The Perfect Lie, chapter 1
They sat silently on opposite sides of the table looking at eachother. One set of eyes confused and puzzled. The other set relaxed at caring. They smiled. Sweetly of course, as they watched the world outside pass them by. Teenagers in a world to big for them to know completely. The restaurants window started to fog up as they unknowingly breathed heavily on it. They both wondered curiously what the other was thinking about but kept their thoughts to themselves.
‘Billie Joe’, the weak voice spoke from opposite him. Billie looked over and let his eyes rest on the figure.
‘Yes Mike’, Billie answered him smiling. Mike smiled back almost overlooking the words he had in his mind.
‘When am I gonna see her?’, he asked curiously tapping his fingers on the table top.
‘See who?’, Billie asked, losing his mind to something else.
‘The girl you’ve told me about. I only agreed to come cos you said it was important’, Mike reminded him.
Billie looked up at Mike and smiled. He finally understood what Mike was talking about as the puzzle pieces clicked themselves together.
‘Yeah she’s off work soon, trust me. I just want you to meet her’, Billie told him a little more enthusiastically.
‘How’d you meet her? Through Tre?’, Mike asked, starting to make conversation flow.
‘Yeah they work in the same area thing’, Billie explained smiling half heartedly. He had been waiting for her over an hour, wondering about her. Wishing she would just appear infront of him. Teenage love did this kind of thing to you. Slowly he felt a warm touch on the side of his face. He lifted his hand and placed it over the fingers of the touch and smiled.
‘Hello Billie’, the voice said lovingly kissing the side of his cheek. Billie turned his head and kissed the girl back before getting her to sit down.
‘Steph this is Mike. Mike, Steph’, Billie said introducing them to one another. The two newly greeted friends shook hands and smiled. Mike watched her slowly and carefully wondering where he had seen her before. Billie yawned and placed an arm around the girl sitting next to him, resting his head on her shoulder. Steph smiled and put her arms around his waist. Mike smiled awkwardly at them as he watched the two teenagers shower eachother with affection. Time past on as they three conversed and shared talk.
‘Oh I got to get to work, I’ll see you later on tonight maybe?’, Steph asked Billie turning back to him.
‘Of course you will. Should I pick you up?’, he asked her, kissing her neck causing her to giggle.
‘No I’ll get to you. Tre will give me a lift’, she told him poking him. He poked her back causing her into a fit of girly laughter before she kissed him goodbye and walked down to the back area to start work.
‘So what do you think Mike is she sweet or what?’, Billie asked impressed with what he had. He sat back in his seat casually and smiled and Mike for an answer. Mike tried to remember where he had seen her. ----- Car....... darkness---- he remembered. He shook his head and looked back at Billie.
‘What dude?’, he asked. Billie looked at him and asked him again as Mike’s mind put more words together.
‘....noise....alcohol.....Tre’, his mind told him.
‘Yeah she’s nice’, Mike told him trying to put more of the words together.
‘Just nice......Mike she’s beautiful’, Billie exploded sitting back in his seat, ‘And she’s all mine’, he smiled.
Mike sat there looking at him confused once all the words had come together in his mind. He remembered where he had seen her before. He remembered everything his mind had told him. She was the girl he and Tre had drunk with a couple of nights ago. She was the girl he had caught Tre with in his backseat. She was the one who had begged him not to tell anyone. Now he knew why. Now it all seemed perfect.
‘Mike, so what do you think?’, Billie asked, wanting to be told that his new girl was perfect.
‘Ahh Billie can I tell you something?’, Mike asked in confusion not knowing whether to tell his friend or not.
‘Tell me what buddy?’, Billie said raising an eyebrow hoping for Mike’s words to be some kind of praise to him. He leaned over the booth table and stared up at Mike.
‘Billie......well ahhh’, Mike said as his words slowly poured there way out..
