Ha ha, you're dead!, chapter 11
The stars where shining really bright. I sat outside on our front porch just watching the stars and thinking of Cara, when suddenly Billie burst out of his front door. He smiled.
"I've written a song, Maria. And I think it's really good!" He gave me a piece of paper and ordered me to read it.
"2000 light years away," I read out loud. His song was really good.
"I like it!" I murmured and gave him the song back.
"Billie? Was it true what you said about the cops being after you? Or did you just want to upset me?" I asked and looked at him.
"It was true. They were after me, I don't know if they still are but..." he said and looked up. And ironically, a police car drove up in Billie's driveway.
Billie got this terrified look on his face and begged me to hide him. I told him to run around my house and as far away as he could get. He gave me a quick hug and ran away faster than lighting. At least it seemed so. A man stepped out of the police car and went over and knocked on Billie's front door. Nobody answered.
"Do you know the people that live here?" said the police officer. I nodded. He stepped over to me and asked me where they were. I said I didn't know. My heart was pounding in my chest. I hoped Billie got to a place where it was safe to hide out. "Hmm....we're looking for Billie Joe Armstrong. He's about your age!" said an other police officer that stepped out of the car.
"Yeah, he goes to my school!" I said. No point in lying about that. They could find out that anyway.
"Do you know a Jim Thomsen?" I thought about that a bit and figured that must be Jim stuck in the hospital. I nodded.
"Do you know that he was in the hospital?" I nodded again and felt my throat getting dry. "Do you know that your boyfriend, Billie Joe, is the reason for that?" he asked again. I shook my head.
"It can't be him! And he's not..."
"Oh don't play dumb with me girl! We've asked your school who he hangs around with!" The officer yelled at me.
"I think you should come down to the station!" the other one said and tried to take my hand and pull me towards the car.
I shook my head again and ran as fast as I could in the direction Billie had ran away. I didn't think of how stupid it was. I was leading the cops right to Billie. I could hear them, right behind me.
"COME BACK HERE!" one of them yelled. They were right around the corner of the house behind me. Why couldn't police officers look like chief Wiggum from Simpsons. Suddenly I spotted Billie in a bush. He looked really scared.
"Hide!" I whispered to him.
"Not if you're not in safety!" He said and started running next to me.
I don't know how long we ran. It seemed like forever, but it was probably just five minutes or so. When I was sure the cops weren't after us anymore I stopped and tried to catch my breath. Billie also stopped. He looked around very carefully.
"I don't think they're after us anymore!" he said and leaned towards a fence. I sat down on the ground with my head in my hands.
"What are we going to do now? We're on the run from the police! They're bound to find us sooner or later!" I said and looked at Billie with teary eyes.
"Relax!" Billie demanded and looked at a sign. I couldn't see what it said.
"I think it's in this area Adrienne lives!" he said and started walking up the road. "Billie! Hey Billie, wait!" I said and tried to catch up with him. "Billie, do you really think this is a good idea? What if some of the cops have been there?"
He didn't answer. Just walked up towards a red house.
"Here it is!" Billie said, excited.
"Yeah, okay! So what are you going to do? Knock? It's the middle of the night Billie!" I said, angry. But again, he wouldn't listen. He walked around the house.
"I think this is her room!" he said and pointed at a window. He looked inside it. "Yes! This is her room! There she is!" I also looked inside and saw Adrienne changing her clothes.
"Knock now, before she thinks you're some pervert and call her parents!" I said and Billie knocked on the window.
"Adrienne? Adie? It's me, Billie!" he said. Adrienne walked towards the window and opened it.
"What are you guys doing here! It's the middle of the night!" Adie said and looked at us.
"I...I...I just...wanted...to...see you!" Billie said and kissed her on the cheek.
"LIAR!" I said and told Adrienne that the cops were after us because they thought Billie had beat up some guy at our school.
"Well, did you?" Adie asked and looked at Billie. He looked confused.
"Did you beat up that guy?" she asked again. Billie looked down.
"I.....I.....well...." he said and Adrienne got a scared look on her face.
"What? You did?" she said and backed away from the window. I grabbed her arm and held her back.
"But it's just because Jim kissed me!" I said and told her the whole story in details. It helped a bit.
"So what are you going to do now?" she asked.
"I don't know...hide I guess!" Billie said. "Oh, we need to talk to Mike! Here's his number! Call him and ask him to meet us in the alley behind the bar! ASAP!" Billie said and gave Adie a piece of paper. "Please!" She nodded and kissed Billie. It was a long kiss. I blushed and turned away.
"I'll be back!" Billie said and ran over to me. We waved goodbye and ran away.
"So what is your plan Billie Joe?" I asked him while we were waiting for Mike in the alley. It was the middle of the night and I was freezing my ass off!
"First we're getting some more clothes. But Mike has to buy them, and then we'll find some place to hide!" he said and sat down on the ground.
"Why can't you just tell the truth? What's the worst that could happen?" I smiled.
"Are you stupid?" Billie yelled. "I'll get thrown in jail! How the hell is the band supposed to get any good if the guitarist is in jail?"
Was that all he was worried about? The band? I was about to give him a sarcastic comment, but suddenly Mike showed up.
"The cops are after you! They were at my house! You can't hide forever," Mike said. "And why the hell are you here?" he said and looked at me.
"I panicked and ran from the cops so they know I know," I said easily.
"Okay so what I need you to do is buy some clothes for us, so we can sort of go amongst normal people!" Billie said. And gave Mike a list of other things he needed to buy for us.
"Hoodies would be great! And maybe some sort of hat?" I said and smiled. Mike nodded and gave both of us a hug.
"I'll meet you here tomorrow!"
"Maria? If I'd have to be on the run with somebody I'm glad it was you, and nobody else!" Billie whispered as he sat down next to me on the ground.
"But you would rather like it to be Adrienne, right?" I said. I couldn't help, but feeling jealous. I know I had no reason. But it was weird seeing Billie kiss somebody else. Somebody else that wasn't me.
"What's that supposed to mean?" he said and looked at me.
"No...nothing! Let's get some sleep!" I said and leaned my head towards the wall and fell asleep before Billie got to ask the same question again.
