Take It All Away (sequel to Numb the Pain), chapter 4
*Andrea's POV*
My breath was taken away with that kiss. I didn't realize exactly what was happening until I felt him push me back against the wall. "Mmmm," I said, then pushed against his chest, pushing him away. He looked at me, shock written all over his face. I have never pushed him away before. "What are you doing?" I was able to say through the gulps of breath I took. He just blinked, than looked confused.
"I was kissing you. 'Cause I thought that is what we both wanted," he said, raising an eyebrow.
"I never said that," I whispered. He looked shocked again.
"Then what exactly did you say?" he whispered.
"I didn't. That's the thing." I turned and paced towards the fridge. "Mike, 14 years ago, I loved you. Then something happened. And I thought that you'd believe me, because you said you loved me too. But, you didn't believe me. And I left. And now we're here. And I don't know if I wanna risk my heart again if it's gonna get broken. It's been broken too much. By Sean and by you."
"How the fuck did I break your heart?! You're the one who kissed Tre then left me. Not the other way around," he said, his face getting angry.
"By not believing me! It was not my fault, and you knew it! You know it now, you knew it then. You broke up with me, which broke my heart way more than when Sean left. Yeah, I married him. But that's not the point. The point is that I can't be here again when I know what happened before. I wish I could forget the past, but I can't," I said, still pacing.
"I can. Andrea, you know I still love you," he said, his eyes burning into the back of my head.
I turned on him, my face unbelieving. "How can you break my fucking heart and tell me you still love me? Huh Mike? How?!" I yelled.
"I just do Andrea. You know I've been married too. I guess it's just funny," he said shaking his head.
"What's funny?"
"It's funny how someone can break your heart and you can still love them with all the little pieces," he whispered. I looked at his face, but had to turn away before I started to bawl.
"Augh. I can't fucking take this. I'm sorry I broke your heart, and I'm sorry I left so fast after you broke mine. But, it's done and over with. I've moved on. So have you. Let's get off it," I said, turning back around. Mike came up and grabbed my arm, spinning me around.
"Andrea, listen to me. I love you. It means so many things. And you-you are all of them," he croaked. I felt tears spring to my eyes and I looked at the ground.
"Mike, please don't," I whispered.
He let go of my arm. "Fine. I see that you really don't car anymore. I'll go now."
"Fine. Go and run away from all your problems. That's what you did 14 years ago, so I guess that part of you hasn't changed," I said, coldly. He glared at me.
"No, it hasn't. Andrea, you cheated on me. What do you expect me to do? Sit there and take that crap?"
"No, maybe not that. But you coulda at least pretended that you cared at the airport or that you where a little bit mad at Tre, considering I wasn't the one sitting there kissing myself. I didn't even get a goodbye. I just got a 'see ya. I gotta go to the bathroom.' That's not exactly my kind of goodbye. I shouldn't even have had to say that. You supposedly loved me...did it even hurt you at all that I left?" I asked, my voice rising more and more.
"YES GOD DAMMIT! IT FUCKING DID! I LOVED YOU ANDREA, I STILL DO!" he yelled, me taken aback. He sighed. "It tore me up inside to see that plane take off, taking you with it. I wanted to run after that fucking plane and get you off there and tell you to stay." I saw tears go down his face. "But you're right. We moved on. I still love you Andrea. But you don't love me." I heard Nicki start yelling for me. He looked at the ceiling. "I'll go then. Take care," he said, then went down the hall and out the door. I sighed, then went up to check on my daughter.
*1 MONTH LATER*
"C'mon Andie! We gotta go!" Tyler yelled from downstairs.
"Okay, okay! Geez!" I said. I grabbed Nicki off her bed and my bag off of mine. I practically ran down the stairs and out the front door. I locked it behind me. I flew to the waiting car, with Tyler behind the wheel. I put Nicki in her seat then got in mine.
We had to go to California for some interview with a band, I'm just not excited about it. It's the first time I'll be back in California since I left and I wasn't to thrilled about seeing all the places we used to go together. I sighed nervously as we pulled into the airport parking lot. Tyler had drove her old station wagon instead of the corvette cause she didn't wanna leave that here to get it stolen over the week period we're in California.
