An Ex-Girlfriend's Revenge, chapter 13
Jana could sense something was very wrong as she walked through the cold, crisp air, down the alley, and around the corner to the wherehouse. She wondered if she should have grabbed Billie's '88 magnum out of the drawer before she left, just in case. She knew if he had any say in what was going on, he would have let her know what had happened. Who was the voice on the phone? What did they want with Billie? Or her? Would they harm any of them? Or her? These were the thoughts running through Jana's mind as she approached the big black door. It was unlocked, so she swung it open and stepped inside.
"Hello?" Jana called, but nobody answered. She jumped when she the big black door swung shut by itself. She saw a small light at the other end of the room on the lower level, so she walked down the creaky wooden stairs. She saw a figure at the end of the room and ran towards it. "Billie!" she whispered and took the tape off of his mouth. "Who did this to you? Where are the kids?" But Billie didn't answer. He just looked around nervously and shook his head. "What's wrong?"
"He won't talk." Jana whipped around to find nobody there. She looked around and saw a vague shadow in the darkness. She stood frozen. The shadow slowly walked out of the darkness and pointed a gun at her.
"Kara?" Jana wrinkled her eyebrows when she saw who it was. "It was you on the phone? You were behind all of this?"
"Of course I was... With some help." She turned around and out of the shadows where she was standing came... Jimmy?
"Jimmy? You're in on this too? Why?"
"Please. Kidnaping Kara's ex, who cheated on her, to get rid of him? I wouldn't miss it for the world. You were so clueless."
"So, you just used me to get to Billie?"
"Sorry, Jana. I didn't want to, but I had to do it."
"Why did you want my kids? Where are they?"
"They're fine. I just wanted you to feel the pain I felt. You stole Billie from me, and now I'm taking it back... Literally."
"Okay, you got your sick joke. Now let them all go."
"It's not that simple Jana. You stole my boyfriend, humiliated me, married him, and had his kids. There's lots of payback I need to take care of."
"What do you want?" Jana asked, growing angry.
"I want you to divorce Billie and leave us all alone."
"No. Besides, Billie would never marry you anyways."
"Oh, really? Even after he already agreed?" Jana turned to Billie with a confused look. "That's right. Your husband agreed to leave you for me. How does it feel?"
Jana just looked at Billie with hurt in her eyes.
"I had to, Jana. They were going to hurt you."
"I'd rather die being married to you than live the way she's telling me."
"Well, he already agreed. So, you can just walk right out of here."
"What about my kids?" Kara smiled at Billie and Jana looked at him.
"I'm sorry Jana. I told her I'd get us custody."
"No." Jana told him harshly. "I won't let her do this to us."
"What are you going to do? Shoot me? Oh, right... I have the gun." She and Jimmy both laughed at her dumb joke.
"Wait." They turned to Jana. "What about Jimmy?" She asked Kara.
"We made an agreement. When I told Jimmy I wanted to get back together with him, it was as long as he helped me get Billie." Jana shook her head. Just then there was a thump upstairs. "Go check it out." Kara told Jimmy and he ran off and climbed up the stairs into the darkness. In a few seconds, they heard a gunshot and somebody falling to the ground... But Kara was holding the gun. "Don't move." Kara told Jana and walked slowly towards the stairs. "Who the hell are you?" Jana could hear faintly.
"I'm here to get Billie and Jana."
"Put the gun down."
"You first."
"I'll take you to them." Jana waited as Kara walked back with the shadow. When they walked into the light, Jana saw... Ashlyn.
"Ashlyn, what are you doing here?" Jana asked.
"I knew it was trouble when you said you were going to an abandoned wherehouse." In Ashlyn's hand was Billie's '88 magnum.
"I told you to come alone." Kara hissed.
"I didn't know she was coming."
"Who the hell are you anyways?" Kara asked Ashlyn.
"Ashlyn is the mother of Billie's daughter. About 9 years ago, they had a one night stand and Ashlyn became pregnant." Jana explained.
"Jana." Billie whispered. Jana turned towards him.
"What?" He shook his head with fear in his eyes.
"Wait. What year did you sleep with her in, Billie?" He looked down.
"1994." Billie mumbled.
"What?" Kara asked.
"1994." He repeated. She pointed the gun at him.
"I should shoot you right now, you fucking bastard."
"Does somebody want to fill me in on what's going on?" Jana asked.
"You slept with her when we were going out?" Kara asked Billie, ignoring Jana.
"It was after one of our shows and I was wasted." Jana discovered this whole sleeping with someone when he was drunk thing was becoming a habit. "Kara, I'm the one who left you. Let Jana go."
"Fine, but you're never leaving this wherehouse alive." Billie turned to Jana.
"The kids are in the first room closest to the door upstairs. I want you to take them and go to the car." Jana shook her head as tears filled her eyes.
"I'm not leaving you."
"Jana, I'll be okay, just go. You have to get out of here."
"I'll protect him." Ashlyn whispered.
"I love you." Jana told him.
"I love you, too." Kara put the gun to his head as Jana ran out of sight and up the creaky stairs. She walked into a dark room upstairs and gathered all her kids. She stepped over Jimmy as she walked out the door. She took the kids to her car and put them inside as she dialed 911. After she hung up, she heard a loud gunshot from inside the wherehouse. She stood frozen and then saw Kara running out. She bolted towards the building as fast as she could as the sirens in the distance got louder and louder...
