2,000 Light Years Away, chapter 1

"Hey! Wait up!"
The handsome, punk boy spun around to see Mike and Mike's girl friend jogging after him.
He jealously eyed the tall blonde boy who was holding hands with the beautiful girl of his dreams. The girl he had been eyeing since 7th grade.

He painfully stared down at the teen's fingers that were laced together as they ran across the halls, hand in hand.
"Hey, Billie. Why'd you leave us again?" Roxy asked rasining one eyebrow.

Roxana Wards looked stunning as usual today. Her black hair with one single red streak on one of her bangs hung over one of her pale eyes with heavy eye-liner, and her lips were plump and redish. She was wearing a tight, black teeshirt, and dragging, ripped jeans along with old converse and a skull necklace Billie had giver her for her 15th birthday.

Billie Joe looked down at his own dirty, faded black converse that were almost identical to her's.
"I dunno." he mumbled.
His magnificent green eyes met Roxy's ocean blue ones as he looked up. He could tell by the look in her eyes that she did know why Billie Joe walked away from his two best friends. It was because ever since Mike Dirnt and Roxana started dating one month ago, he became very jealous when he saw the two together. So he'd just walk away and try not to think about what the couple could be doing together.

Don't get me wrong, Mike and Billie were best friends. Ever since elementary school. The two boys were very close. They were always at either at Mike's or Billie's house listening to music since they had the same excellent taste, or writing songs with each other. The two boys had big plans to form a punk rock band. Mike played bass, and Billie Joe played sick guitar. They were both fast learners, and had much talent. Best of all, the two boys had a voice. They couldn't sing as well as they could rock, but they we're getting the hang of vocals. Anyways, Billie Joe was happy for Mike and Roxy's successful relationship. But it still pained him to see the two together like this. He longed to have someone special like that. He longed to have Roxy.

Roxy slipped her hand out of Mike's. Mike glanced down at his empty hand wondering why Roxy had let go.

"How was 6th period?" Roxy asked Billie, trying to break the silence as the three buddies walked down the empty halls. The three were listening closely for the last bell to ring, signaling Friday's cherished freedom. This bell was the sweet sound of the weekend. The halls were like a ghost town right now. It was two minutes before the bell, and these kids had the skills to sneak out to get a head start home.

"I got fuckin suspended for 4 days." Billie spat.
"What the fuck, BJ?", Mike yelled, stunned.

"Again? What's wrong with Mrs. Rosemary? She on fuckin twenty-four-seven PMS or something? That bitch is always on your back!"

"Yeah,I know! I've fucking had it with her! I've gotten 4 detentions this week, two last week. And now a four day suspension! I swear, my mom's gonna kill me! I might as well drop out of school!"

Roxy frowned. Mike and Roxy cared about Billie Joe alot. And there was no point in going to school when Billie wasn't there. He was the life of the party. Face it, weekdays were crappy without that kid.
Billie Joe was never attentive. He was usually moved to the back of the calss, and spent most of his time writing songs and guitar parts for them back there in a run-down, lopsided desk. Or carving Roxy's name into the table top.

"Don't say that!" Roxy snapped.
"I don't want you to drop out and end up on the streets like Melanie."

"Melanie is a fucking whore! She's pregnant again, has no job, her boyfriend that made her pregnant ditched her, and she has no home. Hopefully I'm not pregnant. If I'm not, maybe things on the streets will be better for me."

Melanie was Billie Joe's 21 year old step cousin who he hated. She drank all the time, and was a huge slut. Once Billie Joe's mom kicked him out of the house. Melanie lived a few block's down with her, now ex boy friend, Dino. Billie knocked on her door and asked if he could spend the night. That lazy bum dressed in a slutty night gown and slippers told him to "Fuck off and go home." Billie was surprised! His on cousin just rejected him! Mike wasn't home that night either. Nor was Roxy. She was at her big sister's. So Billie ended up falling asleep on Mike's front lawn. And woke up with grass and dirt in his hair and a plastic lawn flamingo in his face.

Mike chuckled. Roxy smiled.
"For all we know, you could be pregnant, you slut." Roxy said through a grin, pushing Billie on the shoulder, playfully.

