Without You, chapter 12
As the Fire Engine tore down the boulevard people ran to witness the fire that was ripping through Billie Joe's apartment. No one could believe that this was how it would end for the famous singer. People screamed out, while others just stared as thick black smoke was escaping through the cracks in the windows. An explosion roared out of nowhere and fire broke free from the walls. Smoke built up, surrounding the by-standers in ash and debris.
The fire engine pulled up and soon people were ushered away from the sidewalk so they could get to work, but it was no use - he couldn't be saved. It had ended for the troubled punk rocker, his whole life he had wanted to play his music for people everywhere but no one was more important than Jemma, the girl he let get away too many times and she had killed herself because of him.
Police sirens were heard and no later were they helping people get away from the smoke and try to establish what had happened. The fire marshall had ordered three men to go inside the apartment while others tried to put the blaze out from the outside. The 3 brave firemen went inside the inferno and as soon as they reached the floor that was Billie Joe's they realised that he was surely dead - no one could survive that. They carried on along the smoke filled corridors trying to find his room. Through the gaps in the doorframe they saw an eerie orange glow coming from inside.
Outside the ladder on the engine was raised while officers were trying their hardest to put out the blaze. The ash filled smoke was too much for others as they choked on the fumes and tried to escape.
The men inside were finding it hard to breathe as the smoke was filling the corridor. They heard another explosion from inside the room, causing them to drop to the floor in a panic. One man shouted to the others, asking if they were alright, then he kicked open the door and the view inside wasn't what he expected...
Police officers were helping the firemen put out the fire but it was no use the flames kept get bigger. Another Fire Engine arrived and soon both were using all their hoses in a hope to put it out. More people had arrived and were soon asking what had happened and who was inside. On the news that it was Billie Joe Armstrong people dropped to the floor in shock or started crying, some even threw up.
As the men inside pushed their way inside the flame filled room, one saw the body of a person slumped over a wooden piece of furniture - it didn't even resemble a piano anymore- and ran over to them. Another man put an oxygen mask over his face - not realising he was dead, as they tried to carry him outside. They got to the top of the stairs when they collapsed; there was no other way out apart from another room out the window. Soon they were crawling through the window out onto the ledge where the ladder met them...
