You Got Me On My Knees, chapter 24

"So, did he ask you to marry him yet?" I could hear Amy chopping something while she was talking to me on the phone.

"No, but I'm in no hurry. It's enough just to know that whenever he does I can say yes. What are you doing over there?"

"I'm trying to make a salad but so far I've cut two fingers and threw away all my groceries. I'm useless like that."

I laughed. "Why don't you come over for dinner? Mike, Billie and Tre will be here."

"Sure, I'll be there in two hours," And she hung up. She was really weird but in a way that was wonderful.

"Who was that?" Mike asked, coming out from the bathroom, drying his wet hair with a towel. He had just taken a shower so he was still topless and thick drops of water were running down his face. He looked so gorgeous that I went closer to him like a moth to the flame and kissed him.

"That was Amy. I invited her for dinner tonight."

"The girl from the hospital?"

"Yeah, is that ok?"

"Sure. I thought she was pretty cool."

"You're so fucking beautiful," I breathed and brought my lips to his wet chest, smelling the soap and his scent. He grinned at me and bended to kiss my neck and I groaned in surprise when I felt his tongue slipping out to taste me.

"Fourth month of pregnancy rocks," he said and I nodded, laughing.

"Let's go inside," I suggested, pointing at the bedroom.

"I'm right behind you lady."

Okay, so now I was really showing. My stomach was like a balloon, my breasts were similar to those of Anne Nicole Smith and my face was plump. I didn't feel all that well about myself. Fourth month had come and gone so pregnancy seemed to have lost its fun.

Mike was spending all the time he could with me, so that was an advantage but having to puke every night and feeling sick all day sucked.

The place Amy had suggested for us to live was awesome. It had enormous rooms and a garden that seemed to me the same size as Central Park, a swimming pool and a music studio all set and done for Green Day to jam whenever they felt like it.

We bought it in a heartbeat and started making the necessary changes. If everything went according to plan, we would move before the baby arrived.
Speaking of Amy, I wasn't the only one that found her nice...

The night she had come to dinner, Billie and her seemed to be really hitting it off. It turned out that she was a musician herself so they had plenty of things to talk about. And the following morning I got up to go to the kitchen and get Mike some juice and I found her there, wearing one of Billie's T-shirts and spreading butter to some toasts.

I screamed at first which made her scream too but once I came around I was quite amazed. Amy and Billie.

"Well, girl, I finally accepted the fact that I'm never going to have you so I thought I'd give it a shot," He explained, having his famous smirk on.

They were not exactly a couple but they definitely weren't just friends with benefits. This was good.

Mike was realizing more and more that he was going to be a dad again. To tell the truth, I was way more nervous than him because I had not the slightest idea of labour or taking care of new born babies.

But when I saw him with Estelle, who was now four years old can you believe it? I knew I didn't have to worry about a thing; he was a great father.

"Hello baby...I can't wait to meet you...I'm going to love you so much you know...and when your mom is being bitchy you can come to me and we'll create a little unit against her..." he said in a baby voice, stroking my stomach.

"I hope you won't be saying the same shit when he's born," I told him, pretending to be angry.

"We should check if it's actually a he, you know. Imagine if we get all boy stuff and it's a girl?"

"I thought we were going to be surprised."

"Well yeah but don't we need to go baby shopping? How are we going to know what stuff we're supposed to pick?"

"Well we can go unisex." he thought it over and then shrugged.

"Sure, okay. I'm so curious though... "

"Four months is nothing, baby."

And one month after that, we finally moved. Billie was so sad not to have roommates anymore that he did anything he could to convince us against it. He said that the house was not safe and that it was going to fall off any minute, he tried to make us believe that it was haunted and finally he burst out crying. Sweet thing.

"Billie, we're ten minutes away from each other," I tried to make him feel better.

"Yeah, and now you and Amy can walk around naked and have sex on the floor without worrying about us two interrupting," Mike told him.

"Still I'm gonna miss you guys so much. It was really fun having you both living with me."

"Yeah, but I'm going in labour in three months and then there's going to be a screaming baby around, yelling its lungs out 24 hours a day and stealing away all the attention."

"I don't care, I like babies..."

"Well, you can come by anytime you want and stay for as long as you like how does that sound?"