Caiti and Nicki where coming with us because we had no other place to send them. Tony is still in Dallas, so he couldn't watch her. We checked our bags in and went into the terminal to wait. This was both the girls' first plane ride and Caiti was excited while Nicki was scared. She wanted to drive, but I told her we weren't gonna drive 3000 miles to get to California. We finally got on the plane and got our seats. Nicki was whining. "Mommy! I don't wanna go! Leave me with daddy!" she screamed. I sighed. She hasn't seen her father in a year, and no way in hell was I gonna let her go.
"No. Now, Nickole, sit down please." She slumped back against her seat and we waited for the plane to take off. When it finally did, Nicki's face grew fearful. Being New York and winter, there was a lot of turbulence as we went up. When we finally leveled off, she was okay and fell asleep fast. I was restless. We where landing in the same airport that I had taken to get here. And it scared the shit out of me to be going back. I really didn't want to. But, it's my job. So we had to.
As time passed on, I grew even more restless and testy. I snapped at Tyler a couple times when she started to talk about going back. She knew I was born and raised there. And also what happened between me and Mike and what happened a month ago that made me so uneasy. Him admitting that, even when he has a girlfriend, made me unsettled and what to run up to the captain and tell him to turn the plane around. I knew I couldn't, which made me even more nervous. I wasn't plan on seeing Mike at all during our week stay, but you never know what can happen. Everyone ended up falling asleep and I was the only one left awake. My choice of book wasn't good either because it was about two people who used to go out but she left to pursue her career and then the guy showed up years later after they where both married. I ended up putting it down and staring out the window the remainder of the ride due to the fact that I was as nervous as hell and was doing a bad job at hiding it.
As we landed, Nicki was just starting to wake up. I watched out the window as we landed. I saw, surprisingly, familiar sights as we passed over the town of Berkeley, California. I felt dread creep into my blood and bones, every inch of me, as we slowed down on the run way. I tensed as a voice came over the loud speaker. "Good afternoon ladies and gentleman. We have now landed in Berkeley, California. The captain has turned off the seatbelt sign and you may now all unbuckle and exit the plane. Have a good day and thank you for flying with us. We hope you enjoyed your trip." The voice was too happy and I felt the need to punch whoever it was, but restrained myself as I picked up Nicki. We got to the baggage pick up and got our bags.
We where nearing the part where we where to get a car when we saw a sign. Gregory and Drake I smiled as we walked towards it and the guy holding it. Who was cute, if I do say so myself. I smiled at him and he smiled back at me, barely looking at Tyler.
"Hi. My name's Brett and I'll be the driver to take you to your hotel and then again to your interview. Please follow me," he said, taking our luggage. We followed him out to the waiting limo. He opened the door and smiled.
"Thanks Brett," I said, sliding in after Caiti, Nicki and Tyler.
"No problem Mrs. Gregory." We took off and went to the hotel to get settled.
When we walked into the hotel room, I stared wide eyed at the room around us. It was huge. The walls where creamy white and where stucco textured. The wood was all green and went around the doors, windows, and the upper and lower parts of the room. The furniture was all green and white paterns of different things like leaves and flowers. There where three doors to the place. One lead to one room that I was sharing with Nicki, one was for Tyler and Caiti, and one was the bathroom. I went into the bathroom and saw gleaming white porcelain. The tub was a whirl-pool and I knew that was gonna be used over the next week. There where two sinks with metal spouts and knobs. I stood transfixed at the room. I couldn't believe that they put us there. I walked back out and saw a bus-boy was putting our bags inside the door. I gave him a 5 as a tip. We didn't have to go to the interview until later, so I went into the room I was gonna share with Nicki. I put her on the small bed they put in there and she was out like a light. I laid down on the flowered comforter, and feel asleep.
*TWO DAYS LATER, AFTER THE INTERVIEW*
*Still Andrea's POV*
"No, Tyler. I'm not going. I don't wanna go to any club," I said, sitting on the couch in the sitting area of the hotel room.
"Aww! C'mon Andie! I wanna go! I found someplace where we can take Caiti and Nicki while we're there! Please?!" she whined, giving me that infamous puppy dog look of hers. I sighed and laid my head back against my against the couch. I hated that. She knew I would cave, I always did.
