You Got Me On My Knees, chapter 12
I wanted to see Jane again. She was nice to me and no matter how much I loved all my boy friends I could use a little girl talk. Too much testosterone was never good.
"How are things?" she asked, drinking her French coffee.
"Good actually. Better at least."
"Mike?"
"Still having both a wife and a daughter."
"And you? Still pining about it?"
"When I'm reminded, yes."
"Sorry."
I noticed that she smiled a lot. "How is his daughter?" she asked
"She's amazing. Here." I opened my purse and took out a photo of Estelle. I loved this little girl. I wouldn't even admit it to the image of me in the mirror but I felt her like my daughter.
Don't forget she was named after me. And she even said her first word when I was with her. "Ella."
"Really cute." Jane said and handed the picture back.
"Is there something going on with you?" I asked.
"
Oh yeah I forgot to mention. David and I are engaged."
Great. Another person is going to get married. Ok, I am a career girl who doesn't want to be locked up in a house with a bunch of kids running around but damn! Some day I wanted to get married to the man I love. Even though he's already married.
And guess who I found hanging out with Billie when I got back! That's right; thy man.
"Hey El." He smiled once I got in.
"Hey Mike. Hey Beej." Billie blew me a kiss and asked if I wanted anything. I said I was alright. Then I heard a baby crying.
"Is Estelle here?" I asked enthusiastically.
"Yep. In your room. I should go and check on her."
"No I can do it." I offered. Whenever Mike smiled his eyes sparkled for just a second. It wasn't my imagination it really happened every time.
As soon as I picked Estelle up she stopped whining. I gave her a kiss and put on "She Caught The Katy" from the Blues Brothers soundtrack.
I started dancing slowly with her in my arms and she even smiled at me! What a sweet girl.
"There you go Stella. Once you grow up a little I'll teach you how to dance." I promised her.
"Hey El. You ok?" Billie knocked the door and entered after permission.
"Yep I'm fine. Just showing Estelle what good music means."
"I so want to fuck you right now." Came Billie's unexpected answer which successfully managed to make me laugh.
"So much for being friends."
"Friends with benefits we said."
"We'll see. Let me play the 'Cool Fun Aunt' now." Billie smirked and left the room, blowing me another kiss. He was just another romantic chump after all.
Three months later Green Day's fourth album "Insomniac" came out.
It was one of the wildest things I've ever heard. I first listened to it while lying on my bed and I felt so angry that I got up and threw a notebook on the wall. Don't ask why it just made me feel furious.
Then Billie said that I was the inspiration of "86" and it all became better. I was still writing my novel, reading it to Billie or Tre who were always supportive.
Mike used to be my biggest fan but reading to him would now mean that we would have to be alone, somewhere quiet, probably sitting on a couch; and with me and Mike you never know...
"Is this tattoo for the person I think it is?" Billie asked me, the night before they left.
"Yeah." I nodded. There was no point in denying it, Billie was not a stranger. He ran his finger up and down the drawing of my skin for a moment and then looked up and smiled.
"You still love him don't you?"
"Yeah I do." Again, I had to be honest.
"Knew it." We laughed the awkward moment off.
"I got a new tattoo." I informed him, grinning.
"Really? Where? I can't see it. And I'm top of you which would normally mean that I get a clearer vision."
"I'd say that's not true. You have completely covered me. Get off and I'll show it to you." Billie stood up and we both got out of the bed.
"Ready?" I asked.
"More than ever. Just show me the tattoo already."
I took off my blouse and got closer to him so that he could examine my arm properly.
"This is fucking awesome!" he shouted. "And on a spot that will be seen by the world, boy, am I flattered!"
"It doesn't say your name moron."
"Well do you have more 'friends with benefits' girl?"
I shook my head negatively. "Well then this tattoo is about me!"
"Alright it's not like you got your face tattooed in Joey Ramone's butt chic!"
"God that would be so gross!"
I laughed at him and gave him a hug. "Who's gonna miss Billie when he's not here?" he asked in a childish voice.
"Layla will." I reassured him.
"You know I've been thinking about this whole thing we've been doing for the last couple of months... As friends... "
"And?"
"Feels nice."
"But?"
"But... We're just friends right? Friends who are being very... Friendly?"
I noticed the look of concern on his face. "Yeah. You know I love Mike. And I know that you're not committing. But sex with you is... I don't know... It's relaxing."
"I agree."
"Good."
"Wanna relax a little more before we go to sleep?
"Sounds fine by me."
"How are things?" she asked, drinking her French coffee.
"Good actually. Better at least."
