Alcoholic Giggles Just Come With The Scene, chapter 1
Heavy rhythms and flawed vocals softly beat against her sensitive ears, vibrating through a set of headphones secured gently to her head. Bending down to the ground a little, she grabbed the side of her skateboard and skidding casually along the nearest metal wall. Her chocolate brown hair blew from side to side in messy school girl pigtails; softly complimented by thick kohl around her teasing eyes. She pushed her headphones from her ears and around her neck as voices began to break through her walls of sound.
"Hey princess, be careful you don't break a nail!" She brought herself to a steady stop and hooked her board under her arm.
"Funny, I would've thought you'd be more concerned about bursting your ego, or hitting that abnormally oversized head of yours!"
"Leave her alone, Nathan, she wasn't bothering you-" Nathan snapped to his feet and met her squarely in the eye. Had he not been so psyched up, he probably would've sensed her pounding heart and hiccuping breaths. She looked around the park dizzily, frantic to run as fast her legs could carry her. Her gaze was met by a young, messy looking student sat underneath the bridge, against old brickwork and soft grass. He was barely visible to the maddening eye of the public. In his hand was a notepad and pencil, and to his left was a thick textbook. He gave a gentle, concerned look and smiled softly, before looking back down to his book. As Nathan came ever closer, she found herself shaking violently, and was frantic to hide any traces of panic.
"I'm only here to skate, I'm not bothering you-" she stammered, unconsciously pawing at her chest and inhaling deeply.
"Show us what you can do, then," he jeered. She made another sharp, inward breath and dropped her board to the ground, before securing her feet firmly on both ends and pushing away. Relieved breaths escaped her panic ridden chest as she landed trick after trick, before she came to a steady stop at the top of the half pipe. Smiling back at the guys with a sweet sense of satisfaction, she held onto the railing to regain her breath. Her satisfaction was beginning to fade, and her face draining to grey...
"Can't- breathe-"
"You can come down now, princess!" they yelled, coming closer and locking onto her eyes hard.
"Can't- can't breathe-" Her grip loosened from the rail; her skin meeting slowly but surely with the cold kiss of the concrete and rough half pipe.
"Awwwhhh, she really has broken a nail now!" Nathan jeered. She heaved herself to her knees, before collapsing breathlessly.
"She's done more damage than breaking a nail!" echoed an angry voice. Soft arms gently lifted her upright, before heaving her against his chest and carrying her to the edge of the concrete. "Are-are you okay? Can you walk?" She shook her head dizzily, wheezing noisily and hiccuping on choking tears. "W-want to come and s-sit with me?" She nodded quietly and latched onto his neck, weeping frantically.
"I'm taking her to calm down with me," the voice said harshly. "Bastard. If you hadn't teased her so much she wouldn't be in agony-"
"Oh, for God's sake, Kai, no one forced her. You're just too damn sensitive sometimes. She's just a bit winded."
Jocelyn lifted her head weakly and met with Kai's deep, kohl rimmed eyes and reassuring smile.
"Why are you doing this?"
"Because those guys are bastards. And I've always been a sucker to help little damsels in distress."
"I'm not a damsel in distress," she interrupted suddenly. "I can take care of myself."
"I didn't say you couldn't, sweetheart, I meant that you didn't deserve to be pushed around like a rag doll by those bastards. Are you okay, you sound very wheezy? Can't you breathe?" She nodded weakly, trying to reassure him she was alright. "It's okay, it's okay... just sit down here, it's okay..." He eased her down onto the soft grass beneath the bridge, squeezing her hand gently and picking up a battered textbook. She suddenly buried her head in her hands, wheezing sharply and gasping noisily. "Oh God, sweetheart, what's wrong?" Jocelyn crawled into a tightly knit ball, nuzzling against Kai's lap. "I-I think you're hyperventilating! Don't panic, don't panic, I just need to find something from my bag..." He kept a soft hand on her back, stroking gently as he rummaged through his backpack. "I knew I had one somewhere," he smiled reassuringly, helping her to sit upright and gently holding a paper bag around her mouth. He rubbed her back softly to reassure her as she breathed noisily through the bag. "What's your name, sweetheart?"
"J-Jocelyn..." she breathed heavily, closing her eyes dizzily and slumping against the side of the bridge.
"I'm Kai." Kai gently eased Jocelyn's backpack from her shoulders and pushed it into the small of her back. "Feeling okay now?" She nodded quietly and softly rested her hands on her butterfly inhabited stomach. "Just take a few minutes to calm down, yeah?"
"Awwwhhh... you're sweet..."
