Have To See It To Believe It, chapter 1

Emily Clerico sat on the curb in front of her ruined house. No her house didn't burn down, it was still up it was just charred completely. She sat there doing nothing but crying and looking down at her knockoff converse shoes.

"Miss Clerico? Please come with me, we have to discuss where you're going to live since you can't live with your sister." She heard from behind her. Her head shot up in rage and anger.

"WHAT DO YOU MEAN I CAN'T LIVE WITH MY SISTER? MY PARENTS AND ONLY BROTHER HAVE JUST DIED AND YOU ARE SAYING I CAN'T LIVE WITH THE ONLY FAMILY I HAVE LEFT? THIS IS FUCKING BULL SHIT!" She screamed at the top of her lungs, the anger and rage still building up.

"Sydney is not of legal age to take care of you. And working as a host at Applebee's is not a suitable job to support another person. Now come with me and we will go to the police station to review the things in the safe that your parents left behind." he replied while losing his patience.

She got up and slowly walked behind the officer to his car. She got in and looked out the window and thought. 'Why wasn't my room burned from the inside out? Why couldn't I have been sick and not my brother? Why is MY life so FUCKED UP?' These questions ran through her mind as they approached the police station.

"Please come with me," the officer escorted her into the station and into a small room where the safe was sitting. "Ok, I will leave you alone to look at whatever is in the safe." He left without another word.

She reached for the safe and put the combination in. Then she reached for her neck and pulled out a small silver chain with a key on it her parents had given her two days after they bought the safe. She stuck the key in and the door to the safe slowly opened. A stack of papers fell out and she took notice to the top one. She picked it up and glanced at it. Not knowing what it was she began to read it. Her mouth opened in awe as she saw what was typed onto it.

Father: Billie J Armstrong
Mother: Adrienne Armstrong
Eye Colour: Green, Father
Hair Colour: Brown, Mother
Adopted Mother: Karen D Clerico
Adopted Father: Kent J Clerico

She had planned to go to California with her friend Libby over the summer and 'stalk' Billie Joe. They were just kidding about the whole stalking Billie Joe but their parents were paying for a whole two months in California by themselves. She also had the biggest crush ever on Billie Joe and thought he was the sexiest man alive, but now with what she knew it all seemed wrong. She stared in awe. She knew she looked like them but never expected to be their daughter. She couldn't take it any more, she had been living a lie her whole life and she didn't know it. 'Why didn't figure this out! Why didn't my parents bother to tell me I was adopted or at least let me find out?' These thoughts ran though her mind, as did the other ones. She looked in the safe and pulled out an envelope. She counted the money that was in it.

"Good $1500.00, I have enough now." She whispered to herself.

The next thing she did surprised her and the policemen in the station. She ran. She ran to get away from this whole life. She had planned it all out and ran the plan through her mind. She would stay at her best friend Tai's house until school was over. Then she would find Libby and they would go to California just as they planned. But this time they actually were going to go talk with Billie, and she was going to explain that she was his daughter. She reached her burned house and hopped the fence. Her sat on the slightly burned porch and cried. Her dog came up to her and licked her hand, her cat soon followed. She smiled at the fact that her pets were all right.

"WAIT! KERBY!" She got up and ran inside the house and into the living room. She looked in the metal cage that her bird sat in.
He looked back at her. She grabbed the cage and headed back outside and set the cage on her broken trampoline. (No it wasn't burned her brother had jumped to hard on a small hole and it broke through.) She again ran, she hopped the fence and ran to the edge of her street and looked to the sun setting. She saw a car turn onto her street and slowed down at the sight of her. It stopped. She heard the door close and looked to her right. What she saw was a sight that she would never believe in a million years if it weren't happening right this second.
