"This is my stop.", chapter 1

Cleo shivered as she walked through the large gates of Pinole High, and pulled her coat tighter around her, even though it wasn't that cold. Being new was always a scary experience, but she had a funny feeling this place would be worse. Here and there new heads turned and stared at her with a disgusted kind of expression on their faces. Hatred. Cleo had no liking for this place at all. The bell rang suddenly, a horrible shrill sound that made the 17 year old groan. Reluctantly, she looked at her timetable, and groaned again. Maths...

Cleo hurriedly took the black table in the corner, covering her face with her dark auburn locks. Other students filed in, laughing and talking - not noticing her at all. Score. Then she heard footsteps coming quickly towards her desk. Fuck. So close to invisibility!

"Hey, you're in my seat, dumb... Oh," he said, as she raised her head to look deep into the boys emerald green eyes. "Erm..." the boy stuttered, not knowing what to say next. His messy blonde hair obviously hadn't been brushed, but to Cleo, it seemed... Great...

"I'll move," Cleo said, annoyed, before the boy could speak. She took her unopened bag over to the other corner, the only free seat left. Sighing, she took out her books, and stole a quick glance at him. He was looking straight at her. Surprised, she immediately looked away. He looked like the usual school bully... Didn't he?

"Hey, wait up!" a voice called from behind Cleo as she walked away from the school building. She sighed, rolled her eyes, and turned around to face the guy she'd met in maths. "You're leaving a bit early, aren't you?" he said, staring into Cleo's eyes like a puppy. Cleo shrugged, and turned to leave, but he grabbed her arm. "Can I walk you home?" Cleo was taken aback. This guy was obviously one of the most popular kids in school, and he was asking her to walk her home? This was weird... She nodded slightly, and they began walking.

"I'm Billie Joe by the way," he said sheepishly.
"Cleo," she answered quietly.
"You like music?"
"It's my life."
"Punk?"
"Best in the world."

Billie grinned, his eyes shining. He took a cap from his bag, and put it on backwards, hiding the messiness of his hair. Pure punk. Cleo smiled to herself. He seemed like the type of guy she could get along with, or maybe more...

"This is my stop," Cleo said suddenly, stopping outside a house which looked like it had been bombed by some kind of mafia. Billie couldn't disguise his surprise very well. He looked into Cleo's eyes again and without warning, kissed her. She was so shocked she couldn't stop it at first, but then she pulled away and slapped him. Hard.

"What the fuck did you do that for?" she said, still shocked at what had just happened. "Are you crazy?" Billie was silent, looking down at the pavement. "So you just wanted a shag after school. That's why you walked me home." Billie shook his head, looking up at her, but Cleo didn't believe him. She just looked at him, disgusted, and ran into her house, making sure to hide the tear that rolled silently down her cheek.