The bell sounded through the halls, as a stampeded of kids flooded out of every class room, running for the double doors.
Roxy, Mike, and Billie broke into a run, trying to get out of the school as fast as they could before kids blocked the door way. It was a total chaotic traffic jam on Fridays. No doubt about that.

The three made it out of the school and headed down the side walk home. Mike slipped his fingers through Roxy's again.

"So....... do you wanna do something today?" Mike said with a grin as he ogled at Roxy.

Billie sighed and walked faster, so the two love birds could be alone for awhile. Besides the fact that he was jealous about Mike and Roxy being boyfriend and girlfriend, he was also upset that this whole situation left him out. It always used to be Billie, Mike, and Roxy. Now it was Mike and Roxy....... and Billie. Billie far far away from Mike and Roxy. Now they were sort of split up, and had grown uncomfortable. They no longer felt like the three amigos.

Billie Joe wiped dark, curly strands of his sweaty hair away from his eyes as he kept up his fast pase down the cracked streets, pulling his backpack strap farther up his shoulder. He turned around to see how far back Roxy and Mike were. Mike had Roxy in his arms, lips against lips. One of Roxy's hands was behind Mike's neck, and the other one was in Mike's free hand.

Billie turned back around.
"Geeze, you guys are slow. What's taking so long? " Billie joked, "I think I heard some moaning back there. What's going on?"

He turned back around. The two had quickly got off each other and were now caching back up to him.

It was late April, and the sun was beating down on the teens who were sweating like dogs. The kids turned down a street into a crowded neighborhood full of little kids on 3 wheelers, scraping their knees up on the streets. The houses were pretty shitty, and almost each one yard was flodded with creepy lawn decorations such as gnomes, and Mike's mom's favorite, lawn flamingos by the hundreds. The other lawns were covered in water and mushy grass do to sprinklers that were too big and left on too long.

Lucky Mike's house was closest to the school, so he got air conditioning first. Billie lived just 7 houses away.
Mike gave Roxy a quick kiss goodbye, Billie Joe a pat on the back, and walked up his driveway.

"You guys wanna come in?"
Roxy looked at Billie.
She did that weird thing again that made it seem as if she was reading his mind. The feeling that made it seem as if she was looking right through his brain. It was creepy, but kinda cool. Billie thought it was just a girl thing. But then again, he had never met a girl who was so good at this as Roxy was.

"No. That's okay. My mom's friend is coming over and she needs me to help make dinner. And Billie is walking me home. " Roxy said cleverly pushing her elbow into Billie's ribs.

"Yeah. So we'll see you later, Mike." Billie added.

"Ok. Tell your mom I said hi." Mike said.
They all waved goodbye, then continued down the street.

"So............... you wanted to talk to me?" Roxy said.
"You're so fucking good at this." Billie smiled.
"Yeah. I know."
"Well. It feels so weird having you and Mike together. I feel so..... so excluded."
Roxy put her arm around Billie, and he put his arm around her waist.
"I understand. And I know you're a bit jealous too."
A bit jealous? A bit? Woah! More then a bit! Billie thought to himself.
"Yeah. I am sort of jealous."
There was a long silence. Well, not exactly. The two walked past a Chinese food store. The sound of a barking dog could be heard. It sounded as if it was being tortured. Or just chopped up into sushi..... same thing.

"Uhm. I have something I need to get off my chest. And you're like my best friend. But this is about Mike. And I don't really wanna tell you. I don't think you'd understand."

"About Mike? Well, Mike is my best friend. You can tell me. I'll understand."
The two stopped walking, and stood of the middle of the sidewalk for a moment.
"Well.... see.... I. I-I think I'm in..... love with Mike." Roxy said shyly.
Billie Joe felt every inch of himself just sink into the ground. He felt like his whole body was just melting into the cement.

"Oh...... Well, uhm, what's not to understand?" Billie asked.
"Wel........I don't think you understand what it's like to be in love." Roxy said with a shrug.
At that moment, Billie felt like his rib cage had collapsed.
"Just shut up." he mumbled continuing to walk.
"What? What's the matter."
Billie stopped again, making Roxy nearly bump right into him. He was face to face to her. His expression upset and hurt. His hands were on both her shoulders. He looked like he was about to punch her. But he would never even think about doing such a thing to harm her.

"Don't tell me that I don't understand what it's like to be in love." he growled, coldly,
He turned around, and they continued the rest of the way home in silence.
