Save me from my destiny, chapter 1

August 1990

It was a chili afternoon. I was walking to work as the wind blow in my curly reddish hair. I'm 17 years old and I work in a bar in this little Californian city called Oakland. I quit school last year to help my mother pay the bills. Let's just say that she is not the most responsible woman in the world. She has no real job and had me when she was 16. The worst in that is she was on heavy drugs and she does even know who my father is. I still not sure if I should hate her or take pity on her. As I stepped into the bar, my boss Joss came up to me and said:

"Hey Kate, thanks god you're here. Tonight there is a band playing and the other waitress just called sick.... Do you think you could work a double shift?"

"Euh... "

"Please! It's going to be full!"

"Yeah, sure, I'll do it."

"Ok thanks honey!"

I got into the restroom to change. As I put my black skirt and white blouse on I red the post on the stall door.

SWEET CHILDREN PLAYING AUGUST 12

I hope they would be better that the band last week I thought to myself. I open my locker and throw my jeans and t-shirt in it. I walked back to be door and got face to face with a blond hair and green eyed guy. He was fallowed by 2 other guys who there carrying heavy stuff. We stared for a second and he mumbled a sorry. I continued my way felling a little weird. These eyes! I grabbed a rag and started to clean the tables. It was just 7 and people were already rushing in.

"Hey sweetie, said a big hairy men, bring me a beer, would ya?"

I got back to the bar and took a cold beer out of the fridge. I hated these guys, they were so nasty.

"Hey thanks there babe, he said with a horny smile."

Ah jeez, I hate this job. Then a loud noise came out of the speaker and Joss' voice said:

"Good evening Oakland! Are your guys ready to rock?"

A small cheer got out of the 30 people crowd

"I said, are you ready to rock, he asked louder"

The big men got up and said:

"Are you ready to shut the fuck up?"

Joss gave him a black look and said:

"Please welcome the local band Sweet Children!"

The lights blast on and I saw the 3 guys from earlier appeared on the stage. The green eyed one came up to the micro and said:

"Hey, just by the way we are now called Green Day."

"1 - 2 - 3, creamed the drummer"

"Hey there lookin' at me tell me what do you see but you quickly turn your head away... "

The show rocked. The place was full, I was rushing from a table to an other and I got lot of tip. From time to time, I found myself starring at the singer. He was really hot. At 10:30 I was exhausted. I sat at an empty table in a corner and watched the end of the show.

"Thank you guys! Have a good night"

The crowed cheered. The stage lights turned off and people started leaving. I
finished a beer that was left on a table and got back to work. I saw Joss running up to me looking overjoyed.

"These guys rocked! We made 5 times more profits then last week. I think we should reschedule them for next week, what do you think? "

"Yeah! Sure"

"Hey, are you ok?"

"Umm, ya, just kind of tired"

"Oh... Yeah long night, huh? Well maybe you could go home early, I'll finish cleaning up

"Oh really, thanks, I said hugging him."

"No prob, darling, he said with a smile."

Joss has always been so nice to me. He was a mid age man, brown hair and deep black eyes. He was kind of the father I never had. I don't know what I would have done without him. I could never count on my mother. I walked back to the staff room. I pushed the door and walk up to my locker. Since there were no one else in the room I started to change. I was taking off my shirt when someone came in. It was the Green Day signer. I quickly putted my t-shirt.

"Oh! Sorry I didn't know there was someone here"

"Its okay, I said with a smile. It was funny because he was blushing."

"Eum... I guess I'll come back later"
No it's all right, I'm almost done. Just turn around for a sec.

He turned his back to me. I took off my skirt and jumped into my jeans. I realize he could see me because of the mirror on the wall. I gave him a strange look through the mirror and he smiled.

"Well... I guess I'm done even thought you already know! "

He turned back and walked up to me.

"Hi, I'm Billie Joe Armstrong, he said trying to look formal."

"I'm Kate Summers, I said on the same tone.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, my dear!"

"Haha... Hey it was a great show tonight!"

"Oh well thanks! You work here, right? "

"Oh, no I just like to dress like a waitress and serve beer to everyone. Of course I work here, I said starring at his amazing eyes."

He smiled back at me.

"Soooo, you're doing something right now?

"Well I was planning to go back home, fight with my mother and then go to sleep... "

"Mmm... Interesting"

"Ya! And were did your friends go? "

"A party somewhere. I didn't wanted to go, my ex is gonna be there."

"Oh, so I guess you're stuck with me."

"Yeah, he said trying to look sad."

We got out off the bar. The night was hot and calm and the stars were shining. We walked down the street.

Do you want me to walk you back me, he asked

You know what I don't want to go home...

He smiled and said:

"Great because I don't want you to leave yet."

We walked to the back and sat on a bench. We talked about nothing and everything. It was so great being with him. It felt like I always knew him. We stared in silence for a minute. I could see the moon reflect on him eyes.
"Hey, what time is it, I asked like if I just woke up from a nice dream."

"Euh, its 1am"

"Oh, I think I really should go back home. It's crazy how time flies when we're in good company"

"So soon? Ok let me just walk you home."

"Ok, if you insist"

We walk quickly an arrived in front of a small shaky house.

"Well its here, I said ashamed."

"Ok... hum here is my number, he said giving me a small piece of paper he just wrote on. Call me anytime, I really want to see you again."

"Ok, I said with a large smile."

He grabbed my waist and pulled me toward him. We hugged gently and he gave me a small peck on the neck.

"Bye bye Billie, I said as I walk the 3 little steps."

"Bye Kate."

I turn the key in the lock and walk into the living room. The TV was still on. A smell of burned pizza was floating in the air

- Mom?

I walked up to her room. I knocked on the door. No answer. I pushed the door and found my mother in bed with...

-Joss!?
