A Day On The Green, chapter 3
‘Come on Steph. Just one date’, Billie Joe said pleadingly walking along side her to her locker.
‘No Billie Joe, I’m not gonna do it’, she told him, opening the door to her locker. He rested up against the one next to her and watched her unpack her bag.
‘It doesn’t have to even be a date. Just like hang around with him so she notices he’s like taken’, Billie Joe told her trying to be persuasive. She looked at him, while throwing her geography text into her locker.
‘And then you’ll tell me that we’ll have to go places together, hold hands, giggle and whisper and eventually kiss. Right?’, she asked him, slamming the door shut. Billie Joe looked at her wide eyed, resting his back against the metal doors.
‘Well yeah, kinda’, he told her, smiling sweetly. Steph rolled her eyes not impressed.
‘Its not happening Billie Joe’, she told him bluntly walking off. He followed her pulling her into the closest door they were near.
‘Listen Steph, please just once. Just for Tre’, he told her, letting the door close behind them so they were in complete darkness.
‘No Billie Joe, its not, come on stop bothering me with this. What would be in it for me anyways?’, she asked him, leaning back against the door causing it to jam shut. He stepped forward hoping to stare her down and scare her into saying yes.
‘The satisfaction of......well knowing you’ve helped someone get something they want’, he said smiling. She turned to open the door but before she did, she spoke again.
‘Okay, listen. For Tre......I’ll think about this. But it doesn’t mean I’m going to say yes’, she told him, trying to open the door. The handle sat still, stuck into position.
‘Oh god’, she let out, rattling the handle even more, ‘Oh god, oh god, why me, why this?’, she let out, shaking the handle even more.
‘What’s wrong?’, Billie Joe asked noticing they were still in darkness. He looked over her shoulder noticing she was having trouble opening the door.
‘We’re stuck in here? How are we gonna get out?’, she asked him, thumping her fist on the door in hope that someone would hear them and let them out. Billie Joe searched around for a light switch. He felt one on the wall and flicked it on, letting a dim light filter the room. They looked around to see bottle, buckets, mops and millions of detergent facing them. Almost staring them down.
‘Oh god we need to get out of here un-noticed’, Steph shrieked, shaking the door handle even more.
‘Why?’, Billie Joe asked her calmly, trying to help with the door.
‘Cos it’s the janitors closet, and if someone catches us in here’, she managed to get out before the door started opening. They were faced by a bright ray of natural light beaming down on then, before they saw the eyes of the janitor and gym coach.
‘You two, the principle office now’, the gym teacher said in an aggressive tone, pointing them out the way. Billie Joe let his head drop and made his eyes focus anywhere but the light shinning in on them.
‘Oh god’, Steph let out. The two members of authority looked down at them.
‘What did you say?’, the janitor asked, looking at both of them. His eyes flicked over and over. They finally now knew the truth about his glass eye.
‘Nothing’, Billie Joe said, taking a hold of Steph’s hand as he led her down to the principles office.
-After a quick meeting with the principle-
The two teens walked as quickly as they could back to the locker area, hoping nothing was said or spread about what had happened to them. Mike, Tre and Jason seemed to catch them on their way.
‘Billie Joe, your meant to be helping me get Steph to get Laura, not doing her in the janitors closet’, Tre whispered to him so that Steph wouldn’t hear.
‘Tre I didn’t. The door locked us in’, Billie Joe sighed, ‘Where’d you hear about this anyways?’, he asked.
‘Oh some Jocks saw you two being told to go to the knacks office’, Tre explained to him. Billie Joe waited until Steph was speaking with Jason and Mike so that he could tell Tre the news that he had.
‘Well, what do you have to say to me?’, Tre asked him, wanting to know whether it was all systems go or not, as well for the reason he didn’t want to stuff around infront of Steph.
‘Listen she said......’For Tre......I’ll think about it’......so man you’re totally in, just well we’ll have to impress her when you come over to Jason’s tonight for band practise dude’, Billie Joe said, hugging Tre.
‘Oh god, they’ve turned bi’, Steph said, watching Billie Joe and Tre. They instantly broke away at the comment.
‘Come on, I think I heard the bell ring......I’ll see you at my place after school’, Steph said, aiming her words at Tre before she walked away.
‘See Tre. She’ll totally give in for it’, Billie Joe said smiling. Tre looked at him.
‘Yeah but what will I have to give to get her to?’, Tre asked gulping..
