Dawn To Dusk, chapter 11

Jara fell to the floor. On her way down, she grasped onto the side of the bed. She tried to keep herself up, but slipped down anyway. Her knees a baby giraffe's. She instantly sobbed oncer more in a sullen, near whisper state. Jara looked down, not saying a word. Gerard rushed to the floor, trying to comfort her. He went to put his arms around her and held her tight. She leaned her head onto his chest, balling, leaving his jacket a soaking wet mess. Gerard had to break the silence.
"It's....it's going to be okay,"He rubbed up and down her back."Everything will be okay."He sighed heavily, not knowing for certain everything indeed would be back to the way it once was."I know it."

There were a few days before Jara was released from the hospital. While on the drive home, Jara was silent, even though Gerard tried to make small talk.
"So, what are you going to do when we get back? Do you want me to run to the store and get you some Ben & Jerry's Rocky Road ice cream? You know its your favourite."
"That's alright..."
"Are you sure? How about we play a game of spin the bottle when we get home? It has always cheered you up before."
"Hehe,"she fake laughed,"Before."
"I'm sorry, I see you don't want to talk."
There was no response.
"So, are you looking forward to tonight?"
"Why, what's tonight?"She turned her face from the window and looked at Gerard who was driving. "Gerard, what is tonight?"
"Ummm....you know, we have work tonight."
"Ohh.....which work?" Jara said leaning in towards Gerard wanting to stay quiet."Cause, if it's that work, them I think it's too soon, I mean I just found out I lost-"
"Hunting."
"Oh, well then in that case..........no, still."
"Oh, am I going to be all alone again, like before I met you?"Gerard said, giving a puppy-dog looking expression.
"Looks that way,"Jara said in a glum tone.
"Oh, well. I guess than I can look at other woman like I did before I met you."
Jara slapped him hard.
"Okay, okay, I won't look at other women.....I'll just look at other men."
He was slapped once again.
"Fine! Be that way,"Gerard exclaimed.
They reached home and Jara went directly to her bed and lay down, head facing towards the ceiling. Gerard was still very upset with the news of the 'ahemm' night with Jara and the stranger. He wanted to find out the whole story but found now not the time.
He knocked on the bedroom door before entering. As he thought, there was no answer, there never seemed to be any more. He rarely ever spoke to Jara any more like he used to. The day Jara went to the hospital was the day she kind of lost the spark in her relationship with Gerard. Jara had definitely changed and Gerard knew it. She had lost all trust of anyone and was left with nothing. It was no wonder she had done those stupid things to herself like the slitting of her wrist and the overdose of sleeping pills.
"Jar, can I come in?"Gerard asked, nervous of her reaction.
There was no answer.
He walked in. "Jara, I know you're sad. It's okay, I'm sad too. But, you're going to have to eventually start talking to me."
"I know."Her voice dry and full of nothing but sorrow. "Gerard, I'm just scared."Drips dropped from her eyes.
"Oh, Jar."Gerard hugged her tight.
"I can't loose you. If I do, I'll have nothing left."
"You won't loose me, I'll never leave you, you can count on it." He broke free from the hug and kissed her on the forehead. "I gotta go to work. I'll be back soon."
He walked to the doorway when he heard the voice of Jara."Gerard, remember when you asked if I was looking forward to work and I said no? Well, I lied. I love you."
"I love you too, sugar."He replied, tears filling his eyes. "I'll see you tonight."
He left the house and ventured to the city, this time alone.
