Reagan? Weird name for a girl., chapter 5

Billie woke up empty- handed. He looked around the room, and then to his alarm clock. 9 am. Damn, it was early. He heard light music and laughing voices behind his closed door. He decided to investigate. He stumbled into the kitchen, squinting from the bright light. "Oh, hi honey." It was his mom. She was sitting at the counter talking and laughing with Reagan. "Hey." He said tiredly. He rubbed his eyes and stretched. "Something smells really good." He said. "Oh, yeah. Reagan's making us breakfast." He looked over at Reagan, she was singing and swaying to the music. God, he loved her voice. "It's a little early, mom, don't you think?" His mom snorted. "Oh, no. We've been having a great time talking and laughing. I was just telling her about when you were three. You had the cutest little-" "OK! Thank you, mother dear." Billie exclaimed. Reagan laughed. "Aw, come on. I like hearing your little baby stories." She pinched Billie's cheek and giggled. He swatted her hand away and laughed. "Yeah, well, can't wait to meet your parents and hear your baby stories." She looked at him in horror. "NO! I mean- no.... No need. They're boring stories anyway." Billie smiled at her. "I bet not." Reagan returned the smile and turned back to breakfast.

"Well, Tre probably won't be up until 3 or so. Mike and Josh are sleeping, too. So what's on your agenda today, Billie?" Billie shrugged. "Dunno. Maybe take a look around, go Christmas shopping. Something like that." His mom smiled. "Good. You can take your girlfriend with you." She smiled over at Reagan. "Yeah, it'll be fun." She said, returning her smile. Billie laughed. "I'm glad you're getting along." He plopped himself down next to his mom and turned the radio until he found the station he wanted. "Hey! I was listening to that!" Reagan said, grabbing the radio from Billie. "Yeah, well, Train can wait. Nobody likes them anyway." He snatched the radio back and fiddled with the dial. "Ah, Ozzy. Here's some music. No lovey dovey Train songs. Real rock n' roll." Reagan shot him a look. "I'm gonna pretend you didn't say that. Besides, have you forgotten who's making breakfast?" She pulled the radio back and turned it to her station. "Ooo! I love this song!" She grabbed Billie and pulled him up from his stool. She sang and danced with him. Billie laughed and joined in. "Would you believe me if I said my head is spinning without you? I just wanna let you know how I feel about you!" She sang along beautifully with the radio and she and Billie danced and twirled around the kitchen. "Would you believe me? I just gotta let you know I can't live without you!"

The song ended, and they collapsed on the floor laughing. "I don't think I've seen my son have that much fun in a long time." Billie's mom said. "Ah, I love that song." Reagan said. Then her cell rang and she ran to grab it. Billie snatched some bacon from the plate when out of nowhere Reagan slapped his hand. He yelped and dropped the bacon. She laughed. Then she abruptly stopped. She looked at Billie with a worried expression on her face. Billie could hear an anxious voice on the other end. Reagan's expression immediately turned to relief. "Oh, Julianne. I was afraid you were-" Then she looked at the floor. "Yeah. I know Julianne, but I can't I have to- You do? Augh, not again! Well, I'll meet you at Perkins in half an hour. No, I'll bring Billie with me. He's my- never mind. Yeah. Alright. Bye." She sighed deeply. "Billie, we have to stop somewhere before we go shopping." She went back into his room and quickly dressed. Billie gaped at his mother. She shrugged. He went into his bedroom. "Is everything alright, babe?" Reagan was looking through her bag. She looked up at him and nodded. "Yeah. I just have to meet Julianne in a little bit. I'm sorry I just assumed you were coming along. If you don't want to go-" Billie kissed her so she would stop talking. "Of course I'll come, dear." He said in a goofy southern voice. She smiled faintly. "Thanks. Julianne would love to meet you. She's a lot of fun. She's going through a tough time right now so..." She trailed off.

Billie and Reagan got into the car and started down the driveway. "Thanks again Mrs. A!" Reagan shouted out the window. "Anytime, hun! And call me Ollie!" She shouted back and waved. Reagan smiled and they pulled out of the driveway. Billie, who was in the passenger seat, closed his eyes. "You didn't have to come, you know, you could have stayed and slept in." He opened one of his tired eyes. "Naw, I'm fine. I need time out of the house and see the new town." He closed his eye and laid back in his seat.