I sighed and looked back up at her face. "Okay, fine. I'll go. But, I'm only gonna stay there for an hour. I've got a boyfriend, so you can 'boy-scope' by yourself," I said, getting up.
"Yay!" she said. I went into my room and pulled out the clothes I packed in case she was gonna do this. It was a black, sequence halter top that tied around my neck. I put on my black dress pants I usually wear to work, but looked really good with the top. I strapped on black sandals and drapped a silver necklace around my neck. One that Mike got me 14 years ago. It had a black heart on it and written in blue was I love you. I looked at it in the mirror a moment longer. I scrubbed on some eye-liner and I grabbed my leather coat and Nicki's and went out. Caiti was already had her coat on and Nicki was waiting for hers. I put it on her and zipped it up just as Tyler came out. She had a black tube top on with a black skirt. She had a simple silver chain around her neck and black flip-flops on her feet. We smiled at each other and grabbed up the girls.
We drove to the place where Tyler had found the center to take Caiti and Nicki. We dropped them off then went to a club called The Motion Club. We walked in and saw red, blue, and green lights going all over the place. Classic rocks blared from the huge speakers that sat around the room. I grinned a little, missing hearing the sounds of AC/DC and The Ramones. I Wanna Be Sedated blared next and I felt myself start to sway to the music.
"See, I told you you'd have fun," Tyler said, grinning, and walking over to the bar. I ordered just a Pepsi while Tyler had a beer. Tyler went out onto the dance floor to find a guy to dance with. I just sat over at a table by the bar. I looked around at all the people, sipping lightly on the soda. I looked across the dance floor and saw a familiar head of brown and blonde hair. I narrowed my eyes. I got up and started walking over there. I got to the other side and stopped dead in my tracks.
Mike. Kissing. Brittney.
I knew he had a girlfriend, but it never really sunk in. Until now. My breath caught in my throat as I watched Mike press her further and further into the back of the booth they where sitting at. I didn't notice it, but tears dripped down my face. I hastily wiped at it as I backed up towards the doors. I put the Pepsi on a table and turned around hurriedly. I looked around and spotted Tyler flirting with a nice looking guy by the DJ booth. I hurried to her. "Tyler." I said, pulling on her sleeve.
"Oh, hey Andie. This is Marshell J-" she started, but I interrupted her.
"Hi. C'mere Tyler," I said, pulling harder on her sleeve.
"Okay, okay. Marshell, I'll be right back," she said as I pulled on her arm harder. "What is it?"
"I just saw Mike. He was, he was kissing someone else. I know he's got a girlfriend, but I can't take that Ty. I can't. I wanna go back to the hotel," I practically whined.
"Seriously?" she looked around and spotted him over at the booth. "Oh. Here, take my keys. I'll take a cab and pick up the girls. Just, go ahead," she said sympathetically.
"Thanks," I said, relieved. I took her keys and hurried out to the car.
*Mike's POV*
I looked up from Brittney, no other thought on my mind what-so-ever. Brittney got up, saying she needed to go to the bathroom. She headed off and I just looked at all the different people dancing. A couple girls caught my eye. One with black hair pulled the one with brown hair from a guy and they talked between themselves. I thought I saw one glance over here, but it could've been the light. I saw them exchange something, it could've been keys, and the one with long black hair ran out. I caught her face and gave a start. Andrea. What the fuck is she doing here?! I thought furiously. I watched her run from the club. I got up and watched her through the door. I went over to the door and watched as she got into a corvette with rental plates. I watched her drive off down the road as if she was trying to get away. Then, I knew she had seen me and Brittney. And I felt horrible. That feeling, I knew. I defiantly still loved her.
*BACK AT THE HOTEL*
*Andrea's POV*
I thundered through the front door as tears poured down my face. Why do I even care? I love Tony now, not Mike. Tony. But I already knew the answer to that. Because of our history. Because I used to love him. That's the key word. Used to love him. I don't any more. Do I?
I went into mine and Nicki's room and flung myself across the bed. I was tired and I felt like shit because of what happened tonight. I sat on the edge of the bed and felt the need for the tub. I stumbled into the brightly lit bathroom and turned on the hot tap of the tub. I made it so it was the right temperature and turned on the jets, then went back into my room. I took off my clothes and threw them over the chair that sat in the corner. I grabbed a complimentary towel that hung on the back of my door and put that on. I made my way back to the bathroom and slid into the lavender smelling water.
