"Relax, I've Got You.", chapter 6
"Bored!" Billie Joe said while collapsing on the bed next to Kirsten. She chuckled while she tried to hug him but Disco was in the way.
"You guys seen Songbird?" Mike asked.
"She's going to mediate Mike," Kirsten said.
"Meditate?" Billie Joe and Mike asked in unison.
"Yeah, she likes to meditate, helps her relax a little bit," she nodded.
"Relax with what? This is probably the most laid back place in the state!" Billie Joe yelled.
"Billie calm down, you don't know the troubles in her life."
"Ok ok, but where is she? I just wanna know that," Mike said.
"Probably with Yeeyo somewhere in the cave ledge."
"Yeeyo?" Billie Joe asked.
"Yeeyo is an eagle that sits on the cave ledge with her everyday."
"Oh that explains a lot," Mike said sarcastically.
"What is with you guys today, it's like you're so concerned about something she does almost everyday, she needs to relax a little bit," Kirsten said.
"Where is the cave ledge?" Mike asked.
"Look towards the dusk and go away from it, there you will find the cave ledge."
Mike didn't quite understand it until he went outside and saw the dusk, then he turned around and saw a pair of wings stretching around, must be Songbird, I'll surprise her.
Where Yeeyo and Songbird are
Songbird sat with Yeeyo on the cave ledge as she let the warm sun shimmer on her face. The dusk was beautiful, so many colours. She looked at Yeeyo and smiled. He was just about ready to be able to breed with all of the other eagles and he was obviously nervous. She ran her pointer finger down his wings.
"Having wings is hard, same thing with talons, I wish for once, that I was normal," she said to herself.
"I wish that my parents were proud of me, that they didn't call me a monster. I feel like the only one who knows pain is Mike you know Yeeyo? Like someone would understand how much pain a person can go through like I have. I even wish fairy tales were real, that this knight in shining armour came and rescued me from all of my troubles, so I could just live happily ever after in peace."
"But when well you know when that knight comes? When he wants a princess to save so he too, can live happily ever after, in peace for the rest of his life?" she heard a voice say behind her. She twisted her head around to see Mike stand there; she leaned against the wall and took a deep breath. She signalled Mike over by moving the edge of her wing. He moved closer and sat down with Songbird's wing curled around him. It was a little weird at first but then he felt how soft her feathers were and how warm they were.
"So what kind of bird are you supposed to be?" he asked her.
"I'm supposed to be half swan half eagle, swan feathers with eagle talons."
"Cool."
"Very."
"Let's go on a road trip."
"What?" she laughed.
"Yeah, on Easter break, it'll be fun!"
"Did you just now think of this?"
"No actually, I've thought about it for a while, but wouldn't you just love to just go on the open road every once in a while?"
"I have the open skies, but even them I'm tortured to hide."
"Listen, I know what it's like ok?"
"No you don't Mike, you don't. My wings are my curse, I can fly anytime I wanted to with the gift but I get wings instead."
"Because you're my fallen angel."
"Awww, you're too sweet."
"Know this, whenever you fall again, I'll be ready and willing to pick you up."
She smiled at Mike while pulling him closer to her with her wings.
"Look at the stars Mike, aren't they beautiful?" she awed.
"They are, but not as beautiful as you."
"My brother and I used to always look at the patterns in the stars."
"What happened to your brother?"
"We was murdered because he had the gift too, we used to come up here everyday, and just look at the stars, no words could explain how happy I felt whenever I was with my brother, looking at the stars."
"Wow, that's really something."
"I loved my brother and he told me something special, something I'll never forget."
"And what was that?"
flashback
"Songbird, what's wrong?"
"I just wish that I was normal for a change, that mom and dad were proud of me for once."
"Birdie listen to me, our mom and dad don't matter now, no one does, this is our stargazing time, just look at the stars, and look at them closely."
Songbird looked up and saw the stars, they were all shining brightly, but there was one that twinkling the brightest, the North Star.
"She beautiful huh?" he asked her.
"So beautiful."
"Listen to this, and listen closely, the great people of our past look at us from those stars, just as Whirlie looks down on me, and when one day, I will look down on you."
"Don't say that bro, you won't die while you're young," she reassured him.
"Just remember Birdie, whenever you lost in the world, or when you need some protection, and I am no longer with you, just pick out a star, and remember me, and I will be there to guide you and protect you."
end flashback
"Wow, he must've really loved you," Mike said to her.
"He still loves me, he's here, right now."
Mike just looked at her when a sudden gust of wind overtook Songbird and lifted her up. She smiled and laughed.
"I love you too big brother."
"You guys seen Songbird?" Mike asked.
