She's my Fucking Daughter! I Have to See Her!, chapter 13

Lizz let go of me and sat on the ground next to a gas pump. Her hands were shaking. She was scared. Then I realized that mine were, too. I sighed. How can I act so brave all the time? When I'm out on tour, I'm away from my family. That makes me want to cry. I love them so much.

When Adrienne wanted a divorce because of it, I didn't cry. When she cut herself because of it, I didn't cry. When I missed Joey's first steps, I didn't cry. When I missed his first words, I didn't cry. I should have. Because they weren't "Daddy" or "Mommy." Do you want to know what they were? It was what Adi kept saying when I was gone. "When will you come home?"

I let out a breath and ran a hand through my hair. I've been sweating, I'm so scared. I wiped my hand on the side of my pants. I looked at my watch. 8:30. I looked at the sky. It was black. There was no moon. The lights overhead from the station was enough to blind you.

We heard a crash and a car speed off. I looked up with a jolt. I couldn't believe what I saw at the door. People ran off toward the sound of the car. No one rushed to what was at the door. They didn't see it. I did.

Scarlet hung out through the broken glass. Blood ran from her mouth and was all over the jacket that I gave her. I looked at Lizz. Her eyes were wide. I looked at Tre. So were his. The girl with the ice pack on her shoulder cried.

We all looked at each other and ran to Scarlet. I put her head in my lap. That's when I did start to cry. I cried so hard. Tears fell on her chest. All the things in the past that I didn't cry at and should have were coming back to me.

I ran a hand through her hair. Her eyes opened. I stopped crying. She ran out of my arms and into Lizz's. I looked at my hands. What just happened?

Lizz's eyes got wide as Scarlet cried into her arms. Lizz looked at me. I shrugged. "Hunny,"Lizz said, pulling back,"We thought you were dead." "They're gonna catch him,"Scarlet said,"I just know it!"
"Baby, are you okay?"
"Yeah. But Isaac's not!"
"Who's Isaac?"
"The man who was in there with me!"
"And you're afraid that they're gonna catch him? Baby, you should be happy!"
"No I shouldn't! The only reason he held the place up is because he doesn't know what right from wrong is! He has a daughter and his ex-wife won't let him see her! His mother died when he was eight and his dad was never around! He doesn't deserve to go to jail!"

She cried even harder. Paramedics arrived. They tried to get her into the stretcher, but, she wouldn't let them. "I'm okay!"she said, wiping the blood off and still crying,"It's ketchup!"

She sat down and let out a breath. She ran a hand through her hair. Just like me when I'm shaky. She closed her eyes and started to speak. "I made up a plan,"she said,"For me to be let go and be okay and for him to get away. I was supposed to cover myself in ketchup and fling myself out of the glass door and he was supposed to speed off in his car. It's not the greatest plan in the world, but, I'm okay."

The police were beginning to arrive again. They had Isaac in the back seat. He gave us an angry look. I flipped him off. An officer walked to Scarlet. "Ma'am,"he said,"Is this the man who held up the store?" "Yeah,"she sighed.
"Alright. Take 'em awa-"
"No! Don't!"
"What?"
"Please don't. I-I don't want you to. He's nice."
"Nice? Ma'am, he held you hostage."
"I don't care! He didn't hurt me and he didn't even try to!"
"Well, we still have t-"
"No you don't! He didn't hurt me! I tried to hurt myself with a blade! H-he took it away from me..."

We all stared at her. Lizz started to cry again. Scarlet got up and held her. "It's okay, Momma,"she whispered,"I'm alright. You don't have to cry anymore." The cop put a hand on Scarlet's shoulder.
"Ma'am, we don't have any proof that he did that."
"Yes, there is."

She let go of Lizz and walked to the car. She pointed at the door.
"Open it."
"Ma'am, we ca-"
"Now!"

I smirked. She's just a little too much like me. They opened the door and Isaac stepped out. He was handcuffed. Scarlet dug through his pockets and winced as she grabbed something. "Ow,"she whispered, lifting it up to show everybody,"There you go. Now will you please let him be?"
"He still has to go to court,"the officer said,"But if you could testify or something, he may still have a chance." She nodded and put down the blade.

Everyone left a few minutes later, leaving me, Tre, Scarlet, Lizz, and the girl with the ice pack alone. She ran to Scarlet. "Nobody!"she said squeezing her,"You're okay! You scared us so much!"
"It's okay, Deb,"Scarlet said, letting go,"How's your arm?"

They began talking as I watched them. Wow, that's my daughter. She's standing right in front of me. Lizz walked up to her. "Let's go home, Nobody,"she said. "Wati!"I said stopping them. I ran and hugged Scarlet. "I'm glad you're o-"was all I could say before she pushed me off. "Leave me alone!"she said, hugging Lizz,"You're not my dad, so quit bothering me!"

I gaped. "You should be ashamed, Billie," Lizz said. I gaped even more. What the hell? "Sorry,"she mouthed when Scarlet wasn't looking. Then they walked off without saying a word.
