An Ex-Girlfriend's Revenge, chapter 7

"Mommy, is daddy coming home soon?" Madalen asked Jana. Jana couldn't tell her five year old the truth, so she just shook her head. "Why?"

"Mommy and daddy are taking a little vacation apart from eachother."

"When will he be home?" Jana sighed.

"I don't know honey." With that, Madalen walked away. Jana thought maybe Reeses was right. Maybe she should call Billie. So, she picked up the phone and dialed her home phone number.

"Hello?" Billie answered, frantically.

"It's me."

"Jana, thank goodness! I-"

"I don't want to talk about this on the phone. I'm ready to talk, so if you're ready to tell me the truth and not a load of shit, I'll be at my mom's house." She put down the phone and sighed.

*The Next Day*

Jana's mother was at work and Jana was wondering if Billie would ever come. She didn't care...if he didn't come, he was cheating for sure. Just then there was a knock on the front door. Jana took a deep breath and opened it. Billie was standing on the other side with a relieved look. Tears filled Jana's eyes. As soon as she saw him, she had the image of him and that woman in Boston. She slapped him across the face. "How could you?" Billie put his hand to his cheek while he recovered from the shock. He looked into her eyes.

"Jana, you don't understand. I wasn't cheating on you."

"Billie, don't lie to me. I saw you with that woman." Her eyes shot to the floor. She couldn't look into his any longer.

"That's because she has my daughter."

"I don't care if she-" Her eyes shot up "-WHAT?!"

"Jana calm down. I'll tell you the story..." He took a moment and mustered up the courage to tell her the story. "A few years ago, before we met, our band was playing at the Gilman. After the show, I had a little too much to drink, and I met a woman. It was kind of a one night stand. We were at a hotel and the next moring when I woke up, she was gone. About a year or two ago, she called me and told me I had a daughter from that one night stand. Her name's MyKayla and she's nine years old. I'm sorry I didn't tell you sooner, but I love you so much and I just didn't want you to get hurt or leave like she did." She slapped him across the face again.

"Well, how do you think I feel now? I am hurt. You don't know how much you scared me. I gave up on you...forever, because I thought that you had given up on me." He looked into her eyes and touched her arm. "Don't." She pulled her arm away. "I'm not ready for that yet." Her eyes were filled with tears.

Jamie walked into the room. "Mommy, what's wrong?" He noticed the tears streaming down her face.

"Nothing." She quickly wiped them away.

"Yeah." Billie slid behind her and wrapped his arms around her. "Everything's fine." They both forced a smile even though they couldn't feel further apart.
