanted to kiss him so much. He caught me looking and smiled. I blushed and looked down at the passing ground as if it was the most interesting thing around.
"You're strange, Edie." Laughed Billie. I made myself laugh as well. Then we walked in silence for a while. I felt Billie's arm brush mine. The feeling made me shiver with want. Need. Suddenly, as if he felt the same felling when our arms brushed, Billie pressed me against the wall and started kissing me passionately. I welcomed it, kissing him back as much as I could, letting my arms pull him closer. Billie broke away first again, and gazed into my eyes, breathing quickly. I waited for him to say or do something. When he didn't I felt I should.
"We.... We better.... Get back to the.... Hotel...." I mumbled looking away. Even though I wasn't looking at his face I could sense that what I said wasn't what he wanted to hear but he agreed with me anyway.
"You're right."
At the hotel we found that Shona, Mike and Tre were out but had booked rooms. Me and Billie were sharing again but it had two single beds. I watched Billie pull his covers over himself.
"Billie.... That kiss...." I started. I wanted to find out why he had kissed me, and why I had enjoyed it.
"That kiss was nothing. We're just friends. You have Josh." Billie muttered. I left it at that. If it meant that little to him then it meant that little to me I convinced myself in silence, though deep down I knew I wanted to do it again.
"Yeah I guess. You said that it was awesome. Why are you getting all het up about it?"
