Dawn To Dusk, chapter 7

After lying there and pondering his thoughts, Gerard became even more confused than before. What was it that he had done to Jara to piss her off so much? What could he do to make her feel any better? Was this all just a game Jara was pulling to get into his head? After a while, he became very worried and concerned.
"Screw it."
Gerard wandered about the house, going into the kitchen to make a sandwich. He pulled out the turkey and ham and set it on the counter. He went over to the medicine cabinet and took out a pill bottle full of 100 mg capsules. He poured out some of the contents, only to find 5 or 6.
"That's strange," he said, looking into the bottle while shaking up and down to try and see if there were any remaining pills not spilled out yet. His eyes were swinched and forehead wrinkled, obviously in a thinking state. He swallowed the capsule with a swish of water, and down the hatch.
Gerard just shook his head slightly and returned back to the counter where the food was laid out. The two pieces of bread lay flat on a blue ceramic plate. Gerard slid the silverware drawer open and looked through it.
He took out a butter knife and slid it shut. Gerard stopped. He turned back around and reopened the silverware drawer once again. He re-checked what he had overlooked the first time. He saw that one of the knives in the drawer was missing. Only then had it occured to him that he hadn't seen Jara in about an hour, after she had walked out on him and began to cry.
Clang! the drop of the metal butterknife hit the floor.
Gerard quickly began to search each room. He walked quietly about, trying to stay calm, knowing that Jara was somewhere in the house, but not yet found. He stopped and listened. He heard the whimper of a sad, sad girl. He began to cry himself, knowing that Jara had a knife in her hands and that anything to get her upset could make her do something extremely stupid. He went into the library where he saw a chair leading to an airconditioning vent. There were piles of knocked over books and ripped up papers. The room looked as if it had been through World War II. Everything was ruined. There were overturned books and horrible notes written on the walls in black marker. He noticed the vent was hanging on one nail and saw the movement of Jara.
"Jara?"Gerard called. He heard the sniffles of the crying girl.
"Ha? Go away."
"Jara. Please, just come out."
"No. Go away. I don't want to see anyone."Jara said, becoming defensive.
"Ok," Gerard said, starting to back away, with fear that Jara might do something she'd regret later."I'll leave. But, please, promise me. Promise me . . . . .you won't do anything stupid." he gulped.
There was silence.
"Jara? Are you there?"Gerard asked worried. "Jara?"
Still, there continued to be silence.
"Jara!"
Gerard jumped onto the chair and stuck his head inside the vent and saw Jara lying, still, not moving.
"Jara!!!!!"he shrieked.
Swiftly, he pulled Jara out of the vent as quickly as possible. He set her down on the plush red sofa covered with books. He threw the books to the floor and looked at Jara carefully. Her arm was covered in blood. He reached into his pocket and fished out his cell phone. He quickly dialed '911' and got ahold of the operator.
He put his hand to Jara's pale snow white face. She felt ice cold. Gerard became drenched in a cool sweat.
"Yes, operator. I have an emergency. Yes, it's urgent. Please, I have my girlfriend here, and, well, she's bleeding pretty badlly. No! On her wrist. Yes. Yes, I would like an ambulance!" Gerard started to become impatient. "Well get here as soon as you can!" He hung up. He lifted Jara up with all his mite and brought her to the front of the house and sat down on a nearby chair with her in his lap. He took a towel and tried to clean up all the blood on her arm. The blood just kept pouring out though. . . .
