"Welcome Home", chapter 1

June 24th, 2006,
Vans Skatepark, Longview, WA.

"COME ONE, COME ALL, TO THE 25TH ANNUAL VANS INTERNATIONAL SKATEBOARDING AND BLADING COMPETITION. JULY 2ND, 2006. DETAILS ON BOTTOM SHEET." Said a posted flyer as a crowd of skateboarding hopefuls gathered. The Vans international skateboarding and blading competition, Was based upon finding new youthful, talented, skaters, trying to skate their hearts out to earn the opportunity of getting sponsored. A number of bands, as well as pro-skaters would arrive and support the yearly event. This would be the 25th annual Vans competition, So they're hoping to make it more bigger and more spectacular than it normally is. This year, the skaters could vote and/or request what bands should preform at the competition. That way, If they lose, They could at least enjoy some kickass music, and meet some of their favorite bands.

As a number of skaters became hopeful, and began searching for the flyer and the sign up forms, There came a loud yell out of nowhere.
"Alright! Listen up!" Screamed a loud young male teen with the entire stack of sign up forms in his hand.
"I have ALL the forms people! Now if you REALLY want them... Gimme' bout 2 dollars, and we can compromise.."
"Oh quit being such an asshole Tyler!" Screamed an annoyed girl out of the crowd. "Just give us the fucking papers!"
"Pshh.." Tyler said patiently. " If YOU want the forms, Then YOU can give me 2 dollars, Little lady!"
"Or how about, YOU give us the forms, Or I'll make you kiss my fist!" She yelled back.
Tyler begins laughing hysterically.
"Okay. Punch me. C'mon. Right now. Do it you little brat." Tyler said without hesitation.
"You asked for it douchebag!"
The girl begins to move throughout the crowd and is making her way to the front as Tyler begins to realize she is actually going to try to hit him. He throws all the scattered papers in the air into the crowd and runs off.

Tyler makes it to his beat up truck successfully. He gets in and sits for awhile regaining his thoughts. Wow, I just ran from a chick, he thought. I just ran from a chick. He pretty much knew nobody at the skatepark liked him. Same pretty much went for school. Tyler didn't care. He just wanted to skate. He wanted to listen to his damn music, and he wanted to skate. That's about all he cared about. After a while, Tyler finally started up the car, and drove home.

When Tyler got home he could smell his mom's cooking. He loved his mom's cooking. Just about everyday he'd look forward to coming home to a nice full cooked meal. She'd never forget to make dinner either. Tyler's mom enjoyed cooking and cleaning, as well as taking care of the kids. She also looked forward to seeing her husband every night comeback from a long days work. Tyler had a pretty good home life. The only think annoying was his little sister, Remie. She was the only person who could really get on his last nerves. But Tyler still loved her. It was kind of a hate/love thing with his sister. For example, He was never nice to her, But if someone other than him messed with her, They'd be tasting ground in a heartbeat.

Tyler walked in, Threw his stuff his floor, And just jumped right on the couch with the remote.

"Tyler? That you?" His mom said with uncertainty.
"Yeah it's me."
"Oh thank heavens. I thought a random man just walked in our house for a minute, there." His mom said in relief.
"Mom, You always think there's a stranger in our house." Tyler stated.
"Well.. You know I wouldn't want anything to happen to my precious, little, children-" She joked as she began to set the table.

Right then, Remie came dashing down the stairs as if being chased by mad men with torches.
"TYLER! You HAVE to turn the channel! American Idol is on right now!" She said with great excitement.
"Screw that. That shows retarded." Tyler said without hesitation.
"Please don't say that word, Tyler!" His mom butted in.
"Tyler PLEASE!? Pretty please, Pretty please, Pretty Please?!" She begged.
"Fine! Whatever... I got stuff to do anyways.." He said suspiciously.
"Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!" She said satisfied.

Tyler threw the remote on the other couch and began to walk upstairs. Slowly before reaching the steps he's interrupted.
"Tyler dear?" His mom said suspiciously.
"What kind of "stuff" do you have to do?" She asked.
"Don't worry... None of THAT stuff.. Just like homework and all that crap." He said attempting to walk up the stairs again.
"Oh okay, I see. Well be down in about a half hour, Dinners almost ready."

Tyler goes into his room, Shuts the door and walks straight up to his stereo. Pops in one of his many burnt CD's and logs on his computer. While waiting for it to load, He notices one of the Vans Skateboarding Competition flyers folded in his right pocket. He takes it out for one more look.
"Maaan. What a lucky kid the winners gonna be." He says quietly.

All of a sudden Tyler hears a crack at the door. It's Remie, Spying on Tyler as usual.
"What are you doing buttface?" Tyler calls out.
"Hey Tyler?" Remie asks innocently.
"How come you can't be the winner of the Skateboarding thingy?" She asks.
Surprised, Tyler takes a minute to think serious about a question that his little sister possessed.
"Well... Uh.." Tyler hesitates.
"Er... I don't know... I just know I can't win." He say's shamefully.
"Why not?" She questions him once again.
"Listen Remie, You're waay to young to understand why. Ya see? The competition..." thingy"... Is based upon who the best skater is. I know, AND you know, That I'm NOT the best skater in this town." He finally lets out.
"So?" She still questions.
"C'mon Rem. You've seen my friend David come over a couple times, He basically owns the whole town in skateboarding. There's no chance I could win, especially if he's in it.." He say's with consideration.
"Well then I guess you better practice!" Remie yells as she runs off to go back to watching American Idol.

Tyler starts to think. He walks over and lays on his bed with his head at the end and his legs up on the wall. He starts to think what could really happen if he won. There was a possibility. He was probably the 5th best ranked skater in the town. But the competition wasn't just for Tyler's town. It was the entire West coast. Moments of hesitation about entering the event angered him. He really took into consideration about what his little sister said. Practice. But wait? Why was he listening to advice given to him by his little sister? What does SHE know about skateboarding anyways. No. Entering the competition would be dumb. He wasn't good enough. Maybe next year. But then again, Tyler could get a chance to get sponsored... Any skaters dream. Nah, That wouldn't happen. Well, it could... Aghh! The pressure to decide to enter it, or not enter it was angering him. He needed to decide right then if he wanted to take a chance, or be safe until next year.