I sighed contently and turned on the CD player that I had put in here, mine from home. I had forgotten what CD I put in there and American Idiot started playing. I looked at the CD player, debating weather to turn it off or not, but deciding against it. I listened to the music, letting it flow through my veins. Ever since me and Mike started dating years ago, I listened for the bass in every single song. When I found it in their song, I knew it was him. I let my mind wander to him. His bright blue eyes that shown like blue sapphires no matter where we were, shaggy brown hair that was now spiked up with the ends dipped in blonde, his tall lanky figure, muscles bulging from his arms and chest. I smiled at the thought of him. It also confused me. Why am I thinking about him? I don't love him, I love Tony. Why can't I get that through my mind?! I LOVE TONY! TONY! I thought furiously to myself. I laid my head back against the towel that laid on the edge of the tub. I listened to the song more and couldn't take it. I turned it off and slid under the water, hoping that just maybe I could stay down there long enough to sort everything out.
*AT THE CLUB*
*Tyler's POV*
I smiled at Marshell but my thoughts where on Andrea. That fucking guy pisses me off. Just cause he's a famous rock star doesn't mean he can play with people feelings and emotions like that. I excused myself from Marshell and went towards the bathroom. Before I got there, someone grabbed my arm and pulled me back. "Hey!" I said, stumbling. I turned quickly and saw it was Mike. I narrowed my eyes at him. "What the hell do you want?" I practically growled at him.
"I wanna talk to Andrea."
I shook my head furiously. "No. You've caused her enough heart break and the fact that she saw you tonight with Brittney, I think she'd gonna finally be able to get over you," I said, trying to get away, but he just held on tighter. "Let go."
"No. Just listen Tyler. I still love her, I do. I really gotta talk to her. It's important," he said, his voice full of guard.
I crossed my arms. "Why should I believe you? Why should she believe you? Yes, she did kiss someone else, but you can tell all of her emotions and feelings in her eyes. That's the thing. All of what she's thinking is displayed in her eyes. 14 years ago, you should've seen that. You could've married her! But, you didn't know enough to look into her eyes and see that she loves you and she didn't mean what she did," I let out, telling him everything. I've been friends with her since she moved out here and she's my best friend and I wasn't about to let her get hurt again by the same guy.
He was looking at me, shock written all over his face. "I understand Tyler, but I really wanna talk to her and straighten this out before you guys go back to New York and she walks out of my life for the last time," he said, his voice starting to plead. I sighed and shook my head.
"Fine. I'll give you the hotel name and room number. But, please, don't do anything to hurt her again," I said, my voice pleading now. I didn't want my friend to get hurt.
He nodded. "Yes. Okay. Thank you so much Tyler," he said.
"Yeah, yeah. The hotel is The Berkeley Inn and it's room 803 on the 8th floor. She should be there soon," I said, shrugging off his thanks because I know that Andrea was gonna get me for this. Or she'd love me. She told me she doesn't love him anymore. She's wrong. She loves him with all her heart and soul she just has to think she's over him to keep sane. He nodded, writing the stuff down, and ran out the door.
*Mike's POV*
I ran to my car, jumping in. I raced down the street, for some reason thinking that she wouldn't be there when I got there. When I finally pulled up, I tried to quiet my footsteps as I ran to the elevator. It seemed like it took forever, but it finally got there. 803. Go left. I ran left and finally stopped in front of the door. I pulled myself together, then knocked.
*Andrea's POV*
I was sitting in the bath, enjoying the moving water around me, when I heard a loud knock at the door. I frowned at the bathroom door. Who could that be? I thought as I turned off the stereo. I gingerly got out of the nice, hot water and dried off a bit before I put the robe on. the knock came again as I stepped into the cold living room. I shivered and went over. "I'm coming. I'm coming. Hold on," I mumbled, knowing who ever it was couldn't hear me.
When I opened the door, and looked up at the person standing in front of me, I had to hold in a gasp.
Mike.

"No, Tyler. I'm not going. I don't wanna go to any club," I said, sitting on the couch in the sitting area of the hotel room.

Mike.
