Even the Sweetest Rose Has a Thorn., chapter 8

BANG, BANG, BANG

"What the heck?" Frankito whispered to himself has he walked into the kitchen. Paprika was banging her head on the table for some unknown reason, Mike was looking her strangely.

"Paprika, there is a quicker way to knock yourself unconsious you know?" he asked. She just sighed and continued banging her head.

"You bang your head on the table one more time and you are paying for a new kitchen table," Tré warned, she stopped.

"I have to race all Saturday, I have to go now," she said while packing.

"Why do you have to leave now?" Frankito said while kissing her. She groaned and just pulled away.

"Kentucky Derby," she simply said while walking to Frankito's room.

"Wow, that's a long way," Mike said.

"Where's it held?" Tré asked. Mike and Billie Joe just looked at him in disbelief, he was serious?

"Tré, it's the Kentucky Derby, where else would it be held?" Billie Joe asked. Tré was silent for a moment, then he got it, "oh," was all he said.

"I have to go by my house," Paprika simply said.

"How's the cheek?" Billie Joe asked. She nodded and rubbed her cheek, it stung but it was ok.

"Good," he said while kissing her other cheek (the other cheek on her face!)

"Ok, I'll go by your house and help you," Mike said.

"Thanks Dad," she smiled.

"No problem," he smiled back.

"So, how many horses are you racing?"

"Four or five," she said while laying her head on Frankito's shoulder in the car.

"Wow, that's a lot," Frankito exclaimed.

"No, really?" she laughed.

I heard it all before, and I, can take care of myself!

"Hello?" she asked as she opened her phone to speaker phone.

"Where are you?" the person on the other asked.

"I'm packing! Now calm down, I'm almost there ok?"

"Sundance and Apache are getting too excited without you here! Where are you dang it!"

"Jones?"

"What!"

"How much sleep did you get last night?"

"Ugh, not much."

"You see? This is why sleep is good."

"Just get over here!"

Paprika hung up the phone laughing.

"That was Jones, she needs to calm down, honestly."

"Is that the owner of the farm?" Mike asked. Paprika nodded and they pulled into the farm. A red headed woman was leaning on a humongus horse trailer biting her nails.

"Paprika! Where were you!?" she yelled.

"I was with Frankito and my dad, calm down Jones."

"Ok, calm down Sundance and Apache please!"

Paprika went in the horse trailer and walked to Sundance and Apache's stall which were right by each other.

"How are my perfect boys?" she cooed to the horses. They seemed to calm from her touch and voice as she patted their necks. They nuzzled her neck with their muzzles and she planted a kiss on their noses.

"Ok, they're good, we're hitting the road," Paprika announced while walking out of the trailer and closing the door.

"Ok, we're going to be there Friday or Saturday ok sweetie?" Mike said while kissing her cheek.

"All right," she nodded. She looked at Frankito and smiled, he smirked a little back.

"Be right with me at the winner's circle," she said to both of them. Frankito took her hand and pulled her toward him and kissed her, long and hard.

"Since I'm not going to be able to do that in about a week, might as well take advantage," he said. She smiled and pecked his lips and walked to the truck that was carrying the trailer. She waved good bye to the two guys and they smiled as she blew kisses to them both.

"You're just like your father Frankito, a romantic," Mike said when they got back to the car.

"Oh and like you aren't!" Frankito chuckled.
