Billie's Unknown Daughter, chapter 1
Why won't she tell me? I have a right to know who my real dad is. All she will tell me is that I have his bright sparkly light green eyes. My name is Cali and today is my 15th birthday. My mom left my dad and took me after I was born. Then she married this guy named John. I hate him. He thinks just because he's married to my mom means he's my dad, but he is wrong. My mom said that he was nice and sweet. Then why did she leave him? She never told me why. She said I look and act so much like him, it reminds her of him everyday. She is constantly talking about my eyes. Not a lot of people have eyes like this. She says that I have my dad's musical talent. I played the guitar since I was 6. Green Day is my favorite band. I don't know what I would do without them. Billie is my idol. My hero. The person I look up to. I understand everything about him. I'm a lot like him. I know what's it's like not having a dad. Everyone says I have to be as good of a guitar player as he is or better. I think nobody can be as good as him. Anyway back to the real story. I was arguing with my mom cause she won't tell me anything about my dad.
"Why can't you tell me!?!" I asked almost in tears.
"Cali honey, you have to understand. I'm doing this for your own good. You will figure it out if you try hard enough. Now go in the basement with your friends and watch Bullet In A Bible." She said. I ran down the stairs and plopped on the couch right as my best friend Kevin was about to put the DVD in.
"You had another fight with her didn't you?" he asked, concerned. I nodded and he came over and sat next to me trying to make me feel better while I started crying on his shoulder. He knew how much I wanted to know about my dad. My other friends Jimmy and Erik sat quietly watching the DVD. Green Day started playing American Idiot. I felt better just hearing them. Then after a while Jimmy and Erik had to go home which left Kevin and me to watch the rest of it. We heard a knock at the door and my mom yelled, "I'll get it!" I was thinking about what my mom said. How was I gonna figure it out. Then there was a close up of Billie's face. I paused it.
"Kev, look at his eyes." I said with a shaky voice. "Now look at mine." He did and got wide eyed. I couldn't believe it. Kevin went to talk to my mom and as soon as he saw who it was that was with her, his mouth dropped. He came back down and nodded his head. The person I admire the most actually was my dad. I hate my mom. My dad is Billie Joe Armstrong and she didn't tell me. She knows how important he is to me. All those years and it was right under my nose. I started to cry. She was right. I was a lot like him. I was so stupid I didn't even think about him being my dad.
"Umm Cali, he's up there. Your mom said she wants to talk to you." Kevin said trying to make me feel better. My mom came slowly down the stairs knowing I was mad at her. But she wasn't alone.
"Cali listen, I know I should have told you but I just couldn't. I'm sorry." Billie looked at her surprised.
"You said you told her." He whispered so I wouldn't hear. But I did. She ignored it and tried to hug me but I pushed her away.
"I hate you!" I whispered but just loud enough that she could hear me. The I ran up to my room. I held my guitar on my lap. The same guitar my dad sent me for my 6th birthday. 5 minutes later I heard a knock at my door. It was Kevin.
"Your mom wants to talk to you. So do I." He said coming over and sitting on my bed with me.
"I don't want to talk to anyone!" I said with tears running down my cheeks.
"What about your dad? He wants to talk to you to. Your mom told him that she told you about him being your dad. He yelled at her. I swear I saw a tear run down his cheek. He knows what it feels like to not have a dad. So will you talk to him?" He asked hugging me. I nodded slowly. I was nervous. You would be too if you just found out that your dad's a rock star. Kevin left my room. I took my guitar and started playing and singing Good Riddance. This song always made me happy. Then I saw a figure at my door. It was him. He started clapping.
"You're really good." He said coming in and sitting next to me.
"Thanks, you're better." I said. He smiled.
"So, I know you just met me and all, but would you want to come live with me? Me and Adrienne broke up and she took the kids so I have the whole house to myself. I would really like it if you would. I could get to know you better. So please?" He said giving me those irresistible puppy dog eyes. How could I say no. I really wanted to go and live with him.
"Sure!" I said with a smile. Then my mom came in.
"Cali your dad's home." She said referring to my step dad.
"He's not my dad, he's my fucking asshole of a step dad!" I said feeling proud of myself for finally telling my mom off. My step dad was listening to everything and then did something I didn't expect.
"Why can't you tell me!?!" I asked almost in tears.
