A Day On The Green, chapter 9
‘So she’s gonna tell him, she’s got a thing for him?’, Mike asked confused with what had just been told to him. Billie Joe nodded his head enthusiastically.
‘Yeah, and then it will be perfect. Two punk teen’s inlove’, he said, dropping back onto the couch.
‘Maybe we should stop her’, Jason suggested. Billie Joe and Mike looked at him, both swapping expressions.
‘Why dude?’, Billie Joe asked, ‘This is perfect’.
‘Yeah perfect the way we see it, but maybe not perfect the way it will turn out. I don’t want my little sisters’ heart broken cos Tre still has his sights set on Laura’, Jason explained to them. Mike and Billie Joe started to settle down. They hadn’t thought on the rejection side of all this.
‘Fine then, we won’t tell Tre’s she’s writing a letter. We’ll just wait until she give it to him, then we’ll say who it’s from if it already doesn’t’, Billie Joe came to the conclusion.
‘Yeah that was no ones hurt’, Mike added.
‘Works for me’, Jason said, playing a small solo without having his guitar plugged in. As they finished the conversation Tre walked back in with a smile on his face.
‘What are you so happy about?’, Jason asked, watching the drummer take a seat behind his kit.
‘Nothing’, he said continuing to smile, ‘Your sister just called me cute’. Billie Joe, Mike and Jason swapped glances and looks all over again between eachother.
‘Why? Is there something I should know? I’m not part of a hoax am I?’, Tre asked, picking up his sticks.
The three other boys shook their heads.
‘No why would you be part of a hoax?’, Mike asked, picking up his bass guitar. Tre shrugged.
‘I don’t know. Is there something going on?’, he asked, trying to get to the bottom of their weird behaviour.
‘No, you know we’d tell you if there was’, Jason told him, plugging his amp lead in.
‘Alright then’, Tre finished the conversation with nothing of it, starting to drum away as he usually did.
-Sunday Afternoon as the guys are leaving-
‘So will I see you tomorrow night?’, Tre asked Steph loading part of his kit into the car. They started packing all the equipment away for the battle of the bands which was on at their school on Wednesday.
‘You might’, she said smiling sweetly at him watching the other boys bring their guitars and amps out.
Tre took her out-of-the-way to the side of the car facing the road and spoke to her alone.
‘Good, cos I’m looking forward to it’, he told her, picking up her hand as he started rubbing her fingers gently. Steph smiled even more and giggled a little.
‘Yeah, so am I’, she told him clapping his hands together so that she held both of them as she rubbed hers over them. Tre stepped forward, forcing Steph to step back against the car.
‘Great. Cos well I really like spending time with you and all. You’re gorgeous for helping me out with all of this’, he told her giving her a kiss on the cheek.
‘It’s alright’, she replied before they heard the sound of the boot of the car come down closing.
‘Tre dude, you ready to leave?’, Billie Joe asked, spinning the keys around in his hand. Tre looked over to him and nodded. He gave Steph a quick hug before he hopped into the car. Steph headed over to Billie Joe and Mike and hugged them both as well saying goodbye.
‘I’ll see you three tomorrow’, she said, front the drivers seat window. Billie Joe gave her a kiss on the cheek for no reason and started the car before driving off.
‘Dudette you are so twisted’, Jason said to his sister before they both walked into the house.
‘What’s that suppose to mean?’, she asked, locking the door behind them.
-In the Car-
Tre quickly fell asleep, spreading himself over the backseat while Mike and Billie Joe sat in the drivers and passengers.
‘What was that all about?’, Mike asked, referring to the kiss Billie Joe had given Steph.
‘What was what about?’, Billie Joe asked, not wanting to get into any discussion.
‘You know what I’m talking about dude, before’, Mike said obviously, making Billie Joe bite his lip.
‘Nothing, I was just having a little fun’, Billie Joe said, putting on the indicator to turn.
‘A little fun huh? Come on Billie Joe its more than that, tell me’, Mike said convincingly.
‘Seriously. It’s nothing alright. It shouldn’t have even happened’, he said turning the corner.
‘Well then why did it?’, Mike asked, going to get to the bottom of this.
‘Mikey I don’t know alright, I don’t know’, Billie Joe blurted out stopping at a set of lights.
‘Oh I get it. You’re using Tre for an excuse to get closer to Steph. That’s the reason you mentioned her in the first place. So when Tre gets Laura you have Steph to yourself’, Mike said having figured it out.
‘No I’m not’, Billie Joe said trying to change Mike’s mind.
‘Billie Joe for Steph, Billie Joe for Steph’, Mike chanted. Billie Joe looked over at him, before pushing down on the gas to drive forward.
‘I know the way Steph feels about Tre, and well I know that Tre feels something for her. I’m not going to ruin that’, Billie Joe told him, no concentrating more on the conversation than the road.
‘Who says you won’t’, Mike asked irreverently..
