You Got Me On My Knees, chapter 6

One day, I was sitting by the pool, reading "My Family and Other Animals" when David came to invite me to a bar his girlfriend and he would be going that evening.

"Come on, we'll dance, we'll drink, we'll get wasted and I will probably get high and make a fool of myself. It will be funny."

"Okay I'm in." I replied laughing.

I tried to look at my best that night. I put on my favorite black skirt and a sleeveless red blouse, curled my hair, asked Jane to help me with my make-up and practiced my dancing skills a little as I hadn't used them in a while. I would have fun that night.

"Wow I don't know if I have what it takes to be with two knock-outs on the same day!" gasped David once he saw Jane and me walking down the stairs.

Jane was great looking. Red hair, unbelievably thin but not in a way that looked sick, blue eyes, white skin and cute freckles. She was dressed a white floating dress, leaving her back uncovered and was hardly wearing any make-up.

She was the type of girl who didn't need support to look beautiful.

"You girls look amazing!" said David and kissed his girlfriend on the mouth. "Layla, very sexy." He kissed my hand and bowed.

"Thank you kind sir. Now let's get the fuck right out of here I want to shake it tonight!"

"Right on! I have the limo waiting."

"I love having rich friends... " I sighed and we all got out.

"Wow this place is so crowded!!" I screamed at Jane who had already started dancing.

"I know! We came late. The DJ has already started his program." And he was a fucking good DJ. He was playing "Revolution" by the Beatles when we got in and everybody was jumping up and down, shouting.

I joined them, always loving that band and danced as much as I could. The guys and I used to dance a lot.

Especially Tre and me. But when I was alone with Mike he would occasionally put on our favorite song and fool around with me.

"Revolution" started facing off and "Break on Through (To the Other Side)" by the Doors came on! It was my favorite song by them. I remembered once talking with Mike about how it's a guarantee if you want people on their feet.

I jumped around, close to David and Jane and anybody else that came along, shaking my body to the rhythm. This music was so capable of making you lose it!
The Doors gave their place to Joan Jett and "I Hate Myself for Loving You."

This was how I always felt about him. No matter how hard I tried I was so stuck with Mike. I shouted my lungs out, following the lyrics, having lost Dave and Jane and just becoming one with the mob now.

The DJ switched to Thin Lizzy and "The Boys Are Back in Town." And then to "Brand New Cadillac" by the Clash. I was unbelievably tired and hot and thirsty but I kept going anyway. All the songs were worth to dance for. "Let's Spend the Night Together" by my beloved Rolling Stones was next and I had to pick up the pace. I just had to.

"Hi!" I heard a voice behind me. I turned around and saw a gorgeous green eyed guy, moving closer to me. He was blonde and tall, with an excellent sense of style and equally good dancing skills.

"Hello!" I shouted at him and kept on jumping and singing.

"You dance beautifully!" he yelled back.

"Thanks so do you!"

"I'm Paul!"

"I'm Layla!"

"Nice name!"

"Thanks! Right back at you!" Just then "Let Me Roll It" by the Wings was heard.
'That's the most convincing love song I've ever listened to!' I had once told Mike while we were putting our records in boxes to move out of our first house.

Paul was now stretching his hand to me, asking me to dance with him. I didn't know why but instead of taking it and enjoying the music I started getting away, shaking my head negatively. I went to find a seat and once I did I started crying. This song was the absolute hymn to the meaning of love; I couldn't dance to it with a total stranger.

"Hey are you okay?" Jane held me by the shoulder and shouted to be heard. "Yeah I'm alright." I wiped my tears away and forced a smile. "I think I'll go."
"No come on. The DJ will play one last song. Stay for it." I shrugged my shoulders and compromised. After all this DJ was awesome. The familiar sound of trumpet started filling the room.

"Come on... "
Everybody stood and clapped their hands to the beat of the song. I was so nervous that I felt my head too heavy to stay up.

"Baby don't you wanna go... "
I tried to find the place this DJ was. There was no way this would all be a freaky coincidence. He had played all the songs I liked and he had chosen this as his finale. The DJ was Mike.

"Back to the same old place... "
I got up after tracking him to the end of the spacious room, pushed a lot of people and finally I was so close I could see him, wearing earphones and moving slightly, as the song went on. God, it was Mike.

"Sweet home Chicago"
He waved at everybody once the song was finished and disappeared to the back room of the bar. I ran to the same direction while the rest of them started shouting for more. There were people everywhere; it was frightening. I started screaming his name but I got no response.

The noise was still too loud. "Mike!" I shouted once I finally saw him some feet away. He turned around and I could tell he was just as surprised as me. We stood there for some seconds, just looking at each other. I was the first to run towards him, though.

I hadn't seen him in almost a year now and I had fucking missed him. I jumped on him and covered his lips with mine before he could say anything. I refused to let go. "

Thought I'd never see you again... " he whispered. I couldn't hear him but I nodded, reading his lips before kissing him again. He held me and guided me somewhere, his face never getting away from mine.

"Bathroom?" I asked, confused once I realized we were both making out in a tiny room.

"It's peaceful." He replied.

"Why not?" I said and quickly unbuttoned him.

"Oh El I missed... " I didn't let him finish as we didn't have much time to start getting emotional. Hell we still were at a club! 'At least I won't have to hold myself if I have to shout. It's still very loud.'
