Dawn To Dusk, chapter 2
"I have a feeling . . . something bad will happen, to you."Gerard finished.
"Oh, come on, I'll be fine, nothing will happen okay?"Jara told him feeling confident.
"But baby, I don't want anything to happen to you. If something were to happen, I don't know what I'd do with myself.I just. . ."Gerard tried to finish but became upset."I just, I just don't know what I'd do."
"Come on, you know me. You have to trust me, I can handle myself and nothing will happen. I promise,"Jara said trying to comfort her boyfriend. She was beginning to feel a little uncomfortable since nearly all of Gerard's hunches came true.
"Promise?"Gerard sniffled.
"I promise."
They two were ready to go and left for big New York City. Tonight, the pair snuck around corners quietly on top of rooftops, observing the movement of the city. Jumping from one edge of a building to the next, they made their ways quite fast through the vast dark city. They heard something interesting and listened. They stood behind an airconditioning vent on the top of the roof and listened carfully. Jara peeked her head slowly around the corner of it and peered down at where the noise was coming from.
BANG!!!
"Huhhhh!"Jara gasped."NO!"she shouted.
Gerard grabbed both her sides and brought her up close to him behind the vent. He gripped her mouth shut with his hands. He brought her down to the ground and sat against the air vent.
"Hey! Who's up there? Who is it?"the voice of the man that Jara had seen yelled."I know someone's there!" He fired his gun once more into the air. Gerard had taken his hand off the shushed girl and once she heard the shot again, she screamed in shock. She quickly covered her mouth, amazed at the way she had just given her and her partner's hiding place away. Gerard got up like lighnting had struck him and grabbed Jara's hand and clenched it tight, running as fast as he could go with her right behind. They jumped off the edge of the building and onto the other across from them, right above where the man who had fired the gun was.
He fired into the air trying to shoot the couple.
"Shit,"the man said. He entered the building Gerard and Jara had leaped onto and climbed up the stairs.
Jara looked down below at the dead body lying in the street surrounded by blood. She had witnessed the killing of a man that had somehow made her feel different from any other death she'd seen in her lifetime. For some reason, this death touched her heart, where not many reached.
Gerard was still running away from the man with the gun, thinking Jara was right behind him. He leapt to the other building edge before realizing Jara was still on the other side.
"Jara!!!!"he screamed."Jara!!!" Jara still kept looking down to the ground where the body lie.
Just then, the man with the gun opened the door that led to the roof. Jara was trapped in.
"Jara!!!"Gerard said louder before the man looked his way and he ducked down and slumped against the ledge wall. He sat there, his knees to his forehead and cried. Jara looked up from the street and saw the man with the gun pointing at her.
"Why?Why?Why?"Gerard kept asking himself in a whining sad, crying voice. His heart was pouncing and beating wildly. His breath a constant wheezing, in and out. His breathing was heavy and not very quiet.
BANG!!!
