Well That's Interesting, chapter 7
KNOCK! KNOCK! KNOCK!
"Come in." I mumble as I pull the blankets off of my head.
"Breakfast in bed." Tre says as he brings in a tray with eggs, toast, orange juice and coffee.
"I'm sorry!" I yelp as I run to the washroom, the smell of the eggs were the trigger.
"I'm so, so sorry." Tre apologizes quickly as I hear him go out of my room, he returns moments later. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah, just the damn morning sickness." I mutter as I flush the toilette and stand up.
"It was the eggs, wasn't it?"
"Yeah." I say as we walk out of my room.
"Right, no eggs." I can't help but laugh.
"You don't have to do this."
"But I want to." he whines.
"Why?!"
"I don't know."
After an egg-free breakfast I excuse myself.
"I have to get to work now." I mumble.
"Umm okay." He says as he picks up the breakfast dishes off the kitchen table. I walk into my personal bathroom and turn on the shower. The hot water felt so good against my skin, relieving all the muscle tension. After my shower I got dressed and styled my hair quickly before leaving my room to say goodbye to Tre.
"Bye Tre, I'm leaving now."
"You never told me what you do." He says casually.
"I co-own a coffee shop called The Mocha Corner."
"Cool, I think I've been there."
"Alright well I'll see you later."
"Wait, wait!" he calls after me as he reaches in his pockets. "House keys."
"Oh thanks." I say as he hands me a set of keys.
***
My promised week at Tre's came to an end, we're eating dinner in the kitchen (we never ate in the dining room).
"So I guess this is your final day." Tre says as he pokes at his food with his fork.
"Yeah."
"So...Do you want to move in?"
"I've been thinking about it and I think I will." I say as his face lights up.
***
Two days later I had officially moved out of my apartment and into Tre's house. Tre had left for the afternoon leaving me home alone.
"Angel, are you here?" Tre calls through the house as I here the front door shut.
"Yeah." I say as I head to the door.
"I'd like to introduce you to someone." He says as I near the entrance, "This is my son Frankito." The most adorable five year old stood shyly behind his father. "Franky, this is my friend Angel."
"Hi Franky." I say kneeling down to the child's level.
"Say hi buddy."
"Hi." The child says barely audible.
"Sorry, he chooses to be shy sometimes." Tre says, as he picks up his son is arms. "You wanna watch cartoons buddy." The child nods silently. "Alright, go ahead." Tre places the child back on the floor and he runs off to the family room.
"He's adorable." I say laughing.
"Yeah he is." Tre says adoringly.
"Well I was reading a really good book, so I'll leave you to spend time with Frankito." I say as I head up the stairs to my room. Why couldn't I just be honest to Tre that I was crazy about him?
Tre's P.O.V.
I hope the fact that I already had a son didn't scare her off, why did she just leave. Maybe she really was reading a good book. Luckily Kelly was here today, so I could ask her.
"Kelly!" I whine as I jog into the kitchen.
"What now Tre?" she says rolling her eyes.
"Do you think Angel likes me?"
"Jeez, you're worse than a teenager."
"I believe that was already established when I hired you."
"Yes, I do believe she likes you." she says as she wipes off the kitchen counters with a cloth. "She moved in didn't she?"
"Yeah." I mumble as I trace circles with my finger on the counter, "It's just this is sort of a weird dating situation."
"You're telling me."
"Now are you paying me to be your cleaning lady or your shrink?"
"Umm good question."
"Tre." Angel calls from the doorway of the kitchen.
"Yeah?" I say whipping around.
"I'm going to my doctor's appointment now." She says as she walks out.
"Go, go!" Kelly hisses at me.
"What about Franky?"
"I'll watch him, now go!"
"Angel wait!" I call after her. "I'll take you!"
"Thanks Tre." She says smiling as we head out the door.
As I sat next to her during her ultra-sound, it became real, she was having my child, and our child and we just met a little less than a month ago.
"Well I'm proud to tell you your baby is perfectly healthy." The doctor says as she wipes the petroleum jelly off Angel's stomach.
"That's great." Angel says as she grabs my hand, but let's go quickly as if it was too forward. I take her hand again and she smiles.
We walk back to my car hand and hand we separate to go to our separate doors.
"Would you like to go to dinner now?" I ask as I start up the car.
"Sure." She says still smiling like crazy.
"Okay, I'll just go pick up Frankito."
When we get back to my house I get out of the car to get my son, Angel waited in the car.
