You're My Angel, chapter 5
Billie and his possibly unwelcome guest came in and sat on the couch across the living room from her and Tré. She wasn't sure if they were together, but the statement that Tré had made about having bad news really started to concern her.
Billie had a big smile on his face, but she had seen that same smile with Jamie which slightly eased the sick feeling that was building up in her stomach. The girl that was accompanying him was breathtakingly gorgeous which made her feel a tinge of jealousy.
The two of them seemed to be very comfortable together... like they were perfect for each other. The longer they sat in the living room in silence, the more frustrated Adriana got. She was relieved when Billie finally broke the tension in the air introducing the two females.
"You know Tré... and this is my best friend Adriana," Billie said.
"Hello," the girl said. "My name is Adrienne Nesser."
"Oh," Adriana said politely. "It's nice to meet you."
"You too," she smiled. "I've heard a lot about you."
Billie interrupted their conversation by saying that the two of them were going to get some food. He asked if Tré and Adriana wanted to join them.
"We're just going to eat here," Tré said before Adriana had the chance to say anything.
Billie and Adrienne got up and left. As soon as the door shut, Adriana turned to Tré with a look of confusion and sadness on her face.
"Who the hell is she?" Adriana asked impatiently. "They aren't together... are they?"
"I'm sorry," he sighed. "I tried to get here and tell you before they showed up so you wouldn't be shocked... obviously that didn't fucking work."
"Did you know about this when you called the other day?" she asked.
"No... I swear," he said reassuringly. "He wasn't hanging out with us as much as usual, but I knew that him and Jamie were having some issues and I thought that was why he was acting weird... I didn't know he had already moved on to another girl."
Tré pulled her close to him to give her a hug. She cried while Tré tried to comfort her, once again trying to convince her that everything would work out for her.
He kept saying that... he had tried to convince her of that so many times before. Although she hated to even let the thought enter her aching mind, she was starting to wonder if Billie was the one she was supposed to be with.
Many times in the past she had tried so hard not to give up... she tried to just let things happen. The good things that she wanted so much never happened though and she couldn't understand why.
"What are you thinking?" Tré asked after about ten dreadful minutes of complete silence. "You haven't said anything in a while and it's worrying me a little bit."
"You keep saying that everything is going to work out how it is supposed to," she started. "Well maybe Billie isn't the one that is going to make everything right for me."
"What are you saying?" he asked not sure what she was getting at.
"I'm saying that... " she paused. "I don't know... I think I need to get over Billie because I really feel like I am just wasting my time."
"You have waited for so long to tell him this... " he said. "I thought you would have given up after he married Jamie, but you didn't. Are you willing to just let nine years of your life waste away into nothing because you have the slightest doubt about what the result will be? You're telling me you are just going to have a 'screw it' attitude and not even find out what his reaction is?"
"Yeah," she sniffled. "I just don't have the energy to continue on feeling this way and him having no clue. The faster I start getting over him the sooner I will feel better and be able to get on with my life."
"Then let him know how you feel... " he said angrily. "If you don't... you're always going to look back and wonder what would have happened. Having regrets about the past will really drag you down... believe me."
"I know," she sighed. "Regrets are useless, but I would rather have his friendship forever than to risk ending it by letting him know."
"This is not going to fucking help you get over him," he sighed in frustration. "He is always going to be in your life and it will forever remind you of the things that you feel for him."
"I think I'm losing my fucking mind, Tré," she groaned. "I can't even explain how I feel about this."
"Well, I'm here and I'll listen to whatever you have to say," he assured her. "So just start talking."
"I can't," she told him. "I've made my decision... I have to move on."
"But why?" he asked not understanding why this was so hard for her.
"Because he would have told someone that is close to him if he felt that way about me," she guaranteed him. "He is pretty open about most things, you know."
"Well how the hell do you know he isn't feeling exactly like you do? What if he just thought that he needed to move on... and he was just able to do it a lot sooner than you?" he suggested. "That is probably the reason he married Jamie... I think you are making a huge mistake, Adriana."
Although she knew that he was probably right, she didn't want to talk about it anymore. She had wasted enough of her life on something that she didn't see ever happening. She tried to convince herself that she was doing what was best for her.
She got up and went in the bathroom to take a shower... she knew that Tré wouldn't bother her in there. She stayed in the shower until the hot water ran out. When she came out of the bathroom, Tré was already sleeping.
She turned off the TV that he always insisted on leaving on during the night. She didn't see how he slept that way and she always turned it off after he fell asleep. She pulled back the covers and slid into the bed next to Tré.
She was really tired and hoped that she could get some sleep. When she closed her eyes, everything that she and Tré had talked about earlier replayed over and over again in her mind. She tossed and turned for what seemed like hours before finally drifting off to sleep.
--
Over the next couple of weeks, Adriana went on a few dates with some random people that Tré had set her up with. She hated the whole idea of blind dates, but she knew she had to start somewhere.
She tried to enjoy herself, but in the back of her mind she could hear Tré's words over and over again. She felt herself trying to reconsider not giving up on Billie... she forced the thoughts out of her mind.
Tré had helped her out a lot by setting her up on the few dates that she went on. He had also taken her on a few 'dates' to distract her. It really kept her mind off everything that was going on... and she was starting to see why all of the ladies couldn't resist him.
She still hung out with Billie even though she didn't get to spend too much time with him because he was always with Adrienne. Adrienne... she got irritated just hearing that name... she secretly hoped that they weren't getting too serious.
--
Billie called to invite Adriana and Tré out to dinner with him. He told them that he had some really important things that he wanted to tell them. Against Adriana's will, Tré agreed and they planned on getting together the following night.
Friday night had arrived and both of them were in the bathroom getting ready. Adriana was trying to do something productive with her hair while Tré was shaving.
"I swear," she sighed. "If he tells us that they are getting married to that girl I am going to fucking throw up."
"Not over him yet?" he asked as he was wiping the excess shaving cream off of his face.
"Shush, Tré... " she said playfully. "Remember... we are not talking about him."
"So, do you wanna get wasted before we see Billie?" he mumbled as he brushed his teeth. "Or should we wait to see what he has to say?"
"Is she going to be there?" I ask anxiously.
"I don't think so," he said. "You act like you don't like her or something," he laughed.
They finished getting ready to go and then made their way to the restaurant the three of them were meeting at. Adriana tried to stay as calm as possible, but she was anxious to know what he could possibly be so excited about.
Tré was a real gentleman... just like he had been the other times they had gone out to places. She loved how he could be so charming and it really made her feel better about the whole situation.
Billie was already at a table waiting for them when they arrived. Everything was going smoothly... no one had brought up the subject of why they were there in the first place. Halfway through the meal, though, Billie finally spoke up about it.
"The reason I wanted you two to meet me is," he paused. "Well I wanted Mike to be here to, but he was busy. Anyway, Adrienne and I have been dating for a while and... "
Adriana stopped listening as she tried to imagine what he might say next. Tré put his hand on top of hers which was resting on the bench of the booth between them. She decided that she should try to focus on what Billie was telling them.
She snapped back to reality just in time to catch the last part of what Billie was saying.
Billie had a big smile on his face, but she had seen that same smile with Jamie which slightly eased the sick feeling that was building up in her stomach. The girl that was accompanying him was breathtakingly gorgeous which made her feel a tinge of jealousy.
