"Hi, I'm Your Neighbour.", chapter 2

I ran into the room to see Carrie being lifted up with the help of her dad. The keyboard next to his desk was in pieces on the ground. Carrie's face was red and wet with tears and she was clutching her side in pain. I was speechless, not knowing what to do.

"I'm sorry, daddy!"

"That's what happens when you get in my way!"

"That doesn't mean you can throw me across the room!" Carrie yelled, defending herself.

"Whoa. Carrie, are you ok?" I questioned.

"Yeah, I'm fine. I need ice!" She whined. She had every reason to whine.

I followed her to the kitchen where she opened the freezer and pulled out an ice pack. I couldn't stand being around when things like this happened. Carrie didn't deserve to be beat, and neither did I. She came to school all the time with bruises and cuts. I did too, but I covered it up well enough that no one noticed. She always said it was an accident. I never believed her, let alone wanted to.

"Yeah. My neighbor's been really mad at us. Well, I know why, it's because there's rumors going around that my dad abuses me." She pulled an incredulous look like it wasn't true and people were being ridiculous. I played along and agreed with her, in my mind screaming It's true It's true And mentally kicking myself. I then mumbled to her,

"I swear Carrie, one day he's gonna be too hard on you and you're regret not getting help."

After that we left in her dad's car, listening to his music from the '60s. We got to his friend Roger's house and played with his dog Squeegie. After a while he told us to come outside and work with him. We both thought it was ridiculous, but went along. We ended up weeding the back garden in Roger's yard. Carrie's dad was out getting mulch to finish, so we were alone in the backyard. We were halfway through when two boys came out from the back door of the neighbor's house.

"Hi, I'm your neighbor. My name's Billie Joe, and this is my best friend Mike."

The boy called Billie Joe had red hair and beautiful green eyes, just like me. Exactly like me. The boy called Mike had blonde hair and striking blue eyes. They seemed nice, I really couldn't tell by the first, what, 15 words? Anyways, I then introduced us.

"Hi. I'm Nikki and this is my best friend Carrie."

Carrie looked almost just like me, except she had short red hair and hazel eyes. She was keeping an eye on Mike, I could obviously tell she liked him. I nudged her with my elbow and snapped back into reality.

"So, you guys have, like, dirt all over you? What are doing out here?" Billie Joe said.

"First of all, we're girls," I giggled, "and second of all, we have to weed this guy's backyard."

"Wow. I never heard of girls having to weed a yard and not like it!" He said sarcastically.

"Really? Me neither!" I giggled back.

"Do you guy-um, girls-want any help?" He offered.

"PLEASE! I'll give you my pay if you help me!" I pleaded.

The boys agreed to help, so me and Billie Joe took one side of the garden, and Carrie and Mike the other. Carrie and Mike seemed to be getting along, all they did while we were working was talk. Me and Billie Joe talked a lot too. He told me how he was starting a band, and wanted a new guitar.

"Yeah. My friends John and him," he pointed to Mike, "Are gonna start a band if I ever get a new guitar. Hey, if you're allowed, maybe you can come over after we're done weeding."

"That sounds good. Me and my friends are going to start a band too. I play guitar and sing."

"You're being serious?"

I nodded.

"Then we're exactly alike. Here let me count out our similarities. 1) We both have reddish-brown hair, 2) We both have green eyes, 3) We love music, 4) We both play guitar and sing."

"Wait, are you my paternal twin or something?" I chuckled.

"I'm not so sure!" He replied, giggling.

"Ah! That's the last weed in our side. Think Carrie and Mike are done?"

"Maybe." Billie Joe said.

So, we walked over to their part of the garden. We asked if they were finished and they said yes, so we found out Carrie's dad was back from the store. We asked him if we could go over Billie Joe's house and he said yes and that he'd pick us up in a couple of hours so he could go to ping-pong practice. We went over to Billie Joe's and he introduced us to his parents and his brothers.

A few months later, June 11th to be exact, Billie Joe, Carrie, Mike and I still kept contact. We were best friends. And, me and Billie Joe were NOT paternal twins. I was sitting on my bed in my room one day when my mom, hungover, walked in.

"Hey, honey."

"What?" I asked sassily. I knew the 'honey' act was a fraud.

"We're moving. And don't be a bitch." She spat.

"OK, are we moving out of city?"

"No."

"State?"

"No."

"Country?"

"NO."

"So where the fuck are we moving? "

"WATCH YOUR MOUTH NICOLE BRIANNA CALHOUN " She screamed.

"Whatever. Where the frick are we moving?"

"Ah, somewhere near that one kid's house that you know. I hate him."

"I love that you hate him... Wait, who? Billie Joe?"

"Yeah. Whatever. Him." She said, very whiny-baby like.

"YESSS!" I screamed. I was so happy! We were going to move in next to Billie Joe! I didn't have to walk like a mile over any more!

"So when are we moving?" I asked, the excitement rising inside me.

"Tomorrow. Start packing your shit now."

"Alright, and I would suggest if you don't want hangover like that in the future don't get drunk every night god dammit!" I told her.

She went furious and I quickly, instead of packing my stuff, threw my closest things; guitar, belt, eyeliner, ipod; and some clothes into my small black duffle bag and tore out the room. I ran across the street and walked on the sidewalk for about 15 minutes until I reached Billie Joe's house. I knocked on the door and his bother Eric answered it.

"Hey, Nikki! Here for Billie Joe, I assume?"

"Yup. He's around, right?" I asked.

"Oh yeah. Come on in. I'll let him know you're here."

"Thanks, Er!"

He left the doorway and I walked in, shutting it behind me. I walked up the steps to Billie Joe's room and down the hallway and then knocked on Billie Joe's door.
When he opened the door I almost pissed myself with laughter.

Billie was standing in the doorway where he had opened the door with a pair of tighty whiteys pulled on his head, Mike behind him, the same thing on his head. I dropped to the floor laughing as Billie and Mike quickly pulled them off their heads and Billie blushed bright pink.

As I walked through the door after I had calmed down, I asked Billie,

"Hey Captain Underpants! Mikey Tighties! What up? Can I crash here? Mom's after me."

"Sure. You've done it before you can do it again." Billie said welcomely.

"That really didn't sound right, Bil" I giggled.

He blushed again. Why was he so blushy around me? This was new. He was never embarrassed nor nervous about saying anything around me.

"I've got good news."

"What?" he asked.

"I've saved a lot of money on my car insurance by switching to Geico." I teased.
He seemed a little disappointed, so I got to the real point.

"OK, here's the real good news. I'm moving in next door." I said, smiling.
He brightened up immediately. He smiled and screamed 'yess! ' the same way I did when I found out. He hugged me, and once again after, blushed. I motioned to Mike to talk to me afterwards while Billie wasn't looking. He nodded. Then, the doorbell rang...
