Reagan? Weird name for a girl., chapter 2
Billie, Mike, and Tre loaded the bus after a long day of school. They spotted Reagan sitting by Josh towords the back of the bus. Tre plopped himself down in front of Reagan, Billie and Mike sitting beside him. She welcomed them with a smile. Billie returned the smile. Her cell phone rang, causing Tre to jump. "Sorry, Tre." She said, laughing. "H'lo? Hi mom. What?! No, wait until we get there." She looked at Josh, a look of panic on her face. Josh grabbed the phone from her. "Mom? No! Not until we can- Hello? Mom? MOM! Aw, fuck she hung up on me." He punched the seat, and threw Reagan her phone back. She stared out the window, tears running down her face. "What's wrong?" Billie asked, looking worried. She shook her head. "Nothing." She wiped the tears from her face. "Family problems. It's my sister." Billie nodded. "You still up for my house?" She smiled. "Of course." He smiled back and sat back in his seat.
They unloaded the bus and trudged down the street. They were silent except for Tre, who was shivering. "Aaare wwwe almmmost thhhhere?" He asked, his teeth chattering. Billie nodded, laughing. "Aww, what's a matter, California? Can't stand a little cold weather?" Reagan asked. Mike smirked at her. Tre shot her a look. "Ssshut up, Rrreagan. Iiit's fffucking fffreezing out hhhere." Billie chuckled. "Y'know she's right, Tre. You're a baby. Come on, man. It's not that cold." He looked at Billie disbelievingly. "WHAT?! Billie, there's fucking SNOW on the ground!" Billie shrugged. "So? Just gives me a chance to do THIS!" He picked up some snow and packed it together. He aimed, and hit Tre square in the nose. "OW!! FUCK YOU, BILLIE JOE ARMSTRONG!!" Reagan, Mike, and Josh fell on the ground into a fit of laughter. "Tre.... you.... you are SUCH an... idiot!" Mike said, still laughing hysterically. Reagan and Josh nodded in agreement. Tre truged on, ignoring everyone. Reagan stopped laughing and silently ran up to him. She wrapped her arms around his neck and tackeled him to the ground. "HA! How do you like the snow now, Tre?" Tre immediatley got up, looking horrified. "WHAT THE FUCK DID YOU DO THAT FOR?!" He shivered violently. Reagan remained on the ground, laughing harder still. "Sorry, dude. Couldn't resist!" The others caught up to them, laughing still. "Good one." Mike said, hi fiving Reagan. Tre looked miserable. "Awwww, I'm sorry Tre. I didn't know you could get this cold so fast." She hugged him and rubbed his shoulders to warm him up. He held her tightly, his teeth chattering. His lips were blue. Reagan got really worried. "Are you ok?" He nodded, hugging her tightly still. She looked at Billie, who also looked scared. "Here, wear my gloves, and my hat. There." He wore the warm winter clothes, but still shook violently.
They reached Billie's house. Reagan immediatley took Tre inside, plopped him on the couch and went to fetch some blankets. "Dude, are you sure you're ok?" Mike asked, sitting next to Tre. Tre nodded. His lips were now purple, and his fingernails were light blue. Reagan rushed back, holding a blanket and a pillow. She took off his damp jacket, his wet hat and mittens. She wrapped the blanket around him and laid him on the pillow. "Stay here, talk to Mike. I want to make sure you don't have hypothermia." She looked at Mike. "Keep him talking. I'm gonna go call a doctor and make him some hot chocolate." Tre looked up at her. "Nnnnoo, Rrreagan. Iiii'm fffine, rrrealllly." He started shivering more violently. "Tre, you're not fine. You need to get warm." She rushed into the kitchen.
Billie and Josh were in the kitchen, talking about something. They noticed her rush into the kitchen. "How is he?" Billie asked, looking horrified. "I don't know yet. He's still able to talk a little. I'm calling a doctor." She grabbed the phone and searched through the cupboards for hot chocolate. She was successful in finding the chocolate and reaching the doctor. "The doc will be here in ten minutes. Oh, I hope he's ok, I feel terrible." She hurried into the living room, where Tre and Mike were talking about the weather. "Ddddon't yyyou wwwish it wwwas sssunny, Miiikey?" Tre asked. Mike nodded. They noticed her come in, Tre sat up. "How's it going?" She asked, sitting next to him and hugging him. He sipped his hot beverage, which was difficult because he was still shivering. Badly. "Oh, Tre. I'm so sorry. I feel awful. Is there anything else you need? The doctor will be here soon." He smiled and shook his head. She held him tight. He set the drink down and blew into his hands. He hugged her tight. She let him go, heading back into the kitchen. Billie saw her come in and got up. "Is he gonna be ok?" Reagan looked worried. "I don't know. He shouldn't be shivering this much this long. He can still talk, though. So it can't be too serious."
The doorbell rang, Billie answered it. "Oh. Thank god. He's right in here, doc." Billie led the doctor to the living room. Tre was still shivering. "How long has he been shivering?" The doctor asked, gently un wrapping the blanket. "Oh, about half hour, fourty minutes." Reagan said, worried. The doctor looked at his hands and feet. They turned purple. "Well, he does have hypothermia, but it's not severe. I suggest you put his hands and feet under a very warm blanket and have him keep drinking hot beverages. He'll be fine." They all sighed with relief. Reagan showed the doctor to the door and joined the group in the living room. She noticed his mug of hot chocolate was empty. "I'll go re-fill it." She went back into the kitchen, Billie followed.
They were silent in the kitchen. Billie felt awkward. "Uh, Josh told me. About your sister, I mean." Reagan stopped briefly, and then continued hurrying around the kitchen, making Tre his hot chocolate. "What.... What happened?" Billie asked, uncomfortably. She sighed deeply and stopped what she was doing. "She just.... She died in a car accident. This one guy was driving in front of her. He was drunk, and he hit a light pole. It fell on top of her, killing her instantly." She said shortly. "I don't really want to talk about it right now." Billie slapped his head. "Stupid, stupid, stupid." He said under his breath. "Reagan, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to..." She stopped him. "It's fine, Billie. I shouldn't have exploded at you. I'm just stressed. We have to fly to California next week and discuss funeral arrangements." She put her elbows on the table and put her head in her hands. Billie went over to her and hugged her. "I know it's hard. I didn't like doing it with my dad, either." She looked at him. "Your dad died?" She asked quietly. He nodded. "Yeah. Lung cancer." She hugged him back. "I'm sorry." She whispered. He looked at her, a soft expression on his face. He kissed her softly. "Don't worry about it." She smiled and kissed him back. "Reagan! Tre needs his chocolate!" Mike shouted. Reagan laughed and looked at Billie. "We've got other things to worry about." Billie chuckled. "Yeah, we do."
