Reagan? Weird name for a girl., chapter 16

Three Weeks Later

Tre and Reagan are together, although Reagan and Billie are still friends.
"Tre, come on. It's my turn." Billie complained.
"You sound like a little kid, BJ. Besides, I'm almost done with this level. Then you can have it." Tre said, eyes still glued to the television.
"Yeah, you said that already. Three hours ago!"
"One more level, I promise." Billie rolled his eyes and went upstairs to play guitar.
"Hey, Tre." Reagan said, coming through the kitchen. She took off her coat and hung it in the closet.
"Hey." Tre said, not looking away from the TV.
"Where is everyone?"
"Uh, Billie's upstairs and Mike's at Katie's house."
"Oh."
"And Nikki called like half an hour ago. She sounded kind of upset."
"Really?"
"Yeah. Listen, I miss my dog. Can we go get her later?" She lifted an eyebrow.
"Your dog?"
"Yeah. You know, Amber, the big black adorable, loves to give kisses-"
"I know, but since when is she yours?"
"Since we became bestest friends in the whole wide world!" He squealed in a five- year olds voice. Reagan laughed.
"Ok then. I'm going to go call my sister." She ran upstairs into Tre's room to use his phone. She dialled and waited for an answer.
"Hello?" Nikki answered.
"Hey, Nikki. What's wrong?" Reagan could hear her sister crying.
"I'm sorry. It's my entire fault. Its just there was this boy right-?" She said hysterically.
"Whoa, Nikki. What's all your fault?"
"Well, Amber and I went walking.... There was this really hot guy. And I went up to say hi, right?"
"Ok..."
"And then I totally forgot about Amber and the leash accidentally slipped and there was this huge truck coming and I'm so sorry!!!"
"Are you saying she's-"
"I'm SORRY! Tre's going to kill me! I didn't mean to, honest!" Nikki was talking very fast and it was difficult to understand her. Tears formed in Reagan's eyes.
"I know you didn't mean to, Nikki. Where is she now?" She looked at the ground, and noticed a big dog bed lying on the floor right next to Tre's bed. She then remembered all those nights when the dog would forget about her bed and join Tre on his.
"Reagan? Are you still there?"
"Huh? Yeah, I'm here." She tried not to burst out crying.
"Well, Amber's in the back of the truck. It's a little creepy, actually-" Nikki was crying uncontrollably.
"Nikki?"
"Yeah."
"Calm down. I'll be there in a second." And she hung up. "What am I going to tell Tre?" She whispered. She helped herself to one of Tre's sweatshirts and slowly walked downstairs. She found Tre on the couch, putting his shoes on.
"Oh, hi." He said, noticing her walking into the living room. "Ok, I'm ready. Ooo, I can't wait! I got her this way sweet water thingy. I can't wait until the pool thaws and we can play in it! And I got her this treat thing and-"
"Tre?" Reagan whispered, tears rolling down her cheeks.
"What? What's wrong?"
"Amber can't come back with us."
"Why not? What are you saying?" He knew what she was saying, he just didn't want it to be true. Tears formed in his eyes. "Reagan? What happened?" Reagan grabbed him and held him. But he tore away. "No! What happened?" He demanded.
"Tre, she-"
"She what?"
"She got hit by a-"
"No she didn't! Not Amber! It must have been some other dog that looked like her. She's fine. Let's go get her." Tre tugged at her sleeve. "Come on. Let's go get her." Reagan didn't move.
"Tre, come on. She's-"
"Don't even say it!" Tre yelled, tears streaming down his face. "Don't even say the "D" word! Now come on, she's fine. Let's go get her. Reagan, come on. It's not true."
"Tre, it is true." Tre flopped to the floor.
"But, the toys and the bed and the... and the..." His lower lip quivered and he looked at the ground. "And the kisses and...." He said quietly. "And the love... and the fun.... and the kisses..." He looked up at Reagan. "Why?"
"Tre, come here." Reagan pulled him up and sat him on the couch. "It was an accident, Tre. Nikki just-"
"Nikki? Nikki did it?"
"No! Tre, Amber got away from her. She's a big dog, and the big truck and....." Tre just stared at his shoes. "Tre, I'm so sorry."
"Don't be." He said, standing up. "She was just a dumb dog." He cried. He ran upstairs and slammed his bedroom door. Reagan got up and ran after him. She quietly opened the door. Tre opened his bedroom widow. "FUCK IT!" He cried. "Fuck the damn dog! Fuck this fucking bed!" He picked up the bed and tossed it out the window. "Fuck the picture." He took his favourite picture of him and Amber and threw it out the widow after the bed. "Fuck all this shit." He tossed everything that belonged to the dog out the window. "FUCK YOU, AMBER! FUCK YOU!" He screamed out the window. Billie came running in the room.
"What happened?" Reagan ignored him and tried to calm Tre down.
"Tre. Come on, baby." Tre whirled around and glared at her, his face glistening with tears.
"Don't "Come on, baby" me! Fuck you, fuck Billie, and FUCK THE DAMN DOG! Now get the FUCK OUTTA HERE!"
"Tre, don't say that." Reagan's face was wet with tears.
"What did I just say? Get the hell outta here! NOW!" He collapsed to the floor. Reagan threw herself down next to him.
"Tre. I'm sorry." He pushed her away.
"Just go away." He said quietly. Reagan stood up and left without saying a word to Tre or Billie.
