Locked in the Attic. (Joey and Jakob), chapter 2
The boys woke the next morning to the sun straeming in to the room. Joey woke up first. He rubbed his eyes and smelt a funny smell. He thought, "What is that god awful smell? "Then he realised the room was different. He kicked Jakob and he moaned. "Ouch! What was that for?" Jakob said. Joey replied, "The rooms changed. "Jakob looked around and suddenly got scared again.
He said, "Oh god Joey, where are we?" Joey said, "Well, not where I thought we were. I think we had better get up." They boys got up and stretched and looked at the window. It had bars on. The gave each other one of those 'I think we are in trouble' looks, and went towards the door. Jakob troed to open it but it wouldn't. It was locked. How do we get out they thought?
Well Joey sat back down on the bed and Jaob said, "I feel sick." Joey replied, "Me too. I wonder if we ate something funny last night." Jakob said slowly, "Or put something in the food..." There was silence and the door downstairs opened.
The boys listened to hear what was going on and they heard footsteps. The door clicked and the latch moved and the door opened. Mrs Kimberley met the boys. She gave them the breakfast and told them to eat it quickly as she had to go out. The boys looked at each other. Jakob was too hungry to care and tucked into toast and cereal. Joey only ate dried toast. He had some water but not much.
He was thinking it when Jakob said it, " We arn't getting out of here are we? " Joey looked at Jakob and said, " Maybe not. We need to see if there is any loose bits anywhere in the room that we can get out of. The skylight was pretty high up and JOey was trying to decide a way to get up there.
If only he could reach the latch..
Meanwhile..
Adrienne and Billie were frantic with worry. Billie had been everywhere and Adrienne had rung all of the school friends that the boys had t see if they were round their houses but they weren't. Billie didn't know what to do. He sighed and sat down crying. " I don't know what to do. Where are they? We should've followed them.
"Oh god, I just want my boys back." Billie said. Adrienne was in tears too sat beside him. She was so worried. But then Billie had an idea. He and Adrienne got in the car and drove to a remote place called Devils Lair. It was really spooky and the lady that lived there was said to be extreme alternative. She had 10 years ago locked 2 girls, sisters, in the attic of the house and left them there to die. This was worrying Billie as the boys did venture that way.
Meanwhile..
Joey had manged, with the help of Jakob, to stack a few books and hard objects he had found in the attic and piled them pretty high. Mrs Kimberly had gone out so the boys were working as fast as they could to get out. Eventually after a few hours they had managed to reach the skylight. Joey found a screwdriver in one of the drawers and was trying earnestly to jam open the window.
Finally the window budged and it swung open. Joey said to Jakob, " I'm going to see if thereis a way down ok? " Jakob said, " Don't be long I wanna get out. " Joey climbed up carefully and climbed out. He was scouting rund on the roof for an escape route when he saw Mrs Kimberly come back. He quickly beconed Jakob up and Jakob climb slowly. He reached the top of the pile and climbed out. They both found an old ladder and helped each other down.
They ran as fast as their legs could carry them and climbed over the wall to get to the road. They had reached a crossroads, when they saw another car. The car drove straight passed and didn't stop. The boys were so tired they read the signpost and it said 'this way to the town centre>>>'. So they walk really slowly and finally made it to the town.
They walk to the store and bought a drink each with the money that Jakob had aquired in one of the draws, and they drank it all straight down. The boys were just about to cross the stree when they spotted their Mum up the road. They screamed at the tops of their voices and ran towards her. She ran down the street at them too and they hugged and Billie came a few seconds after. They were so happy. Jakob said, " Mrs Kimberly tried to kill us and we are better than that and we escaped. AND, well she's a bit stinky!" They all laughed at Jakob and decide to go for a walk altogether.