"Kelly!" I call though the house.
"Tre, how did it go?"
"Really well." I say smirking, "We're going out to dinner now; do you want to come?"
"No sweetie, I have my own family to attend to. Little Frank is in the living room."
"Thanks."
"No problem." She says as she gathers her stuff and heads out the front door.
"Dad!" Frankito yells as he runs up to me.
"Hey kid-o, do want to go for supper now?"
"Yeah. Anyway on Sponge Bob, he and, and, Patrick went to glove land and then they took a bus, but it went the wrong way."
"That sounds funny." I say as I take his hand and lead him out of the house.
"And then every time Sponge Bob tried to go on the other bus he would miss it."
"Awe." I say as I lock the front door.
"What's your girlfriend's name again?" he asks as we walk down to the driveway.
"Angel, you can call her Angel."
"Is she a real Angel?"
"You can ask her yourself." I say as I open Frankito's car door. He climbs up into his car seat and waits for me to buckle him in.
"Angel." He calls out, "Are you a real Angel?"
"No sweetie, it's just my name," she says smiling.
Angel's P.O.V.
We got to an Italian restaurant and Tre and I got out of the car. Tre went around to get Frankito out of his car seat.
"Hey buddy, you remember the restaurant rules?" Tre asks as his son jumps out of the car.
"Yup."
"Okay." Tre says as he picks up his son and carries him into the restaurant. He was so sweet; he all of a sudden matured when it came to Frankito.
After ordering our food my cell phone starts to ring. I pick it up to check the number Karin Suarez
"Shit." I mouth. "Tre will you excuse me." I get up from the table and walk to the washroom; I know any conversation with her would get ugly.
"Hi mom." I say finally answering the phone.
"Why didn't you tell me you were living with someone and you're pregnant?"
"Fine thank you and yourself." I say sarcastically.
"Don't take that tone with me."
"Who told you?" I demand.
"Hailey accidentally let it slip, during our conversation this afternoon." She says very matter of factly, "Now tell me what's going on."
"I'm living with a guy and we're having a child together. That's all you need to know."
"Who is this guy?"
"That's none of you business."
"It is my business, I am your mother."
"He wouldn't fit into your picture perfect world so there's no point in me telling you about him." I say upset; I can feel the tears gathering in my eyes, "Congratulations Mom, you made my evening." I shut my phone and look up to see Tre standing there with a worried look on his face.
"Are you okay?" he asks walking forward, putting his hands on my arms.
"Yeah, I'll be fine." I mumble as I wipe my eyes. "Just give me a minute." He let's go of my arms and cups my cheeks with his hands, he leans forward and kisses me. That one log kiss seemed to make all my problems fade away.
"C'mon, let's go back to the table." He suggests as he places one hand on the small of my back and leads me back to the dining area of the restaurant.
We get back to the table to find Frankito with a colouring book in his lap scribbling away with a purple crayon.
"Can you tell me what happened?" Tre asks quietly as we take our seats at the table.
"My mother called." I say as I lift my head and see his blue eyes staring at me. "She's all about appearances and keeping up with the Jones's. When I was a teenager I was into the whole punk rock thing, and my teenage rebellion got out of hand. We haven't had a pleasant conversation since."
"What do you mean your teenage rebellion got out of hand? Did you steal a car?" I shake my head.
"No, I was in my last year of high school and at the time my sister was in college here in Oakland. One evening I got pissed at my mom and I hitchhiked to Oakland and stayed with my sister and her roommates in their apartment. Naturally, I refused to go back to Mendota and my sister didn't mind me staying as long as I got a part time job to help pay rent and stuff. So I finished high school here and that's about it."
"What about your dad?" Tre asks intrigued by my past.
"He's really passive, so he thought after a month or so of living in a crappy apartment building, I'd have enough and go back hence ending my rebellion." Tre just nods.
"Franky, put away your colouring book the food's here." Tre says as the waitress nears our table.
"Awe." The child whines as he places the book in the empty place next to him. Our food is placed in front of us and Frankito digs in.
"Slow down Franky or you'll choke." Tre says as taps his son on the shoulder.
"No I won't."
"I suppose now is a good a time as any to tell you I have to go on tour next week." Tre mumbles.
"Umm okay." I say looking up at him. "For how long?"
"About a month, so you'll have the house to your self."
"Alright, just out of curiosity, when does your tour end?" I ask casually.
"Well, we have this month of touring and then we get November off and then we have two weeks of touring in December in Australia."
