A Day On The Green, chapter 13
The next day at school Steph and Billie did there best to avoid eachother. They took new routes to their classes and sat where they usually didn’t.
‘Hey Steph is everything alright?’, Tre asked her, walking beside her to her locker after the bell for lunch had just gone off. Steph seemed to be in a day dream world.
‘STEPH’, Tre said again, stopping her as she almost walked past her locker.
‘Ah yeah what?’, she asked him, opening her locker before she shoved her bag in there.
‘Are you alright?’, he asked her getting a response this time.
‘Yeah I’m fine, why wouldn’t I be?’, she asked him smiling at him. Tre smiled back.
‘I don’t know. Oh and you are like the greatest girl, have I ever told you that?’, he asked her.
Steph shook her head.
‘No I don’t think you have. And why would I be the greatest girl ever?’, she asked him.
‘Well Laura and I are going out tonight after the battle of the bands. You’re the greatest I don’t believe she actually took notice of me’, he explained.
Those were enough words to make her heart break. Tears started to swell up in her eyes but she managed to keep them back from getting out. She dropped her head as she felt Tre’s arm go around her as he walked her away from her locker.
‘I cant thankyou enough’, he told her in his cheeky helium voice.
‘Its alright, you don’t have to’, she said bitting her lip. Tre kissed her on the forehead.
‘Hey that guy you were talking about at the movies, would it be Billie by any chance?’, he asked her.
Steph looked at him strangely.
‘Ahh could be’, she said to him, letting her eyes drop. He put his arm back around her.
‘Well I know something you might wanna know about the way he feels about you’, Tre told her.
‘I think I already know’, she let out dropping her head even more.
‘Well, isn’t that a good thing like. He likes you, and you still have your thing for him’, Tre said smiling.
‘Tre I had a thing for Billie when I was in 6th grade. That’s four years ago’, Steph said slowly. Tre hugged her and told her everything was going to be alright.
‘Steph, Billie is inlove with you. He’s just kinda iffy about it. Maybe he’s the perfect guy you’ve always wanted to have and you just haven’t realized it’, Tre told her, looking into her eyes with meaning.
Before she was able to tell him the way she really felt about him, Laura came past and took him away from her.
‘Great, now Tre’s gone and battle of the bands starts in like 10 minutes’, she thought to herself, ‘I have to find Jason’, she thought walking off to find her brother.
-Backstage with Jason-
‘Jason, but he’s inlove with her, and he told me to tell Billie practically how I felt about him’, Steph explained to her brother trying to make him understand.
‘Well then what’s wrong with it? Just tell Billie how you feel if you still feel that way’, Jason told her.
‘But Jason, I don’t know where Billie is that’s the problem’, Steph told him, pulling at her hair angrily. She had finally figured out everything she needed to. The only problem was now that she had to find the right guy to tell him her words.
‘Okay well if you see him while I go searching for him can you tell him I’m looking for him?’, she asked her brother as Mike walked in.
‘Yeah sure’, Jason told her giving her a hug to relax her before she lost it totally.
‘Who are you two looking for?’, Mike asked, taking his bass out of its case.
‘Billie’, Steph blurted out with a shower of tears coming down her face.
‘Billie, I just saw him before by his locker, if you leave like now, you’ll get there in time’, Mike told her. With those words, Steph left the room and ran to Billie’s locker hoping to catch him before he left.
-Before the boys’ music set –
‘Billie, Steph’s been looking for you all-over the school’, Mike said, watching the tired boy drag his guitar in.
‘That’s nice’, he said sarcastically talking Blue out of its hard case.
‘Well she looked all worked up about something. Did something happen between you two?’, Jason asked, plugging his amp in. Billie Joe nodded.
‘Yeah, but I don’t wanna talk about it’, he told them; strictly meaning he didn’t want to talk about it.
‘Alright then, well come on, we’re on next’, Mike told them, walking out into the stage with his guitar. Billie Joe dropped a letter he was planning to give to Steph to say sorry to her in his case and walked of thinking;
‘THIS IS A SHOW THAT MUST GO ON’...
