An Ex-Girlfriend's Revenge, chapter 2

"Ow!"

"Jamie! Don't pinch your sister!"

"Which one?" he mumbled under his breath.

"Just don't pinch people." I was juggling the baby and the frying pan while trying to help the needs of the rest of my kids. This was a normal morning for us.

I thought about the diverse personalities of all four of my kids. Allaina, my youngest, was one year old and already Billie and I knew she would always be the centre of attention. She had to be held every minute she was awake.

Aeryelle was 3 and she had the biggest imagination I had ever seen. Always making up stories and inviting imaginary friends over for tea.

Madalen, who was 5, was the oldest of Billie's kids and ran the house next to me and Billie. She was very smart and always knew what to say.

Then there was Jamie. I knew he had the potential to be great but he never let his personality show. He didn't talk much...except around Tre. When he sees his dad, he'll love to talk about anything. I guess that's when he's happiest.

I snapped out of thought when I heard Madalen and Jamie bickering. "I do not boss everyone around at school!"

"Do to!"

"Do not!"

Do to!"

"Do not!"

"Guys stop!" I was getting a migraine from all of this fighting. Billie just looked up from his coffee cup and rolled his eyes.

"Do to!"

"Do not!"

"Billie!" I asked for help.

"Cut it out!" They stopped immediately.

"Thank you." I heaved a sigh of relief. The kitchen was pretty quiet for the next 20 minutes, until Billie announced it was time for school.

"I call shot gun!" Jamie called running towards the door.

"You sat up front yesterday."

"That's because I'm old enough." Jamie called and Madalen raced out the door. I rolled my eyes and rested my head on Billie's shoulder.

"What will I ever do without you?" I asked.

"Let's hope we'll never have to find out." Billie answered. I smiled, kissed him, and he walked out the door, leaving me in peace with Allaina, Aeryelle, and her 7 imaginary friends...at least it was quieter than before.

*After school*

"Mommy, mommy, guess what!?" Jamie called running through the door.

"What?" I asked, holding Allaina, who just woke up from her nap.

"I got a puppy and it's all mine."

"You did?" I asked, shocked.

"Yeah." Madalen sighed, walking into the room. She was jealous. Just then, a little pug waddled into the living room. I stood up and walked over to Billie.

"We never agreed on this." I whispered to him, a little upset.

"Well, I thought he needed a friend."

"And what happens when he doesn't have that friend anymore."

"Well, I hope to establish a better relationship with him by then."

"You and your brilliant plans." I said, rolling my eyes.

"Mommy, can we go show daddy?" I looked at Billie.

"I don't care. Go ahead."

Jamie and I got in the car and drove to Tre's with the little pug on his lap. I walked into the house and found Tre in the living room.

"Your son wanted to see you." I announced as I walked in. Tre turned around and smiled as Jamie ran in.

"Daddy, guess what?" he asked excitedly.

"What?" Tre said, with as much enthusiasm.

"I got a puppy!"

"You did?" Tre raised his eye brows and shot me a questioning look.

"Billie's idea. He thought it would be good for him." Tre nodded and Jamie picked up the puppy. Tre smiled and pet the dog.

"Can I talk to your mom for a minute." Jamie nodded and left the room. Tre turned to me. "So are you doing okay? You look exhausted."

"I am...but I'm okay."

"If you want I could take him for a few days...or a week."

"You know. I think he'd like that. It would be good for him to get away from the girls for a while. But don't be surprised if he asks you about...us."

"What do you mean?"

"Well, this morning, very early I might add, he asked me why he and I didn't live with you. He's crazy about you Tre."

"What did you say to him?"

"I told him that it was complicated and that I didn't love you like you loved Reeses or I loved Billie...he was a little disappointed."

"You know, we'll have to tell him some day."

"Yeah." I turned to see him playing with the little pug. "But he's not ready yet."
