A Day On The Green, chapter 12
‘Okay so, the American Civil War was over?’, Steph asked, pacing up and down infront of Billie Joe who sat on the couch.
‘Ahh over the slavery of the Black Americans’, Billie Joe answered. Steph sat down beside him and looked at him. There was a reason that she was here at 10.30 at night helping Billie Joe out and it wasn’t so that he could study with her. She moved over so that she was sitting next to him.
‘I don’t see why we need to go over anything else. You know it all perfectly well’, she told him.
‘Listen what about we go over it ahh, once more then’, he suggested becoming nervous.
‘How about we do something else? There’s this really good movie on tonight and I told Jason I’d be at a friends place so he wont mind if I stay here a little longer than what I usually would’, Steph told Billie Joe changing the channel on the TV set. She put the remote down and sat again down next to Billie Joe a little closer than before making him even more nervous. She made him put his arm around her and they sat there in the darkness watching the movie.
-Half Way though the Movie-
‘Steph’, Billie Joe whispered to her.
‘Yeah Billie Joe, she replied, keeping her eyes focused on the movie.
‘We’ve been friends like for a while now and I wanna know that I can confide in you’, he told her.
‘Billie you know you can tell me anything’, Steph told him looking up at him. She pushed his hair from infront of his face back and smiled into his eyes.
‘I’m, kinda still a fridget’, he told her shyly. Steph looked up at him and smiled.
‘It doesn’t make you any less of a person’, she told him smiling still.
‘I know, but,’ he told her quietly, ‘I kinda had a person in mind that could end it all for me’, he said, not noticing Steph had her focus back on the TV again.
‘That’s nice Billie Joe ’, she said focused on the conversation again and not hearing what he had just told her. Billie Joe felt a tremble in his bottom lip and bit it so that it wouldn’t be obvious.
‘Hey ahh did you get a reply from Tre today?’, he asked her curiously. Steph looked up at him.
‘Yeah I did actually. But then again so did Laura’, she said calmly, trying not to break out.
‘Laura?’, Billie Joe asked curiously.
‘Yeah, Tre was talking to her. I guess he got what he wanted after all’, she said bluntly focusing back on the telly. Billie Joe stroked her hair.
‘Don’t let it get you down. Anyways I was wondering if you know if this person would help me’, he said continuing the conversation from before.
‘Yeah I’m sure any girl would help you’, Steph said being cut off. Billie Joe’s upper body seemed to pounce out on her, forcing her down into the couch. The kiss was deep and full of meaning and Steph started to feel powerless against Billie Joe above her.
‘BILLIE JOE, BILLIE JOE’, she screamed trying to force him off of her. Billie sat up dropping his head not to make any eye contact with her.
‘Billie where’s all this coming from?’, she asked unusually, now that she knew the reason Billie Joe wanted a ‘study session’ with her at his place.
‘I, I don’t know. I guess I’ve always had it but you and Tre and.......well it must have sparked and hit me worse than it usually did’, he explained, putting his head into his hands. Steph rubbed his back a little to calm him down seeing that he was worked up and all.
‘Listen, Billie Joe......I like you and all, but’, she said pausing.
‘But’, Billie Joe continued kissing her gently. This time Steph didn’t fight back and just let the kiss take its tole on her. it was only light and gentle but it seemed to last forever. Finally she pulled back breaking it.
‘Billie Joe I like you, but you’re just not Tre’, she told him, getting up and grabbing her coat. Before Billie Joe could say anything in response Steph made her way for the door.
‘I’ll see you tomorrow at school’, she told him leaving Billie Joe to sit alone, by himself in the darkness of his apartment..
