"What An Asshole You Are Billie"-sequal to "you may not see me but im always with you Adrienne", chapter 9
*still in Adrienne's P.O.V*
I turned my head away from Billie and linked my arm through Tre's as we made our way towards the exit.
"Hang on Adie, we shouldn't leave. Just because Billie's here doesn't mean we have to ruin our drink together" Tre said, pulling me back.
"I just want to go home and not face him" I say, turning back around.
"No, wait he can't spoil your fun like this, you can't go running every time he's around" Tre tries again.
I look at him, tears threatening to fall. "Why are you doing this Tre?" I ask him.
"Doing what?" he replies, looking straight into my eyes.
"Looking after me and standing by me through all of this, I mean Billie's been your friend longer than I have so why not him?" I say, confused.
"Well, Billie has been an asshole and he has done wrong so I can't agree with what he has done and well... "he trails off not wanting to finish.
"Well what?" I ask him.
"It doesn't matter" he replies quickly.
"It obviously does, tell me Tre" I demand, holding onto him as people come rushing past us.
"You know what, maybe leaving was a good idea" he mumbles, letting go of me and walking up the stairs. I watch as he lightly jogs up the steps, a small line spreading across my forehead as I frown with confusion. I try to erase what he had just said out of my head but it still lingered like an unwanted smell.
I follow up the steps and get into the car, where Tre is waiting.
"Lets go home then?" I ask.
"Yeah, good idea" he says, gazing out of the window.
When we arrive back at my house the sun is setting, making the sky glow a soft pink colour. I smile as I think how beautiful the sky looks at this time of day.
"What you doing?" Tre asks, coming up behind me.
"I'm just thinking how lovely the sky looks when the sun sets" I say softly, gazing into the distance. We live on a hill and all you can see are trees for miles so there's no building blocking the view.
I feel two hands slither themselves round my waist. "I've always thought how beautiful the sky looks too, but theirs one thing in this world that's far more beautiful than a sun set" Tre whispers in my ear from behind me. I stand there, feeling his warm breath on my neck, his hands linked together round my middle.
"What would that be?" I ask, equally as quiet.
"You" he says simply. I feel myself burn up and my head goes dizzy with confusion. I turn around to face him.
"What?" I ask him, starting to feel sick.
"I know this really isn't the right time to tell you, but since I first laid eyes on you I knew that you were the one but I knew I couldn't tell you because you were with Billie" he says softly.
"But... I don't understand, no Tre you've obviously been drinking or something, sleep on it and you'll be you're silly old self in the morning" I say quickly, trying not to look in his eyes.
"No Adie, I mean it, I haven't been drinking, not today anyway. I really do care about you and have always loved you and I couldn't keep it inside of me any longer" he says, taking my hands. I try to snatch them away but he holds onto them firmly.
"No Tre, I know you don't love me-" I start until Tre's lips meet mine. He kisses me softly and caringly. My head feels like it is going to explode with confusion and fear. I break away sharp, stepping back from Tre slightly.
"Tre, go home" I mumble quietly. His eyes look empty and disappointed.
"Please" I plead, giving him a small smile.
"I'll be back tomorrow Adie" he says, before turning round and walking slowly up the road, back to his house.
I watch him long after he has gone from sight. I start to feel goose bumps as the evening breeze sweeps across my skin. I turn and head for the front door, putting in the keys and shoving the door open.
I walk inside and just stand in the middle of the kitchen. All is to be heard is air bubbling through the boiler and the whistle of the wind against the walls now and then.
The silence is really uncomfortable. I'm used to sounds of laughter or arguments from Joey and Jakob or the soft strumming from Billie down in the basement. But all that was gone.
I sigh and pick up the phone. My hands tremble as I dial the number. It takes me a few times before I get the number right. My heart is racing as the ringing fills my ears. Then he picks up.
"Hello?" He asks. His voice again, how I love the sound of his voice.
"Hi Billie, it's me Adie"