"Ok I guess," I laughed and gave him a kiss on his cheek.

Our new house was amazing.

I was spending most of my time in the swimming pool as it was getting hot, or in our music room where all our records were and I couldn't wait for this baby to get out of me. It was kicking all the time and giving me morning sickness and mood swings which were far from amusing anymore.

Not to mention the uncontrollable appetite.

Still, life was getting better all the time. Estelle was now staying with us permanently and for some reason she was getting louder every day. She was running around screaming during the morning, then she would shout for lunch to be ready and after eating she was watching cartoons and laughing hysterically until the sun came down and she could spend the rest of the day in the pool. The house was full of life to say the least.

All I had to do now was wait for something else to happen.

"Somebody shut that kid up. I'll pay," Billie sighed, covering his ears. Estelle had just discovered the charms of singing "Old McDonald's Had a Farm."

"Hey, watch how you talk about my daughter," Mike pretended to take offence.

"I'll go tell her to be quiet," I offered, smiling. I was quite fond of old McDonald though.

"Hey, Stella," I took her in my arms and gave her a kiss.

"Hey, Ellie mom."

"What?" I asked confused.

"You're going to be my daddy's new wife, so you're also going to be my mummy right? But I already have a mummy and her name is Anna so I'm going to call you Ellie mom."

This girl was an angel. "Okay, if you really want to you can call me that."

"Yay!"

"But try to be a little quiet, ok? Uncle Billie has a headache."

"Ok. Can I go play at the pool?"
"Sure, we're all out there you can come too."

"Cool. I'll go put on that new bathing suit my dad got me. It has Mickey Mouse on it!"

"Wow! Go wear it and come out, ok?"

"I will, Ellie mom!"

I laughed and let her down. Just when Estelle got into her room, Amy came out of the bathroom looking pale. She had been weird for the last few weeks but she wouldn't tell me why. Billie was also a little worried but most of the times she did a good job hiding whatever bothered her from him.

"Is everything alright?" I asked her.

"Yeah, I just had too much pizza."
"
Oh right. Of course."

Mike was the exact opposite from Amy, though.

He was thrilled that the baby was on its way that he couldn't possibly hide it. It was all he kept talking about. He was spending all his free time in its room moving stuff around and making plans.

This baby was going to be really overwhelmed.

He had every Disney film that ever existed, had bought a TV, bought teddy bears and Lion King characters, CDs with songs and complication tapes he thought the baby might like, covered the walls with photos of the Beatles and posters from Toy Story and Yellow Submarine.

He wanted that room to be perfect and maybe that's why he proposed to me in there.

All right get comfortable because this is one hell of a story:

We were alone one night and I was watching TV, eating ice cream while Mike was busy in there, changing things around. He had informed me that he was going to finish that day but he wouldn't let me near it because he wanted it to be a surprise.

Anyway, finally I was allowed to see it and when I did I started sobbing. Not because of the hormones.

It was perfect; everything about it was like a dream I never had because I was too busy making other plans that I never noticed that simple things like this get you happiness.

The walls were painted light green, not too girly not too boyish, and Mike had gotten a carpet full of guitars and drums and I Heart Music on it and all the furniture was really stylish. But I really went down when I saw the cradle with all the toys in it. Mike had even bought a teddy bear with a shirt saying "I Love My Mommy."

"It's so amazing," I breathed and buried my face in his chest; being so fucking happy I couldn't stop crying.

"Yeah, we're going to have a baby. Parents El. You and me."

"Who would have thought right?"

"Yeah. Right."

"All we have to do now is wait for him or her to come."

"Well, that. And also that other thing"

"What other thing?"

"El, look around you. All this is happening because of you. You're the world to me. You've...you've...I really can't get it together right now."

We were both crying; it was funny. Mike turned around to wipe his tears as if I was going to think less of him.

"You've made me really happy El," He finally said. "And I want to be this happy for the rest of my life. You, me and everyone else that loves us. What do you say?"

"Well..." I sniffed. "Let me see the ring first. If I like it we can make some deal."

He laughed and took a box out of his pocket. I really didn't care about the ring but it was beautiful anyway.

"Affirmative."

And then he lifted me up, despite my weight, and we kept on crying until we were lacking of happy tears. We slept in the baby's room that night.
